Updated testimonial! I have been coming to MACH for 6 months now, and the words that comes to mind when I think about my experience at the Martial Arts Center for Health are WORLD CLASS. The leadership and instruction is incredible. They have built a thriving community of health-focused people of all ages. The instructors are absolutely committed to their craft and ensuring every student is tended to and given all the support they need - both in and out of the studio - to thrive. Matt & Scott have become real friends and our relationship goes far beyond the studio. These guys and the other leaders truly care about each student in a way that is special. Our family has lived in Orlando for 15 years and we just moved across the continent; the thing we will miss most is our time and community at the studio. If you have an opportunity to join this community, do not hesitate: DO IT. You will not regret it. It is worth every penny and far beyond that. Places and people like this are rare. I am grateful for my time there. The Martial Arts Center for Health is a true gem of Orlando. As a 16-year resident, I would say unequivocally this establishment is the most professional of any of health and wellness concept in all of Orlando. It is truly world class. The leadership and instructors have produced an extraordinary environment that is quite rare. They have built a community of individuals committed to healthy minds, bodies and spirits and whom honor and respect one another. The instructors are true masters of their craft. They can lead a full class where ages range from teens to those in their 80s, with participants all at varying degrees of experience, and meet each student where theyre at. This has come from thousands of hours of experience and intentional study and leadership. Above it all, they deeply care about each of their students and demonstrate that commitment in myriad of ways.

It is difficult for me to adequately describe how much of a positive impact the Martial Arts Center for Health has had on my life. About 18 months ago, I had surgery on my knee to repair a torn ACL and meniscus. I struggled with my recovery despite going to physical therapy. I found myself having great difficulty walking up and down stairs. I could not walk for fun any more and I would often be completely unable to walk without severe pain after a work shift. In January, I joined the Martial Arts Center for Health to try to get my life back. Since the first day, I have felt welcomed by both the instructors and the other students. The classes are challenging but fun and rewarding. And, this past week, I was able to climb 115 feet worth of stairs to reach the top of the Mayan temple pictured. I would never have been able to do this without the help of my instructors. I have no doubt that they will be able to help me reach any goal I set for myself!

The Martial Arts Center for Health is a welcoming place that has taught me much in the short two years I have attended so far. Through the instruction I have received, I have learned not only great exercises and self-defense techniques, but also gained much self-confidence and discipline that I have taken to other areas of my life. At work (waiting at the time of this writing), I am able to keep a focused mind and think clearly even in the midst of something like an afternoon dinner rush. I highly recommend the MACH if you are looking for a place to learn martial arts, self-cultivation skills, or anything in between.

I am writing this review to help people understand the benefits of training my mind and body at the Martial Arts Center for Health. I have had some martial arts training as a young man living in New York. I did enjoy the training but it was kinda violent. I found this school about 15 years ago and trained with my son. We went for awhile but migrated away from it. Well something drew me back to the center and im glad it did. I feel so much more confident in my physical abilities and my focus is really improving considerably. I have been playing golf for many many years in an amateur tour setting. I had an auto accident years ago and havent been winning on the tour. Well after training at the center for about three months I have won 2 tournaments in the last 3 weeks! I am starting to notice a pattern and I attribute my feelings and recent success to my training at the Martial Arts Center for Health. The environment and the trainers are awesome! Chris G.

Kids Class !!!My 9 year old son has been studying martial arts at the Martial Arts Center for Health for about 9 months. He is hooked and recently told me that he wants to “dive deep” into his martial arts training with MACH. The kids’ classes at MACH are invaluable! I particularly appreciate the mutual respect between instructors and students at MACH and also the fact that there is a strong focus on safety, education, health and self-defense without aggression. Instructors and students demonstrate respect, dignity and humility while at the same time the students gain a sense of self worth, build strength and skill and learn how to fend for themselves.Let me offer my son’s perspective in his own words: “I really like the form and how it’s connected to the body; each movement that you do is connected to the body in some different way. We learn all about the bones and the organs and we learn about muscles and the anatomy. We learn different things about breathing. Before each class we sit and breathe, then we have a warm up, we learn kicks and blocks … I’ve gotten much better reflexes for sure, because he challenges us. He would never actually hit us but with the tip of the pad, he goes for our face, and we have to block up or block down or block back because sometimes he circles around us and we have to just stay in one place. If you can’t do something at first, it’s OK, you learn. They build you up mentally and make you stronger.”When I was looking for a place for my son to study martial arts, I was particularly interested in a place where I knew he would be safe, he would be treated with kindness and respect and he would learn discipline and self-defense without being taught to be angry or aggressive. I found the place. I recommend The Martial Arts Center for Health without reservation for adults and children!

