My boyfriend and I decided we wanted to try something new and Im so glad this was what we decided! The private wheel spinning session with Autumn was fun, educational, and therapeutic! She taught us beginner techniques and even showed us some advanced skills that she has learned over the years. Autumn is knowledgeable in her craft like no other and you can see that she has a real passion for clay and for the other beautiful arts and crafts she has available. I highly suggest taking a class with her - shes a delight. Our pottery came out BEAUTIFUL and I am so ecstatic to use my new dishware. I also think the studio has a done a great job with covid restrictions with private classes and scheduled times to come back to follow up on your project. There was also excellent communication with the studio about returning and pick up of your pieces..Thank you so much, Autumn! Cant wait to return for more :)

Took an after-work two-hour wheel thrown pottery class last night. The class is maximum four students so it was just the four members of my family and it was so fun. Three of us were absolute novices and Autumn was an excellent teacher, stepping in whenever we needed help but also letting us work as independently as we wanted. We each made four items which were a mix of bowls, mugs, and even a plate-ish shape. Highly recommend this for a family or girls night out. Bonus: the shop in front of the studio is full of unique and lovely items. I walked out with a super-cute summer romper dress, which was fully unexpected for an art studio.

I did the beginners pottery class for my birthday with my friends and we had a blast!Autumn was very attentive, encouraging and helpful as an instructor. She gave us as much clay to work with as we needed and helped us make our pieces giving us as much guidance as we asked for. Or let us go wild and free and and just do our thing. She’s very friendly and a great instructor!Even tho it was only scheduled for an hour we ended up going a little bit longer and yet she never made us feel rushed. it also felt much longer than an hour and it was tons of fun the whole time! Can’t wait to go back and glaze our pieces!

This place is amazing becasue it is owned and operated by the most spectacular young Lady who strives for perfection in everything she does!I placed a large order of 4 soup bowls and 2 large coffee mugs, all with very specifics, such as designs and colors, Autumn created EXACTLY what I had in my head and in speed time. This studio is a delight to work with, you feel the great energy as soon as you walk in the doors and its emphasized as soon as you meet Miss Autumn. Absolute delight! This Lady has more energy in one hour of her day then I do in 8, which she needs for her one-women show, providing back to the community with lessons for all ages and groups, kits, art for sale & of course the amazing pottery either off the shelf or special orders. She never holds back and is right there listening to your needs, then ready to produce your dreams.I highly recommend!!

Ive done so much business with Autumn in the last 18 months. First was a class I signed up for painting a unicorn for a friends daughter. I stayed to supervise my 15 year old paint the project and about a month later was able to pick it up. Fast forward to the ART KITS! Ive purchased 4 kits to include: Alaska, Chameleon, pineapples and gnome village. If available Autumn will let you customize your colors of glass, clear instructions are given and art kit comes in a box. I would recommend getting mosaic cutters from Lowes or HD(as its listed in the instructions as helpful hints) and make sure you have a table cover, rubber gloves, bowls and sponges. The kits are so much fun, time consuming, but in the end the reward is awesome! In the description theres a clear timeline on when theyll be available for pickup and I havent an issue with any kit Ive ordered on the timeline. The art kits are such an awesome price for what you get and an awesome thing to do as a girls night or a family fun time!Appreciate the creativity Autumn!

Id been wanting to take pottery lessons for years and finally made the plunge here at Clay Owen Studios. Signed up for a sip and spin class and enjoyed it so much that Ive been a return customer. Autumn is a great instructor and very personable. I love the laid back atmosphere here as I find it very conducive to creating fun art. Its a very satisfying feeling to use a bowl or mug that youve created from a ball of clay. If you are on the fence, sign up! You wont regret it.

