These folks are so patient with their students! Very family oriented and show respect to all who go there. Friendly staff, willing to answer questions and take the extra time to make you feel like youve been heard. The children are loving their classes and hopefully theyll want to continue for a long time.

My son studies Tae Kwan Do at home, and he attended Southwick while we were visiting my parents for the summer. The staff and students were so welcoming. The training was excellent. We’ll be back next summer!

Fantastic school. They care about their students. They teach more than fancy martial art moves. They teach other principles such as confidence, integrity, respect and leadership. My daughter has been going for 3 years and loves it. She has risen from a quiet kid to a teenage Black Belt Assistant Instructor.

My son started with Southwick Academy last September. He loves going to practice and the teachers are wonderful. Master Kris is patient and great at keeping the kids in line. My son has gained more confidence since joining, he is learning the value of hard work during his time in the little dragons program. I highly recommend this, especially for quiet kids that need to come out of their shell.

A few years ago I started taking Martial Arts at Southwick Black Belt Academy. I have made numerous friendships and feel I have grown as a person in a good way. I have found it has helped for my training in multiple sports including cross country, track and cheer! I love my Southwick family!

Having known Scott Southwick aka Master Southwick for the better part of 10 years I can without a doubt vouch for him as a person, and a professional. In life we all need a mentor or role model in our lives that much is true, but what is true for me is the fact that without Master Southwick I woud not be where I am today. Hes very easy to work with as long as you are genuine and honest. lying is never pretty from anyone but he is apt for picking up on lies, and it will not take you far with him or his school. He expects nothing but the highest personal character of people and is more than willing to help people develop them selves and grow. His school is one of the highest quality schools that you will find any where. Having traveled a lot, looking into schools of other areas I can personally attest to the quality that Master Southwick brings to the martial arts community. I do not wish to speak poorly of schools and It should be noted that this is not my intention, however Southwick Black Belt Academy stand out where ever they go bot in and out of a martial arts environment. Master Southwick is a fair man, he will never behave in such a manner that is not consistent with the highest character levels. Should there be anyone who does not feel the same or similar as I do, then I hope some day they can. You cant talk to master for more than 10 minutes without liking the guy, give it a try some time youll see what I mean. Any ways, as long winded as this may be, I can say that I can not speak positively enough about Master Southwick and his school. Seriously great man with an equally great family and school. Thumbs way up.

Scott Southwick and his familys knowledge and skill in the martial arts they claim to represent is not in question here. However, Scotts integrity, honor, and all-around character traits are. As the home page of their website will show, the things they claim to value are all laid out in the logo, a representation of Yin and Yang. Among the well known and highly respected symbol are many positive words: confidence, attitude, respect, discipline, and most importantly, integrity. These are all important concepts of study in the never-ending pursuit of knowledge and wisdom that is martial arts, however NONE of these traits are shown by this master Scott. His lack of patience and disrespect for the personal and unique trials that his students face is quite upsetting, dare I say sickening. To be someone that claims to have skill to teach to others is one thing, but to claim that your wisdom can help others with the struggles of their mind and body and then act as I have seen and heard testimony of Mr. Southwick acting, that is unforgivable. Why is this so unforgivable? Because we as parents, family members, and loved ones have entrusted this man with the people we love; he and his prestigious family have stood on their high and mighty pedestal towering over Eastern Idaho and dedicated themselves to the burden to help develop the body, mind, and spirit of others, whereas in reality they have destroyed years of mental health in at least three of my loved ones. Please, for the love of all that is good, especially for how martial art was truly intended, do not grace this academy with your presence. Most importantly, protect your children during the fragile time that is their development, and do not let them be poisoned by Scotts false words and manipulations. You will only fall victim to his enlarged ego and deceit, and entangled in a mental and spiritual web of lies that has scarred, at the VERY LEAST, three people..

I’ve been with the Southwick Academy for almost 9 years. I have NEVER heard of BRYCE MILLIRON or a family of that name. His accusations couldn’t be further from the truth. I can’t even fathom why someone would say anything of the sort. Perhaps from another Academy? My family and I love the variety of styles taught and the personal and personable approach to physical, spiritual, and mental training. It’s always been my experience and observation that Master Southwick truly does strive to live by the standards he teaches. He is confident, strong, intelligent, personable, honest, and teachable. He is also humble and has a personal quest for continuous learning and improvement. He always listens to his students and staff and genuinely wants to help then learn and grow. He is a servant leader who gives of his time and vast talents freely. I am so grateful for the blessing it has been in my life and that of my family. He trains his students and instructors to be servant leaders as well. Because of these attributes and the quality of this training he was voted Instructor of the Year by the International Martial Arts Council, a prestigious honor. It’s truly a gift to have someone of his talents and rank in Southeast Idaho. I’ve had Academy friends take it for granted until they moved away and tried to find equivalent instruction in the areas they live. It just doesn’t happen.I too have checked out other schools and the quality of the technique and training isn’t remotely as high. In addition, the Southwick Black Belt Academy has a feeling of family. We love and support each other. We encourage each other when we struggle through hard things and rejoice with each other when we overcome. Sometimes we have to lovingly correct a problem. That’s part of continual improvement. That is what you get with this Academy. They work with all ages and abilities with kindness and patience. I’ve seen people literally transform and blossom in this program.

Our entire family has been training with Southwick Black Belt Academy in Taekwondo, Kung Fu, and Grappling. Every single instructor invests their time, talents, knowledge, and genuine care into their students and families. Throughout our time with this school one daughter learned how to manage her anxiety to the point that it is almost non existent. Another child has learned to set clear boundaries instead of letting others use her. It’s given me tools as a parent to help raise my children the way I always envisioned but couldn’t figure out on my own. They say it takes a village, the Southwick family and staff is absolutely my village!

Southwick Black Belt Academy has been training my family for just over 3 years. Our lives have had much upheaval during those three years and we have had nothing but support from our Southwick family. When I say family, it goes beyond just the Southwicks themselves. I have developed friendships with other parents and students that are irreplaceable.Their style of training is unique in that it looks at you as a person not just a martial arts student. They are more than willing to work around injury or disability. I greatly appreciate the input I have as a parent when it comes to my childs training. I am on track to have my black belt in a little over a year. 3 years ago, I would have laughed at the mere thought of me doing any kind of martial arts, but at Southwick I have learned that I CAN! I will always be grateful that my children begged to learn how to break boards :)