Because of the Martial Arts Center for Health and the OUTSTANDING instructors, I am physically and mentally in the best shape of my life. There are no words to truly explain the difference this place has made for me. (Ive been a student for 1-1/2 years.) I aim to attend 4-5 days a week, as it is my grounding, my stabilizer, my center peace. It is not what you think of as traditional martial arts. MACH is about flexibility, mobility, physical and mental strength, focus, movement -- a complete (and very sweaty) workout every time. The classes have plenty of variety so you never get bored. The people who attend are all shapes, sizes, and ages as well as are dealing with various emotional/physical personal challenges. For example, I have pretty severe scoliosis. I was told Id be locked up with arthritis by a medical doctor as I age. I am the farthest thing from that description! You have to stick with MACH to get all the benefits, and be committed. But, when youre hooked like I am, its guaranteed to be a wonderful part of every day.

I have been going to MACH for about 4 months. I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in 2009, and my doctors have all said I should be doing physical exercise, especially weight bearing exercise. I have never been able to stick to an exercise program in my life. Either I got bored within weeks or I would injure myself by being over enthusiastic. But I absolutely love this place! The instructors are knowledgeable, caring, and enthusiastic. The program challenges my body and my mind, and I leave every class loving it more each time. The one-on-one attention you receive from all the instructors is unprecedented, and the program is easily adapted to each participant. The studio is beautiful and welcoming, the other students are friendly and helpful, and there are so many people here who have been going for years and years. This is a testament to the success of this program and the kind and wonderful people who work here. I hope to be a member for years to come.

I learned about this wonderful place from friend of mine thats been going to this center for many years and really benefited a lot from it. I was going through a difficult time in my life and thought this might be a good place to try out. That ended up being a great decision! The atmosphere here is very friendly and welcoming. Its been great learning a different way to improve my health and with people I now call my friends. The instructors do their best to give you lots of individual attention and to put you at ease and as you learn all the variations of the martial arts they teach. Ive been here a year and a half and my body is a lot more toned, stronger and balanced. This is the best preventative care I can think of and and more than a few people here have completely healed very severe physical conditions. Im a pretty health oriented person and was amazed how much its taken that to a whole new level. The variety of what they teach is way beyond of what I expected and I love it all! I go almost daily. As an entrepreneur for over 20 years with a busy and varied schedule I like the multiple class times and feel this is the best medicine to manage stress. If youre looking for a nice addition to your life and youre considering martial arts, please give it a try! Youll be glad you did!Janet M

The community at Martial Arts Center for Health (MACH) is inspiring. There are students of all ages, walks of life, and levels of skill. The instructors are a very supportive and encouraging team. I have never once felt like Ive been talked down to or treated differently because Im not as good as others. The environment is peaceful and the positive energy envelopes anyone who enters. Every success is celebrated and other students are supportive in your quest to improve. Unlike going to a traditional gym the workouts at MACH are gentle to the body but produce amazing results including an increase in strength, balance, and concentration. If traditional gyms have not worked for you MACH may be the alternative you are looking for.

Im forever grateful for the invitation to come to the Martial Arts Center for Health. It has been a life changing experience. I just finished up 6 months of training. In this short amount of time I feel as if Im on the road of regaining control of my health, both physically and mentally. After spending many years in the gym and competing in body building, it has taken a toll on my body., causing a loss of flexibility and joint pain. But through the martial arts center for health training program, I have experienced amazing transformation. In six months, I have lost 12 lbs, regained flexibility and have energy like never before. The instructors are GREAT. They have a genuine interest in your well being and you cant help but see the passion they have for helping and serving others. They are always encouraging you to come, so that you can get the most out of the program. Im 55 year of age and would never have thought that I could get so much out of this type of training. This place is AMAZING and I look forward to experiencing the benefits that will come as I continue on this journey. Im forever grateful for my buddy JTs invite and for the encouragement and commitment of the instructors. Thank you ALL!