Autumn is a talented pottery maker and an engaging teacher. If it were just about the class itself, or just her art work, Id give her 5 stars. Unfortunately, the organization side of this business is very poor. I dont know if maybe she has more business than she can keep up with, or whether its just a lack of assistance; in any event, youll be struggling to hear from her, or work with her. Additionally, shes not very good at customer service and gets very defensive when pushed to respond. If you just want to buy a piece of her work then shes fine. If youre wanting the class that she offers, Id probably recommend going elsewhere. EDIT: Just a few responses to the business owner below. We tried working with her, but the response below is very much how she responds to everything. No, we did not complain all the time, in fact we quite enjoyed the class, even though she said it would be a private class (which we wanted due to COVID) but then wasnt. She has a habit of double booking people, as we saw others get the same treatment and walk out. She did not teach us to glaze, as she had booked a class at the same time. She did not fire the pieces, as she kept saying she needed to have her kiln full. All said, this entire process occurred over 2 months of going back and forth with her. Ill say it again, shes a talented artist and the actual teaching portion is good. Its an odd situation where you can actually walk out of the class happy, even though the class was not as presented, and then two months later decide to give them a one star review for the treatment after the sale.

Warning! Horribly disorganized, studio is a hot mess and owner is defensive when you inquire about progress of items.Paid for a private party and had a surprise when we got there in having another person attend. Amanda asked if it was okay if that person stays (right in front of the other person) Im sure knowing we wouldnt say no! Promised partial refund which we never received. Making of the pottery was great and we enjoyed the class itself. Amanda was engaging and a good teacher. However, everything else was horrible.Showed for glazing and some of our pieces were missing and had limited guidance by her 15 year old assistant who was with us for all of 15 minutes, none from Amanda other than her yelling down to say how you guys doing and she continued to teach her next class.Kindly inquired about our refund and missing items and Amanda got very defensive and she accepts no responsibility or fault. Decided we didnt want to have anything to do with her any further and told her we didnt want our items.

In on our honeymoon trip, show up for a private class and the teacher is not there. The tried to get us to reschedule for the following week!!! We said no and the teacher finally came in 90 min late. The actual class was fine, but afterward dealing with them became impossible. We made arrangements to have them ship our items to us. 9 months later, no items and little to no communication. We have attempted to contact them via phone and email at least a dozen times to no avail. I do not recommend them

If you haven’t taken a class from Autumn you are missing out. She’s kind, friendly, and a patient and talented instructor. She’s also great with kids. Our first class was a kids class and we all had fun. Even my husband got into creating with clay. Her art is beautiful and she keeps coming up with new ideas for pieces. Her business has grown so much even in the just the last year that I’ve been taking her classes. She will be the first to admit that there have been some growing pains. But she’s recognized what she needs to do to help her business accommodate fast growth and high demand. Give her another chance. You won’t be disappointed!!!

Attended the 1-hour introductory pottery class. Autumn was an excellent instructor, explaining how to start and complete pieces and was there to step in when help was needed. The small group environment was very enjoyable, as we all felt like friends by the time the class was over.Heres my reasoning for the 2-star review: We enjoyed our time, but were told we would have 2-3 pieces to take home after they were fired in a few weeks. It took months, and then we were offered pieces that were not even ours, or the colors we chose. She tried to convince me they were, but I wouldnt take them because otherwise somebody else would be missing theirs as well. She offered to find our pieces and meet up with us again, but then stopped responding and never did meet up. We never got our pieces, unfortunately. She also offered to let us come again (which was great of her), but again, stopped responding and became unreachable... so that didnt work out either. There is no organization or method to the madness there. So this was a fun class for instructional reasons, but expect to pay $40 for just that... you probably wont be taking home any pieces... or at least your own pieces. Id go somewhere else. :/

A group of friends with mixed artistic and skill levels took a stained glass otter class taught by Autumn. She was warm and gracious and spent time on both group instruction and individual assistance. Autumn helped as much or as little as each person wanted. This is a working pottery and glass studio, so you will get very dusty but you will also leave having learned a few things and having had a good time.

I planned a work event for 16 women at Clay Owens Studio and we all had a fabulous time!Autumn spent individual time with each of us, giving us pointers and helping us shape our pottery. She had enough room for half to start with the wheel and the other to start with the hand mugs. Autumn even went as far as to open up her show room for appetizers and wine!We cant wait to go back and glaze our pottery!

