Great training experience at Hawaii Judo Academy. The staff were professional, caring, & friendly. The students reflect the friendly vibes of the coaches. Definitely a family oriented academy. They offer the best deals on the island.Since my kids (9, 7, & 5) started training at Hawaii Judo Academy, they’ve gained a lot self confidence and most importantly respect and discipline were instilled in them.I HIGHLY recommend Hawaii Judo Academy to anyone that’s looking to learn self defense, or just something recreational. Taylor (owner) Joel, Manny, and Chris (Professors) were extremely knowledgeable with great techniques and flawless execution of instructions. My family loves this academy. Mahalo!

Absolutely love Judo Accademy! My kids enjoy the challenges, and the encouraging atmosphere. They have a gentle way with the kids, while still remaining structured. We’ve been coming for years, and I don’t think that’ll change.

This place is a family that has no ego, tons of trust, and improvement in combat that you’ll keep for the rest of your life. These classes teach patience and deadly skills that becomes art. Everyone here pushes you to greatness, great mentors , and you get your money’s worth in training. It’s no mcdojo kids will throw you like you owe them money and you’ll always improve here. The journey you take here will be something you will honor and it’ll bring a smile to your face. Come become a martial artist and apart of a family that uplifts each other in combat and life values; that’ll make you a better person on the mat and a beautiful soul on the street.

Brought my son here just to learn the basics of what Judo entails...what we got was a lot more. Not only does Hawaii Judo Academy provide the basic fundamentals, but also provides all the necessary techniques to become successful in randori and in competition. Sensei Taylor provides the reasoning behind each movement so that no motion is wasted and that each technique is used to its maximum. He will breakdown each move and apply or compare it to something in the real world so that even a novice can understand why its being taught. Here you will Practice, Practice, Practice so that it becomes muscle memory. Please be conscious that this is a competitive Academy and the practices are ran at a high level but will only make the judoka better. You will learn all facets of judo, from standing techniques (Tachi Waza) to throwing techniques (Nage Waza), and all the way down to the ground game (Katame Waza). But there are many more techniques you will learn besides those Ive just mentioned. All the instructors, Aryn and Joel, along with Taylor are very knowledgeable in the art of Judo.On a side note, Hawaii Judo Academy offers Jiu-Jitsu and Wrestling as well which makes this place well rounded if youre looking to improve on all facets of your game. Plus, all classes are at a reasonable price.I highly recommend this place.

Hawaii Judo Academy is an amazing organization. Sensei Taylor, Sensei Joel, Sensei Kori, and all the great people there have welcomed us and have been thoughtful and genuine every step of the way. We are happy to know that our children are being taught by people who are not only shaping their experience of the amazing art of Judo but also teaching them discipline and character.

Our family loves Hawaii Judo academy! Our two kids, ages 9 & 7, started with HJA at the end of February 2021 and have learned so much since then. They received a free class with sensei Joel (who is super nice and does so well with kids) and the intro class was really great. They start off with conditioning and strengthening and learning to fall correctly, which is great so the kids don’t get hurt in the upper classes. My son didn’t enjoy the conditioning work at first but he pushed through and has gotten faster, stronger, and increased his endurance. They love going to judo and all the senseis are so nice and patient but also teach well and keep the kids focused and in line. Really recommend them!

Our two kids (ages 5 and 9) have been taking classes at Hawaii Judo Academy for 5 months and have learned so much & gotten physically stronger. Sensei are positive and encouraging, yet firm which teaches kids discipline. They keep the Tiny Tots, Intro and Beginner classes fun by playing games that require kids to demonstrate the skills learned. Love that they offer separate classes for kids at different levels, so they get personalized attention that is tailored to their level. Open air facility; lots of parking for classes on weekdays after 4:30 and weekends; Sensei know kids names. Would DEFINITELY RECOMMEND HJA to families.

Instructors are very good with my 3, almost 4 year old son. For a boy who is shy at first the classes are very welcoming and by the end of class he is all smiles. He is getting strong and at the same time learning how to pay attention. Location is great as there is ample parking and great access to on and off the freeway.

I love it here! My daughter trains here and it has helped her a great deal with her overall confidence. The instructors are amazing and really know how to deal with the children of various ages. In general, I’m a firm believer that martial arts is great for kids but HJA really takes it up a notch by providing great instruction! Highly recommend

My child has been taking judo at Hawaii Judo Academy from age five and is now nine years old. From day one it has been a great experience for the entire family. Each sensei is knowledgeable, caring, and actively attentive to every childs individual skills and needs to achieve their best. We are so grateful for everything HJA has done to help instill in our child increasing confidence, drive, fitness, discipline, and a strong love for judo.

Our daughter absolutely loves it here! Every week she looks forward to going to Judo class. It has only been 2 months since she started and within the 1st few weeks we noticed that it was building her core strength, which has made leaps and bounds in helping her with her gymnastics and other activities shes involved in. The instructors are extremely helpful, patient, and friendly which makes the experience very welcoming and a great environment to learn.

I initially wanted to sign my 7 year old daughter up for Judo for years now but had always put it off. Found Hawaii Judo Academy on yelp and saw their amazing reviews. My daughter ended up not wanting to join so I signed up my 3 year old son instead a couple of weeks ago and he absolutely loves it. Everyday since he started he asks me when he’s going to judo. As the 2-3 weeks passed and my daughter got to watch her brother during his classes, she got interested. I contacted Joel and he set up a free private lesson for her (he did this with my son as well). Now both my kids take classes at HJA. Everyone is so nice and welcoming and the facility is very clean.

Hawaii judo academy was my first time trying a Jiu jitsu class with professor Chris. I absolutely love it here. It’s not too serious, but everyone here is awesome and welcoming and you always leave sweating! I’ve been coming here for about a year now and I’ve tried other places but nowhere is quite like this one! Everyone is encouraged to compete but it’s definitely not required but everyone is very supportive and understanding.

I dropped in for an adult judo class while vacationing and got a great workout. Sensei Takata gave insight into a very useful series of techniques after a brief warmup and then we did randori for the last 30 minutes. Will stop by again if Im back in the area.

The highest level Judo to be found in Hawaii, as well as a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu curriculum taught by active competitors of world class lineage. The students and families of HJA always make everyone feel welcome, and is as much an ohana as an academy can get. Whether you are looking to get your kids involved, or youre looking to step on the mats yourself, this in the place to go in south central Oahu
