Great place for my son. He learns discipline and respect, while having fun at the same time. Master Lockhart is wonderful with the kids.

Enrolling in martial arts classes was something that I had been interested in but, unfortunately; could not find the time. After retiring, I went about researching an appropriate facility and found that Lockharts Karate Academy met my requirements. I encouraged my wife to join me in these classes since she is only 4 11 tall and I wanted her to be able to protect herself in all scenarios.We feel very fortunate to have found this Karate studio as we have now been members for over a year now. Both Master Lockhart and his daughter Ms. Lockhart are exceptional instructors. They instill discipline, respect, and fun into their training curricula.Last week we attended our first in-house tournament and its really amazing to witness how confident the young students are. We were impressed at the progression and skill level that some of these kids exhibited.Its important to note that these classes are not just for children. In fact, I believe that this type of education is just as important as one ages since the classes provide both physical as well as mental exercise. My wife and I were both in our fifties when we began training with Master Lockhart. In the beginning we were complete beginners as we tried to maintain balance during the warm-up kicks. We are now at the orange belt level and look forward to progressing through the advanced belt levels.Lockharts Karate Academy has my highest recommendation.

I was recently looking for either martial arts classes or summer day camp activities for my son, who is almost 9, and went by to check out Lockharts Karate Academy on a recommendation of a friend. I found Master Lockhart and Miss Brittany to be great with all the kids, and the instruction is fun and well organized. The training activities they provide test the kids both mentally and physically while challenging them to remain focused and do their best. The kids think it is great!Seeing my son having so much fun while learning useful life skills is great. I recommend Lockharts Karate classes 100%, and Im planning on trying out their summer camps as well.

Since my daughter started Lockharts academy over a year ago, we have noticed a drastic improvement on her patience, manners, attentiveness, and respect. She absolutely loves going, and there is a good reason for that - all the instructors are great with kids. They arent just teaching martial arts, they are teaching very deep core values that will stay with the students for life, which is absolutely invaluable.I myself have joined the adult class, and I can honestly say it is a great exercise and learning experience that is challenging and enjoyable. The instructors all know how handle students who are all at various levels extremely well. The training and focus on each student is superb, and keeps me engaged and wanting to learn more, do better, try harder. For me, no gym or traditional sport can match the skills and experience of learning Karate from such dedicated, spirited, and talented individuals.

My son has been going to Lockharts Karate Academy for 6 years. He is now a blue belt and he is proud of his achievements. In my opinion, Dan is the best karate master that you can find. His passion for work is incredible, he does not give up and teaches same fundamentals to his students. Dan is working with our son for all these years, and we have seen phenomenal change in our son since he had joined karate. Dan makes sure kids have fun in the class but he also drills them pretty good and make them strong. Its difficult to find a talent like him. We just feel fortunate that our son goes to him and learning from the best :)

Master Lockhart and his family have helped our children thrive under their guidance. He is always kind, fun, stern and able to engage even the most unfocused child while the child still has a smile on their face. Our son worked hard to get through his belts and his younger sister is so glad she is finally old enough to start as well! On top of that, he has great fun nights for parents to get a night out sans children. Excellent, engaging classes from a caring, respected instructor. My three kids aged 11, 9 and 6 have been going to Master Lockharts karate studio for almost 2 years. It has been a wonderful experience for my kids all along. Lockharts Karate Academy in Aliso Viejo is absolutely amazing! They have become like family to many students! My daughter is now a senior in college and we have known Dan since she was in Jr high. He is a great person who teaches more than just karate. He teaches values, commitment, respect and much more to the kids that attend his studio. I have a son who just came to US and couldnt speak English. Contrary to my concern, Master Lockhart treated and taught him very well. He has something to make the class enjoyable and led the class very well. I definitely recommend this academy to other people even though we cant no longer take him to the academy because we moved far.

My grandchildren love coming to class here and respect Master Lockhardt and Ms. Brittany so much. They are strict but fair and kind. The kids learn very quickly that praise is something they must earn through trying hard and following instructions. I highly recommend this business!

The BEST extra curricular activity for your children. They will learn discipline and responsibility, core values generally not taught in the local youth sports league. We attended the free trial lesson to start at my sons request; my daughter came along to observe and immediately joined, too. My wife and I would also join if we could fit it into our schedules.

My two children (ages 6 and 9) have been going to Lockharts Karate Academy for the past 3 months with so much success. My youngest has struggles with motor planning and core strength and weve seen such great improvement in both these areas in such a short period of time. Both children have also shown vast improvement in their attention to detail and ability to focus over a longer period of time. I highly recommend.

