About four years ago, my younger son was excepted into the Sandburg advanced academics program. While he attended the school, a group of his peers had taken his backpack in gym class. The students were supposedly not allowed to use their lockers, as they were not dressing out. Once we had reported the backpack to the schools official, we never heard back. We switched him to Walt Whitman, and he loved his time in the school. I do not poorly rate this due to his personal experiences, but to the lack of regard from the officials. I feel that the school should be more aware of these situations. The children should feel comfortable in their own school.

I do not know what the problem is with these people who have been talking down and negative, they must had issues and are just bitter, but Carl Sandburg is a very good school. I am glad my child is a part of this community of people. God dont like ugly, grow up.

Just like any school there are pros and cons. There is a large economical divide in Carl Sandburg and the vast majority of problems stem from the children with lower income families. I do understand how that can be taxing on the staff. I can also understand that, the teachers arent supposed to be babysitters. Its incredibly difficult to teach when you have to constantly discipline your class. I will give the teachers and staff a pass for that. However, the honors and AP classes are watered down. Honors and AP classes should still be taught at a higher level. If there is a discipline problem in those classes, the teacher should be able to transfer the problem student out of his/her class. Honors and AP are for kids who really want to learn. The teacher should be able to nurture and teach without incident, currently thats just not the case.The classes are over crowded which doesnt help the students or the teachers. Fairfax county needs to straighten the situation out.My daughter actually enjoys Carl Sandburg. She says, the students are good to one another and the overall atmosphere is positive.There is a new principal this year. I hope he does a good job and I wish him well.The bottom line is if there is parental involvement and open communication with the teaching staff the school has the potential to be great.I would also ignore the majority of the negative comments made by the other posters. I think those negative comments were made by students trying to be funny and by parents who really dont care about their childs education or future.

Honestly, this school was so sexist. I was assaulted by a girl named Vanessa, and I cussed her for kicking me in my chin with her boot. And I had to go to AIA while she went to class. And she lied to Ms.Hendershot and said that I had harassed her and she provided no situation of me harassing her. The girl got no pubishment whatsoever but I did. They handled it very poorly. And honestly, the teachers were very nice, even though I failed some classes, I liked my teachers. But I was also bullied by a kid named Levin. Nobody helped me at all and I told the teacher many times. 2 stars. Wouldn’t reccomend going here.

A majority of kids here are stubborn and the staff are trying their best and they are succeeding but the sinks don’t work and the WiFi is garbage but the teachers are optimistic.
