I have been at West Wind Schools since I was 6, and am now 20 years old. Growing up with West Wind taught me self defense skills, as well as self discipline. Martial arts has become a huge passion of mine because of the great teaching at West Wind. The 1 on 1 teaching style allows for quick improvement of skill as well as a strong bond between teacher and student. The group classes also allow you to socialize with other students. This past week I was able to earn my 5th degree black belt all thanks to the help of Mr. Shah.Back when I was 15, Mr. Shah helped my earn my 1st degree black belt. The dojo is in a great location on Park Street, and has a large and committed teaching staff.Whether you are looking to learn self defense, a new martial art, or just a fun workout, come check out West Wind Schools! It is great for kids, as well as adults.

Overall its a very good school. I have been going for about 2 years now and I will continue to attend. Since then, I have gained more confidence, integrity, and strength. Not only is the curriculum very good, but the teachers are FANTASTIC!

The school seems to put a lot effort in getting the space expanded these days, as they are getting quite popular... Not without reason though - teachers seem nice and my kids enjoy the classes.I just wish that more attention is given to the cleanliness of mats ( hence 4 stars rating) as kids get pretty nasty looking feet after training :SNot just the visible dirt, but the nasty fungal and bacterial could be lurking from that type of attitude. Some parents even walk with shoes over already messed up mats/hardwood floor ...Inmho the school should impose more stricter hygene rules at dojo... Other than that, the place provides a great team spirit and confidence building skills.

A few years back an instructor at this school was not happy with our daughters attention and performance and took matters into his own hands. He took her to a back room and used a stretching device to punish her. She had to go to doctor and receive counseling for months. The point is watch your children at all times. Ask questions. Why is my child crying. What are those bruises. Be involved.

I am giving 1-star not because I was an adult student of WWS or trained under their dojo. My issue stems from an altercation I had with a member or booster of the Alameda dojo. I dropped off a young woman riding in my car on the 2000s block of Lincoln Ave that resulted in an Asian man walking a toy dog, who challenged me to a fight. The back story is it happened around 11:45p on a Friday. He said, I was an a-hole for not pulling up further into a driveway and blocking his path. I responded, Im dropping off a young lady from work. Then other pedestrians chimed in yelling, which instigated the situation. The guy barraged me with more profanities. Then I said, You look real tough with that dog! Then he proceeded to open up my passenger side door and left it open and kept challenging me to come out and fight while there was another passenger in the back seat. This incident was dangerous and threatening. Given that mental illness is at a peak now in the US, I believe he was a WWS student as he was wearing your dojos t-shirt. I want him reprimanded and for him to apologize for his misdeeds because his actions reflect badly on WWS. Lastly, is WWS philosophy to train students to seek a violent outcome instead of using martial arts for self-defense? How does WWS handle rogue or problem students?