If I could give 10* I would!I can’t say enough positive things about Master Lockhart and his daughter Brittany Lockhart’s Karate Program. For our family this is our kids after school activity right now and hopefully years to come. For a hands on mama who expects the best for my kids development, this program touches so many areas of my parenting demands as well as the brain development a child needs even if all they know how to do is write their name at age 5. Our boys are given many choices everyday and are expected to make good choices. This particular karate program however is Not A Choice for our kids, although at one time it was. And wow was that a mistake to take a 4 month break. We are back and will be going twice a week for as long as we can! There are 6 words that describe Lockhart Karate Academy to me:Focus-Look at my eyes when I’m talking to you, be present, hear what I’m saying, stop fidgeting, focus on your body not those around you. All life lessons we try to teach everyday that are touched on in this short period of time. Even if not in school yet, he is teaching the skills of not paying attention to others or their work and focus on their own. My sons kinder teacher has complimented me multiple times of this skill my son has that not many others do.Development-Through some early childhood development education classes I’ve taken, I’ve learned that every child’s brain develops differently and at different speeds. My son started kinder at age 6 because he just wasn’t ready for all the sitting and learning. I am so thankful for this karate because he had 2 years of learning and memorizing forms along with direction and placement of his body that I couldn’t even remember to help him practice! But he knew, and I knew his brain was developing these skills!Control- Along with controlling your own body there is also emotional control. We all get upset, life can be frustrating, it’s sad when we don’t win. Master Lockhart properly handles these emotions, let’s them feel, teaches how to control them and then they are able to try again! Sometimes they even win that round, and sometimes they don’t, but that’s life!Coordination- who knew squatting on your toes without hands, circling arms in opposite directions and a proper tumble could be so difficult. This helps in future sports, climbing, balance etc. My 4yr old got up on water skis by himself and I acknowledged this Karate program immediately for teaching these skills!Discipline-I get 2 hours twice a week where I get to sit and watch someone else do the disciplining and it is glorious!Fun-Even if they don’t want to leave the house to go to karate, they arrive happy, laugh during class at their sarcastic humor, and leave smiling!I could go on and on about this program and what it does for kids and even parents! Trust me there’s no other karate like this I’ve experienced a My kids are more well behaved, socialized and will be ready for whatever curve ball life throws at them. I want to thank Master Lockhart and his daughter for teaching these skills and helping me find other ways to make sure my kids are kind, safe and can have fun too in this crazy life! Both my sons have been students of Master Lockharts for many years. He is an outstanding teacher as well as a true example of honesty, integrity and optimism in their lives. We changed studios years ago because we had heard what a positive role model and teacher he was for kids and teenagers. It was the best decision we could have made for the boys technical expertise in Martial Arts but also from a male role modeling perspective as well.

All 3 of my boys attend Lockhart Karate, and we couldnt be happier. They all started when they were 3 years old and have gained so many important life skills, made great friends and had a lot of fun. I highly recommend it for kids of all ages.

Luke has been with Master Lockhart for about a year. What he has experienced there is amazing. Kids are always having fun, while learning/practicing Karate skills and discipline. Luke really likes there and had a good connection with Master and miss lockhart. During a regular 1 hr class, kids are always occupied with various activities during which they are trained to focus, respect, work together and become strong.Leaving this great place and great teachers was sad to us. Its a great and highly recommend place where you can find lots of other interesting activities and programs for your kids, for example, Friday movie nights, summer camp, etc.

We have been at Lockhart in varying capacities (training & camps) for the past 4 years for training and summer camp. We have had a great experience at this studio. The instructors are all knowledgeable, kind and have appropriate expectations of our children. Both our kids thoroughly enjoy their classes and instructors, and look forward to each session. Dan Lockhart is especially great with the kids. He knows them, understands them, and speaks with them in a way they understand. I have seen many instructors or coaches in other activities who wont let children attempt something or continue to work toward something because they think they cant do it. Master Lockhart has high expectations of these kids and encourages them to push themselves; as a result my children have gained confidence, resilience and grit. I also truly appreciate the candor of the instructors; if a child does not try or does not do something well, they dont try to make it sound pretty - they will identify if its not good - but on the other hand, if a child succeeds, tries hard, or is doing well, they will absolutely make it known. In a culture where my children get trophies just for showing up, it is a rare find to have someone identify the not-so-good and celebrate the true victories.