I would encourage anyone to become involved in the Martial Arts Center for HealthThis is an update to my previous review above. I have now been a student at the Martial Arts Center for Health for 5 years. I am a 55 year old Mental Health Counselor. Because of my training at the Martial Arts Center I am in better shape physically than I have ever been. When I started my training I was having pain in my knees. After working with the instructors for a few months the pain in my knees are gone and my legs are stronger than they have ever been. My training has also helped me to get stronger and more focused mentally and emotionally. I have been able to use these newly developed strengths to meet professional and personal goals outside of my training at the Center.

Have you ever made a decision that turned out to be one of the best things that ever happened in your life? Well in my case when I discovered the martial arts center for health in Altamonte Springs,Florida , I may well have uncovered a fountain of youth, love, and light.Since joining this illustrious organization 10 years ago,I have met the most committed and dedicated wellness martial artist instructors as well as fantastic associates including the owner Tom Curtain. I have found his leadership, instruction ,kindness and camaraderie consistent with a unique center of excellence . In addition Tom and his staff provide excellent practical guidance as we journey through life’s peaks and valleys. Each and every instructor is dedicated to the development of the total health (mind, body, spirit) and well-being of each individual. Each person is treated with such dignity and respect and a program is designed for individuality as well as for corporate success. Lessons that are learned are life long nuggets of silver and gold useful in times of calamity or calm.It is very rare to find a sense of oneness, clarity and peace of mind incorporated with ancient wisdom, contemporary science, sprinkled with love and gratitude at the same location that you are earning how to defend yourself. While the study of Kung Fu, tai chi or Qigong is valuable as an anti-aging therapy on its own, this center also specializes in helping you defend your physical immune system as well as your emotional immunity. If you are trying to build your own self confidence or confidence in human integrity ,I invite you to come in for a demonstration to see for yourself. You will be both challenged and rewarded for the input of time and energy and resources.Come in to be restored, regenerated, or reinvigorated . You will never be the same, only better. This could be one of the best decisions of your life.As a retired physician in the field of Integrative medicine and a believer in improving our energetic physiology, I can recommend no higher experience then the Martial arts Center for Health in Central Florida.

MACH is a great place to develop overall physical conditioning, balance, coordination, endurance and mental focus. The instructors meet with each student individually to determine their goals and learn about any physical limitations or conditions a student may have. MACH is a friendly, non-competitive school where the focus is directed at health. The owners, Thomas and Eva Curtin have created a beautiful space where anyone who is willing, regardless of their age or physical condition, can improve their health and have fun doing it. The roots of the martial arts traditions are respected yet facilitated for the 21st century. As an older student (age 57) who has never participated in martial arts I was concerned about my ability to do well but with the patience and encouragement of the instructors I have made excellent progress. Each week at MACH is new adventure and I’m never bored as the program is always changing. The instructors strive to educate the students about the forms they are learning so classes at MACH aren’t just about physical development but also a learning opportunity. They’re always offering to help students with any questions they may have and know how to help students move past their comfort zones in a safe manner. At the time I enrolled in MACH I had either stopped or greatly reduced the activities I had enjoyed in the past, including bike riding, hiking, swimming and landscaping due to joint pain I was experiencing and lack of endurance. I’m now back to doing the things I enjoy and don’t suffer from joint pain. Not only has my overall physical condition improved but I feel more confidence in my ability to take on new challenges.

