Shame. A great music program, with the majority of the student body being fantastic students, unfortunately at a place where administration does nothing to discipline the unruly students, who then basically run the place without any consequence. Plenty of keep-face to cover up major issues that need addressing. The attitude seemed to be sacrifice the many for the few, and the students who were trying had to suffer unnecessarily, as their spirits really tanked when nothing of consequence happened to the constant troublemakers. No boundaries or structure lead to some pretty harsh classroom environments. It was unbelievable how poorly some of the 8th grade students treated their teachers!

I would not suggest this school, mainly because the administration has ultimate authority over the teachers and students. The relationship between many students and teachers couldnt be more toxic, even though I had relatively good relationships with my teachers and the counselor only makes the students relationships worse with their teachers and classmates. One of the few good aspects of this school is the music program. Coming from a student I would not recommend this school unless you like dealing with people who pee all over the bathroom walls floors and sinks.

I honestly really like this school. Ive only gone here for a few months so far, but I really enjoy it. I learn new things. To you Joseph Green I say thats rich coming from you. You do not get bullied in fact quite the opposite. I feel as though you bully me EVERY DAY! I think the school does a good job handling problems in the school and on the bus. I really enjoy going to this school and it improves keeps improving. Even though the school does not have a gym, they are working on that problem right now. This school is not perfect, but not every school is. I recommend you sending your kids to this school. The teachers are all very nice and do their best to teach and discipline the classroom.

Great School. I love the size. My granddaughter has had a total turn around with her interest in school. Shes doing great because she gets better interaction and classroom experience. One change that could improve the school is offering more choices in respect to elective subjects.

I came here thinking it would be a great school expecting a new gym but when I got there the gym wasn’t even started. Plus the teachers suck except for the eight grade math teacher. They can’t even keep a LA teacher for more than a year and the teachers have to share classroom, do yourself a favor, and don’t ever come here.

Personal opinion here, this school isnt going to be the best for you if you like giving people high fives or bringing Hot Cheetos to school, but its perfect for you if you like vaping in the bathrooms and classrooms. 8th grade year, we had five language arts teachers, and our first one was creepy with some of his female students, which was extremely unsettling. I will say that the 8th grade staff were all very sweet and funny, and so was our language arts teacher for the rest of the year after the fourth one had to quit because of a family emergency, but other than that the school kind of wasnt the best. The students there (with a few exceptions) did not treat each other or the teachers very well. The second half of the building wasnt finished during my 8th grade year, so we never got to see the gym and had to do PE on the concrete, causing many kids in my class to injure themselves during activities, and the 6th and 7th grade teachers had to share classrooms with the 8th grade teachers and students because the building wasnt ready. The only thing I really liked about the school was the music program, but Im not sure if thats going to be there anymore. Overall, I would not recommend this school to anybody; the website might make it seem like an amazing school, but the truth isnt all that pretty.

I have 2 kids who have both attended 21st Century Academy. I have been extremely satisfied with the education they have both received at the school. My son attended from 6th through 8th grade and I feel that he would not have been socially accepted in a bigger middle school. He did very well both academically and socially at twentyfirst century. He was very prepared to attend high school when he left the school. My daughter started last year in 5th grade. She was too grave behind in reading when she started. After one year at the school, she is reading at grade level. Her previous elementary school had been working with her for 4 years and could not get her to grade level. In addition to excelling academically, she also is doing well socially.I cannot recommend 21st Century Academy more highly.

This school is very disorganized. Safety is a concern. The bullying isnt addressed. The Westside bus driver is irresponsible and often leaves children unattended. If you have a child who has an IEP, 504 etc please do not waste yours or your childs time. We gave this school 2 years and they gave us excuses and refusal to follow plans for our child with disabilities. The ONLY thing this school has going for them is the music program.