Dan and Brittany have an incredible dedication to their students, their community, and the martial art of soo bakh do. They conduct all their dealings with the same honor, respect, and integrity that they teach their students, and its rewarding to see the love and appreciation they receive from the families who benefit from their commitment. I can’t say enough good thing about this place. We travel twice from Irvine to send four children to learn karate. The instructors have been very serious when it comes to teaching the kids how to protect themselves. Yet, there are tremendous fun interactions to learn respect and endurance! Mr. Lockhart takes it to the next level building relationship with my children by spending time to do one on one talking with them. He is very good at asking questions and having my kids to think about their behaviors. My children have been making better choices every time they had talk with Mr. Lockhart. I deeply appreciate his coaching time and willingness to help build my childrens’ charaters. I, standing right next to them listening also gained wisdom parenting my children. Really glad we have found this place!

I am truly grateful to Master Lockhart and his entire staff. He is a phenomenal instructor and caring person. My sons entire attitude, focus and confidence have changed since starting at this studio (3 months ago). Master Lockhart really takes the time to get to know each child and their individual needs and follows through on everything. He does an amazing job at teaching the kids to evaluate themselves and share with him their thoughts on their performing---I found this to be extremely effective as I am a firm believer in teaching my son to be the judge of himself which I think is essential for independence and growth. We shopped all over the Aliso / Laguna area for a mentor for our wild boys. Although, we were not familiar with Soo Bahk Do, it was all about Master Lockhart and his ability to work with children, teach them discipline and also teach us by example how to be better parents. Master Lockhart and Ms. Lockhart are wonderful teachers. My son joined Lockhart Karate Academy when he was 3.5 years old. He is 5 now and Karate has helped my little man grow immensely. Joining this class early was one of the best decisions we took. With Master and Ms Lockhart we know that our child is in great hands. My other son will be joining Lockhart Karate Academy as soon as he turns 3.I have noticed several fake 1-star ratings in the last 2 days. Its sad that Google does not have a better handle over its review ranking algorithm and is letting crooks get away with fake ratings and reviews.

My 5 year old year-old son has been attending Lockharts Karate Academy since July of 2015, and he loves it. Master Lockhart and his staff did an amazing job of making him feel welcome right away - side note, I could not believe how fast Master Lockhart learned his name - very impressive! Before I knew it, my son was asking when his next class was. Its been wonderful to see the progress he has made, both in and out of class. Master Lockhart really is great with his students. He holds the kids accountable for their actions in a firm, yet gentle way that is age-appropriate, and he treats his students with respect (and asks the same in return, which is very important). I have seen my sons patience and focus improve so much and hes learning so many other skills that will serve him well in all areas of his life. Its a great reinforcement for all of the good behaviors we try so hard to instill in our children. I am looking forward to taking my son here for many more years - and more importantly, my son is looking forward to many more years training with Master Lockhart!

This has been the best thing for my 4.5 year old son. When he first started at 3, he was having some behavioral issues at his preschool. After 3 months of instruction with Master Lockhart, his teachers at school were amazed by his improvement in all areas of behavior. Master Lockhart teaches them respect, patience and hard work and also has a great way with the children! My son loves and respects him so much and we look forward to many more years at the Lockhart Karate Academy. Thank you Master Lockhart!!!

I greatly appreciate Master Lockhart and his diligence to the art. There are a myriad of martial art studios around, but I personally believe a studio should be chosen by the quality and the ethics of the instructor.Master Lockhart is a man who has a gift of working with children. I am 30 years old and I attend the adult class and over 50% of the adults in my class have joined the studio after seeing the growth in their children, mentally and physically. I have two children ages four and six. My four year has attended the studio for over a year and the growth in my son is astounding. My six year old has attended the studio for just over six months and she loves practicing her forms and working on counting to ten in Korean. As a parent we can only teach our kids so much, but I must say it is powerful to see Master Lockhart come along side your child to help them achieve goals as well as set goals.As an adult I find his teaching extremely valuable, the principles taught in his studio have helped me in my personal life, work life and home life. I am a results-driven person, so I greatly appreciate hard work. Lockhart’s academy is a studio where you earn each rank given. Master Lockhart does not show favoritism. Each person that walks through the door of his studio is respected and treated as an equal and this is the attitude of the staff as well.Master Lockhart is an abundantly humble leader who cares about the success of the students and their families. This man is a true leader and the leadership shows by the attitude in his staff and the humility of his students. I greatly appreciate the way he trains students into becoming teachers no matter the age. One of my first days in the class there was a young man about 10 years old, who was tasked to walk us through a couple of techniques. I was so pleased by the great level detail in this young man.