I have been in several “workout” venues where the program took me just so far. But in my 49 years of living I cannot think of a time or place where I have been not only challenged but completely motivated to far exceed my own expectations of myself. I am a marathon runner and I have never felt THIS GOOD in my body, mind & spirit like I do here at Martial Arts Center for Health. I have lost several inches and sizes since I began only a couple of months ago, and I am eating! My family life has completely turned around, and we as a unit are feeling happier and more blessed than ever. I can hardly believe the care and compassion WITHOUT judgement that I feel and now give to myself because of attending this amazing center. The instructors are of a quality that is unmatched around our country and I am so humbled and thankful to be a part of such an amazing community of people with immeasurable great qualities! I feel as though I’m being nurtured in such a positive OCEAN of a mental, spiritual and physical atmosphere, and I am setting goals and achieving them every time I am there and it feels so good! I am believing in myself as I never have and I know if I make it through the doors they will be there ready to come along and help take me where I want to go. Thank you all so very much for giving your lives to those who desire to learn and grow and thrive!

Words fall short but Ill use them anyway. This center, with its wonderful instructors, has profoundly impacted the lives of my entire family in ways that are priceless! Specific to the kids program, my two children, over the past two and a half years, have been growing in the areas of concentration, respect, self control, physical fitness, awareness, self defense and more. I see these skills making positive changes in all aspects of their lives - (school, home, peers, with each other, etc). It is a safe environment for them to be themselves as they learn. They love each one of their instructors and view them, as well as their fellow students, as extended family and friends. I will not be taking them out of this program as long as they are minors under my care. There is so much wonderful growth and potential ahead for them - it is worth it!!

I found the Martial Arts Center for Health for my son, mainly for the NO contact rule. Being a single parent I knew he needed something. Well he received a whole lot more! He gained confidence, determination and respect for himself and others. While watching his body and mind change I decided that maybe I would try it out. Here it is 12+ years later and I continue to practice at the center! At 57, I feel stronger, more confident, patient, loving and an awareness of myself that I have never had before. There is much more than martial arts too! There are seminars (beach seminars are the BEST!), events, demonstrations, picnics, workshops and precious friendships just to name a few. I recently attended a Healthy Habits Workshop where I am learning to maintain a healthy lifestyle by what I put into my body. The owners, Thomas & Eva Curtin and the Instructors truly care about each and every one of us. If you or someone you know is looking for a positive, caring environment to improve your health and so much more, I recommend the Martial Arts Center for Health!

MACH was the best investment I made for myself and family. After I saw the benefits it brought my husband, and endless failed attempts at gyms, I knew that I needed to try this. I started training in 2009, with lots of health issues which included lots of joint and muscle pain. Forms and self-defense are taught in a non-competitive, *fun* environment; focusing on health. Knowing that I was investing in my health, it changed my eating habits, and with that combination I lost 50 lbs., which has improved all my blood levels, most importantly reducing my A1C to a normal level. My training has also taught me patience and gave me the strength to survive and heal from a life threatening illness. The instructors are amazing. They are friendly, caring, fun and extremely knowledgeable. The instructors (as a team) focus on each of us as individuals achieving our maximum health benefit; something a gym does not provide. I can’t say enough about this place, it’s addicting. This is place is a needle in a haystack, you won’t find another one like it.

The Martial Arts Center for Health has been a life changer for my wife and me. When we started a couple of years ago we were both at a high stress level, not in the best of health and overweight. Our first visit was simply out of curiosity without any intention of joining. We took the free lesson and found that our curiosity had morphed into a desire to give this a try. We committed to 3 months with the understanding between the two of us that if we didn’t notice any real changes that we could just walk away. We knew we needed a little help to get our health on track but what we didn’t anticipate is that we got a LOT of help! The benefits we have seen in the time we have been with Martial Arts Center for Health (MACH) include but are not limited to; weight loss, much improved cardiovascular endurance and noticeable increase in strength. In addition to the physical improvements, we also noticed a reduction in stress levels, improved confidence (that actually shows through success in our business affairs) and we have even been able to get off of medications that we had been on for years. When your doctor asks you; “What are you doing in your life that is causing these dramatic changes?” you know that you have found something that you want to stick with. The owners, instructors and fellow students at MACH, we now consider ‘family’. There is no feeling of competition because the energy of support among us all is genuine. EVERYONE feels comfortable at their level and each person is taught to listen to their body as we go through the movements. The stories that are shared are amazing. Some have a history that would have kept a body down for life; broken backs, knee and hip surgeries, severe heart conditions and other debilitating illnesses. We strongly recommend Martial Arts Center for Health to everyone we know and those who know us long enough are convinced because of the obvious changes in us. It was one of the best decisions we have ever made. We are now committed for life!

