Mickaeden always looks forward being on a mat and how much he talks about what he learned in class. Will see him in every corner in the house practicing every moves that he learned and you can see how passionate and how eager he is to learn. Him being around this kind of environment is teaching him self defense, discipline and self control and also being around his fellow students, older brothers and sister that he looks up to is beyond a blessing ! Ive been a member of the CTA Alexandria BJJ family for over a year now. At first, I joined because I had the pleasure of attending Professor Caio Terras seminar back when I was living overseas, and I remembered how knowledgeable and detailed he was at teaching each technique. That said, I immediately decided to stay because Professor Vu and Coach Edgar not only embody the same teaching philosophy, but they also exhibit the passion and kindness that are simply contagious among all the teammates. Great school, exceptional instructors in a safe, inclusive environment. My 10 yr old daughter joined the school last year and shes a bit shy and reticent so we wanted her to try different sports to help her with her social skills. After soccer and gymnastics didnt work out, she tried martial arts (CTA Alex BJJ). I was pleasantly surprised to know that she really enjoys the class and always looks forward to it. Her skills have grown along with her self-confidence. I highly recommend the school!

Caio Terra Academy in Alexandria VA is a top flight school with excellent instruction by way of Professor Vu Tran. Professor Vu provides a safe yet realistic Brazilian Jiu-jitsu experience with plenty of available time slots throughout the week to fit most scheduling needs. The facility is very clean and is newly occupied by this amazing school. This place is the real deal!

I found this place by mistake while shopping in the plaza one evening, walked in and Professor Vu was running his class. Got the schedule and the next week it was on! I I definitely categorize this as one of the best decision Ive made! Just a game changer. BJJ will humble you and just teach a new way to look at life. I am by no means an expert in BJJ but I have had about 10-12 lessons from different gyms around the U.S. and I have only really loved two places that I visited(this being #1). Coach Vu was professional and incredibly humble in his practice. His skill level is incredible and he often points out the typical rookie mistakes I or others made to keep in mind. He was by far the most detailed in his clear explanation of whatever we were learning in the moment. From the second I walked into the gym I felt a sense of being welcomed by not only coach Vu but also by the likes of all the regulars that were there. It was incredible and I dont think I am alone when I say mma and bjj gyms can have an overarching sense of masculine ego so it was calming to not have that present at this gym! Throughout the whole session he made sure we were all performing the movements correctly and effectively. Lastly, I have to comment on coach Vus eye contact. He is present with you in the moment and cares that you are taking it all in. I urge anyone that is looking to give bjj a go to check out coach Vus gym, you will not regret it.p.s. for the first time in any bjj gym, my neck wasnt cranked and I left feeling a little sharper than when I showed up!!

Vu is an amazing Instructor! He makes you question why you’re doing each move, and not just going through the motions of jiu jitsu. I started training BJJ in England in 2009, and after a moving back to US in 2010 I was unable to train since there were no schools near wear I lived. So I drifted out of sync with my passion for Jiu Jitsu.Fast forward to 2017 a friend of mine who trained at CTA Alexandria BJJ asked if I wanted to come and check out the gym. Long story short, I have been there ever since.Between the detailed breakdown of each technique to the dedication and enthusiasm for Jiu Jitsu that Coach Vu Tran brings, there is something for all skill levels from beginner to Black Belt. The last thing I will say, is that you will come for the techniques, but will stay for the people.