Both my boys attend and they love their school. When there has been evidence of bullying, Mrs. Tarango has addressed it quickly, and directly. If she doesnt know about it, she cant address it. I live on the Westside of the city and the drive each day was a definite hardship for our family, and the half of the school that lives west of the river. What does the school do to address this issue when I brought it up? They agreed, wholeheartedly, to help the parent led grass roots effort to get a bus for Westside kids. The first year an APS charter school gets a bus, they have to pay for it themselves out of their operational budget. It is not cheap ($28,000-37,000). Our school just purchased and is inhabiting our permanent location in the great Cutler district by GreenJeans and the move wasnt cheap. In spite of this, the school agreed to pay for the bus to help the Westside families, and to offer a much needed service for future students as the Westside does not have enough middle or high schools to support the large number of families that live there. I brought up the issue in September 2017 (first week) and by November, our school had contracted for the bus and kids were on it an riding it since then. That shows a commitment to the kids and families of the school. The education of the children is done in such a way that my children feel supported and cared for. They love their teachers, in spite of saying some are stricter than others. The small class size is one of the best features of the school and my children are both on IEPs and have received everything they need to succeed. Their special ed. department is experienced and talented and they are dedicated to their special ed kids. The ability to check and keep up with your childrens grades on the PlusPortals website is great. Their use of Google classroom and Tapestry is helpful to assure you know what is going on in the classroom. If their are any problems with teachers, they video monitor them to assist with improving the quality of the instruction and assure that the if their are kids with behavior challenges, he teachers are assisted with the best strategies to help these children succeed too. I HIGHLY recommend sending your kids to this school.

We love this school. Our twin girls have thrived in this nurturing environment and small classroom size. The teachers work as a team and the Out of School Instruction (OSIs) are a wonderful practical application of skills taught in the classroom. I highly recommend this school. Nicole Baca, if you hated this school so much why did you return in your 8th grade year? It sounds like maybe you didnt like it, but your parents must have! Maybe there is a reason for that! Good luck in high school....

This a horrible school they let there teacher treat the kids like dog. My daughter has only been going there for a few month and she has seen more bullying by student and teachers then she has ever seen in all her achool years. She has seen a student get jumped by two girls the school bus and the two girls are still riding the bus. A boy said that he was going to kill himself and shoot up the school and he is still attending school there and when one of the students told the teacher what the boy had said the teacher told that student to shut up and sit down. WOW that is all I have to say is WOW

My children have been attending this school for the past 3 years. I know the staff. I have never regretted the decision to send my children to this school.I would like to address a previous post submitted by Mr. Kubs. First, my youngest has Ms. Syed (2016-2017) as a teacher and she does not give 50% for work that has not been completed/turned in. How do I know this, because my son just received a 0 for his reader responses for his journal assignment.Mr. Kubs, you seem rather flattered that you can just pick up a phone and dial the superintendents office to make a formal complaint. You seem to have a knee-jerk reaction and assumption with regards to how the staff operate. This is a good school with a great staff.I question your position regarding Mr. Moser being ...in some fit of rage... . Mr. Moser was assigned morning traffic duty. His job was to make sure students were safe exiting their vehicles. I wonder if that so-called fit of rage you mention might have been with regards to you trying to make sure you did not hit someone elses child? As for Ms. Tarango, she is the principal and she was outside doing afternoon traffic duty and you are complaining because she is putting the safety of children first versus responding to your concerns? There is a protocol that the staff has to follow. Just because you may not be privy to that protocol does not mean that she is not doing her job.Lastly, you complain about the location of the school and the traffic. Every school has traffic. It goes with the territory of having large numbers of people gathering in a central location. As for the location, no one forced you to send your child to this school. If you did not like the location, why didnt you choose a different school? This school may not be your cup of tea, but guess what, you can pull your child out and enroll them in your assigned public school or you can choose another charter school to enroll your child. School choice, that is such a lovely concept and you are really fortunate that you have that privilege.I think what saddens me the most about your post Mr. Kubs is that you start off with an assumption regarding a teacher which really is not true ... its an outright lie, but you pass it off as if it were true. Thus, I question your honesty and your entire post regarding what transpired. Not only am I saddened by your comments, I am also annoyed because I felt I had to respond to your post and I dont do reviews or social media because I have more important things to do. Please, do not disparage an individual or an institution because it somehow gives you a sense of self worth. I believe that we, as human beings, are so much better than that ugliness.

Ok so an update from my last review in Nov...2016... This school is not too great .. teachers like Ms.Syeed give 50% credit to students who dont even do thier homework, Mr Moser , the rude tough guy who decided to put his hands all over my vehicle in some fit of rage one morning during drop off is still there for NOW.. he was reported by ME to the superintendents office and I just got a call they will be suspending his license to teach soon. And as for the principal, she is a damn joke ..shes more concerned about where ppl park during afternoon pickup , then she is returning emails about Moser. So she she was also reported to superintendent office since they asked how she helped handle the situation and I told the truth ..She didnt... So save yourself the hassle and crappie location and traffic and just send your child to a school that doesnt suck.. Its my kids last year there and hes in 6th