I have been attending classes at Martial Arts Center for Health for a little over 3 years. The longest I ever went to a gym was about 3 months. This place is addictive in a good way, and they make it convenient with having 3 classes a day for four weekdays, two classes for Friday and one on Saturday. My only wish is that I would have started sooner. I am a 69-year-old great grandmother and just wonder where I could be today if I had started sooner. My goal is to be a black belt by the time I am 72.I have grown so much in the last 3 years in a good way. I have muscles in places where I never had them, I think in my life!!! I love flexing my forearms and seeing those muscles pop up. At first, I thought I was deformed! And at first, I was worried that I had lumps in my stomach only to realize that they are muscles. I don’t think I’ve had those since my babies were little-over 40 years ago. I feel my bones are so much stronger and I feel so much stronger all over. I haven’t been sick in over 3 years. I am loving the way my body feels. In addition to feeling so much better, between my diet and MACH, I have been able to remove metformin for diabetes, blood pressure medicine, and cholesterol medicine from my daily intake!!! And I’ve lost inches and can now get into a size 14 from originally an 18. I actually feel better than I’ve felt in my 40’s and 50’s. I plan on being here well into my 80’s and encourage anyone and everyone to come and try it out. You can have a free hour meeting with an instructor to check it out.

Nothing short of amazing!! MACH has sincerely changed my life. It has been the absolute BEST investment I have ever made. When I came to MACH, I just moved to the area from Atlanta. The transition to Florida was difficult, however, being a part of this place made it much better.I was not in a good place mentally, as I lost a dear family member around this time and I was physically, a worn down college athlete, with three major knee reconstruction surgeries. At only 30, I felt very hopeless in my ability to change things around, both mental and physical. What a time to find this awesome place! The instructors are absolutely wonderful. They give so much support and confidence to every student. It feels so good to be in the presence of others who have taken the step to better their lives and the energies within them. It is so effective, iv begun to implement positive changes to my overall life as well as my body.It is 100 percent, Id almost say, the best physical therapy Ive ever had. Not only has this place and its instructors shown me what mental and physical focus I was capable of, but what I would eventually achieve in that focus as well. Its never too early, its never too late to make great changes for your life. I couldnt recommend a better way to start than here! Every class is a great workout of the body and mental focus. Scott and Eva are awesome instructors!! I started at Martial Arts Center for Health (MACH) 3 years ago. About 6 months into my training here, I found myself getting into trouble at work and I could not understand why. Id been in the corporate-government arena for 15 plus years and was very effective with my skill set. I was a good employee, conscientious and hard working. I also was in a very negative environment and I did not realize how that negativity had tainted my thought processes and even my conversations at work. I ended up getting written up, reported to HR, put on probation with an improvement plan, and lost any chance of a raise for over a year. That really shocked me.But I kept coming to MACH. I come an average of 3 - 5 times a week, sometimes even 6 times a week. I can count the # of Friday evening Qi Gong classes ive missed on 1 hand. What MACH did for me was it helped me to feel better about myself and within myself. Holding positions, focusing, sweating, pushing so I hear my own heart beat, so I feel my own blood pulsing through my body, improving my body, improving my forms, feeling my breath, breathing hard, learning to control my breathing while pushing through . . . All this helped me to push out negativity that I had allowed to enter my personal field and being, and bring in positivity on all levels: physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. It helped me to be able to honestly and enthusiastically say YES! I am so glad to be here! I am so HAPPY to be alive and to really FEEL GOOD about myself and FEEL GOOD inside, even though I was still in the midst of a LOT of negativity.I am sharing this because about a month ago my new boss (at the same job) asked me when the last time was that I received a raise. Not an annual escalation, but an actual promotion/raise. In true form, I told him about being written up. He listened to the story, and then told me he was glad I was on his team (there are 7 of us). He said he would not be able manage our division if I were not there to lead the others and to step in and help them when they get lost or overwhelmed, along with handling my own workload. This past week I earned the biggest promotion Id ever received from a corporate job, and I earned the biggest increase in income that Ive ever earned before!I believe this change is attributed to all the work Im doing at MACH. It truly is invaluable and the investment we put into ourselves at Martial Arts Center for Health comes back to us 10 fold, on every level.