Friday night Sip and Spin! My wife had long wanted to try throwing pottery on a wheel so this was a Birthday present. When I read the description I was surprised that it might be possible to create several pieces and, in fact, the four of us were able to turn out several bowls and mugs. Autumn is an amazing teacher and I couldnt possibly recommend one of her classes highly enough. If youve ever wanted to throw pottery you should give this a try. She offers longer classes, as well, but this gives you the opportunity to find out if its something youll want to pursue further. Either way, its a great evening!

What a wonderful place! My husband and I found this place on Groupon and we are thrilled. We have done a stained glass class and also a pottery class so far. Be prepared for cluttered, close quarters, which is expected for this young, entrepreneur (Autumn) that teaches many different types of art and all on her own. She gets a significant amount of business and can at times have several classes going on. This results in her having to bounce back and forth with students and instructing them at times. She does an amazing job for running this establishment all on her own. If you feel like you need more instruction, just ask her. She is incredibly kind and patient and more than willing to spend more time with a student in need of more instruction. To sum it all up; it was a blast and we will be returning many times in the future!

Hello lovely people of Anchorage,My good friend and I set forth to find a place that is relaxed and fun and we found it! The bonus was of course Autumn, the owner! She is extremely gifted and a very patient instructor. We so enjoyed our week of instruction and really learned alot. And we looked forward to learning more...At a later date, my grand-daughters joined us there for an evening of instruction on the wheel, created different and unique clay box holders, and even indulged in some pizza. They too, had a blast getting their hands in clay! Autumn works so well with the kids and my girls really liked her. Have fun community and I hope all goes well for you!🌻

I found this little shop by getting a groupon. My husband and I did the pottery on the wheel class and then a few weeks later went back and painted our creations. It was so fun! And even if your missing a creative bone the instructor makes you feel great about your piece. And she makes it fun, even if you mess up. I cant wait to go back again. And also try a few of the other classes offered.

I did not have a great experience. The place was a mess. Very unorganized. A friend and I went to the mosaic class. We were going to get a call in a couple of days after the grouting was complete. Never got a call. Months later friend got a hold of teacher. She claimed she was sick. I was the one to actually pick the items up and they had never been grouted and she claimed it was because she was busy with fairs all summer. Glad items werent a gift. I then left with two mosaics dripping with wet grout months later. If we had known that would be the case, we would have taken them with us the first night and grouted ourselves. Also, no hanging mechanism put on the back as promised. Neither of us will be return customers. There are cleaner and more organized studios out there.

The owner is nice enough, but EXTREMELY disorganized. They ignore voicemails and correspondence. Ive been trying to get in touch with them for almost 3 months to collect my pottery and my correspondence goes unanswered. Theyve cancelled glazing appointments and were a no-show at another, not to mention delaying firing. I started my pottery the last week of September...its now the end of January and I still dont have my completed projects. I will NOT be going back.

I first went when this studio was off 4th Street downtown two years ago. The experience was bad. She said she would put the a handle in a mug but when I returned to glaze it she said she let it sit out too long and wasnt able to put a handle on. I glazed it and waited for a call, which never came. Finally I called and was informed it had been to long and the cup had been tossed.Tried again a month ago, thinking sometimes it takes some time to get things running smoothly. She had the pottery class going the same time as a watercolor class and kept going between classes and would be gone for 10 minutes or more leaving us sitting at the pottery wheels with no clay watching the time on the hour class pass. The clay was over wet and very hard to work with when we did manage to get clay. A few weeks later went in to glaze my bowls and was told they were still cooling in the kiln. Came back a few weeks after that and she couldnt find my pots. Ended up handing me two pots with someone elses initials on them. When I pointed it out she said one of the pots was mine and one wasnt. The one pot she said was mine had an uneven foot, and she said it had dried out too much so it was hard to trim the foot and thats why it was uneven (aka, she had let it dry out too much) She said she would look for the other pot and glaze it for me and call me when they were done. Got a text a few weeks later that she had found my pot and glazed it, but then the glaze ran in the kiln and she had to break the pot to get it out so she would just give me one of her own pots instead. My husband picked up my pot and she gave him a second one off the for sale shelf. Then a while she later emailed saying on second thought the first bowl probably wasnt mine either and if I wanted to come back I could have a free class. I think Ill pass. Shes very nice, but super disorganized but and from start to finish every single step was a total mess.