I was brought into the Martial Arts Center for Health by my dad about 4 years ago and we were attending the free qigong class. I saw the students out in front going through the martial arts class and it reminded me of when I was in Karate as a kid. When I came in, I had just sustained a back injury and was trying to find a way to recover from the injury, as nothing else I had tried had worked. I remember I had initially talked to Instructor Scott and he told me that they could help me not only get over my back injury, but make it stronger than ever. I had never thought of using martial arts as a way to recover from an injury before. Fast forward 4 years and Im now training for my black belt this year alongside my best friend Vijay with no more back issues and I can move my body in ways I could never dream of before joining.

I was referred to MACH in 2003 by my parents. They had already been at MACH for a couple years and received great and caring attention from instructors and many results. My dad got relief from back pain he suffered from for over 20 years and my mom was able to build bone density, confidence and so much more. It has positively impacted my life in every way. My previous experience with exercise was sports growing up and going to the gym as an adult. I was bored with the gym coupled with constant stress headaches, digestive issues and being overweight, I was looking for another way to feel better and improve my health. At 24 I entered MACH and was around my peers as well as people who were 2-3x my age that were doing things that I couldnt do which was really exciting for me. I felt challenged and saw areas that I needed to work on in a positive supportive environment. By going through the process, I was able to lose 20lbs in the first 6 months, my stress and tension headaches became a thing of the past, my digestive issues improved, and my body now feels better and is able to do things at 37 that I couldnt do in my 20s and teens. Mentally I have been able to develop strength, confidence, determination, and discipline which has helped me with personal relationships, business and how I feel about myself. I have been able to go through life challenges in a positive balacned way which was not the case prior to MACH. Along with all the fantastic health benefits I have received from my training at MACH, I have learned strong practical self defense and I know that if my life is on the line I could effectively defend myself, a family member or someone that is weaker. This confidence enhances who I am am as a person and spills over into every aspect of my life. It feels really good to be prepared and feel strong in todays changing times.

I have been a student at the Martial Arts Center for Health since 1993. I came in because I had been living with a debilitating back problem for eighteen years and had gotten a chance to meet owner and founder, Thomas Curtin, who had been laid up with a back injury for a year. He was able to correct his problem through the movements he was now teaching.I had nothing to lose so I began my training with very small goals, one of which was simply to stand up straight when I got out of bed. It was taking me ten minutes to do this at the start of my training.I accomplished this first goal in three weeks and have never looked back. The last time I experienced back pain was around Christmas of 1994. I am totally unlimited in what I can do and can even do things now that I could not do when I was 18 years old before my back problem really became severe. The physical strength I began building helped my confidence and mental strength soar. This helped me take on challenges in all areas of my life that I would have previously avoided.I changed careers and was able to earn three to five times more income than my previous career. The benefits of training here are profound and unique. What is taught and the way it is taught allows someone to grow and develop mentally and physically in a way that is far greater than any alternatives I have ever seen.Because all movements are energetically correct with no negative implications, you intuitively feel better because all of your systems begin operating at a higher level and your body and mind work as one. This mental engagement is key to why you feel so good after training. The act of concentrating on how to correctly move the body releases the stresses of life we so often are playing over and over in our heads. This is why I feel energized, focused, determined, centered, strong and more at peace after my training.I have an amazing life because of what I have learned at the Martial Arts Center for Health

I have been attending the Martial Arts Center for Health for 4 months now and I love it! The approach is truly centered on health. I have been a dancer/choreographer since I was 8 years old, (42 years) and I was looking for something to transition to at this stage in my life when I need to be careful not to be injured and still maintain an active lifestyle. I am happy to have found a movement practice that is so aligned with health. The movement/exercises/forms that we learn help improve strength, flexibility and clearness of mind and focus. The martial arts forms (Chi Gung, Kung Fu, Tai Chi, etc) are inherently good for the body and include practices that improve health from the inside out, including memory, breath, strength and flexibility. I love the incorporation of hands and eyes in some of the forms as well – nothing is left forgotten. And the added bonus is that we are learning self-defense techniques along the way!The instructors are kind, knowledgeable and clearly have an interest in preventing injury and helping each person progress individually at their own level and pace. Another aspect I appreciate is that there are people of all ages, sizes and abilities who attend the classes there. Everyone is friendly, welcoming and encouraging with one another; and the center is a beautiful environment to be in.You are given an initial free private consultation that allows you to try movement with an instructor one-on-one and if you decide to join, you are able to attend as many classes as you’d like for a monthly fee. But the one-on-one assistance from the instructors does not end there … they are available for help before and after classes and they schedule short private appointments with each person regularly to check in, help you with movement and address any particular concerns.Whether your focus is self-defense or improving your health, the MACH is a perfect fit! I highly recommend it!

Seven years ago we enrolled our then eight year old son Gabriel.  The idea was to find him something active and fun to do.  Little did we know that we were getting so much more.  MACH is a family. Many places say that, but for them it is true.MACH not only focuses on training them to have strong and healthy bodies, they train them to have strong and healthy minds as well. Gabriel would frequently come home with “homework” requiring him to think of ways to put into practice some of the character traits that they had been working on. Confidence, determination, discipline and respect for self and others are just a few of the traits that MACH has encouraged. The lessons that he has learned as a child will continue to help him throughout his adult life.Gabriel is currently working towards his 2nd degree blackbelt. Along the way, he has been challenged and encouraged to excel at every aspect of his training. The look of pride on his face as he accomplishes another goal is priceless. If you are looking for more than the run of the mill “karate” school, youve found the right place. You will be joining a family.

In a prior life I had done MMA training. This is a pitbull approach to martial arts and it works. But I kept getting injured. Then I couldnt go for 2 weeks. That first week back was always overwhelming so it became a cycle I couldnt keep up. I was looking for something I can do the rest of my life.Martial Arts Center for Health has changed my thought about what martial arts and mindful body movement is about. Not only has it changed my body in ways I didnt expect (such as a stronger back, legs, & core) it has also changed my focus. When I leave a class my mind is sharp. My body isnt tired. My muscles are, not my body.Since January I have learned tai chi and kung fu forms that I can do in my living room. But that doesnt measure to class. Its amazing what you will allow yourself to get away with. The instructors adjust just 1 inch in your stance or movement and it changes everything.I recommend taking an hour out of your day and thinking entirely about breathing and body movement while strengthening and enhancing flexibility. I promise you wont regret it.

As an update one year later, I have lost 25 pounds no longer required to take blood pressure medication which is extraordinarily prevelant in my family. Im still prone to it if my body is under unusual stress like a recent vertigo episode. Once the vertigo left, my blood pressure went back normal of course! That could have happened to anyone! My Lupus flare-ups are now rare and minimal - especially with a huge reduction of the chronic fatigue associated with it ( Im still able to attend class on an occassional so-so day) In contrast, my fatigue used to put me out for days! Also, My body is better conditioned today than it was 20 years ago when I worked out regularly at the gym at the age of 25! Im not claiming this pathway is a magic bullet. It takes a love for the activity and a lot of hard work. I fit it into my schedule 5 days a week as a single mom! Its in my routine as concrete as a job and cooking dinners. No room for excuses in my life. The money Im saving in health costs alone is worth my investment of time and tuition.Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would be involved with martial arts. Someone else set up an appointment for me for my birthday! I wasnt looking for this at all!Once you see a free demonstration from one of our masterful instructors who are always willing to share (and by the way they are ALL compassionate, kind and sooo funny! Lots of laughter in this space), that will be the moment when you say to yourself...That is too cool for words and I want to do that too. There is nothing to lose when our instructors will meet with you for free. It makes for a unique birthday gift, thats for sure! In my case, a life long gift I will be forever greatful for. (Disclosure: If I sound like Im in the sales industry, be assured I am not. This is MY heart felt testimony that describes only my experience. Many more people need this, they just dont know it yet.)
