The Eaton’s are wonderful trainers and people who care deeply for their clients and animals. I have taken both group and private lessons from them and have become a better rider and horse-woman for it. They have a number of horses from which they are able to teach riders specific skills from. After almost 10 years of riding with them… I look forward to my weekly lesson, and have continued to build my skill set with a fun group of adult amateur riders. I would recommend them over any other barn in Alaska.

After visiting various horse ranches and observing how owners/handlers treat their horses; Ive been deeply saddened by what Ive seen. Ive noted that even ranches that have generally positive reputations; are using training techniques that cause trauma to the horses psyche and prevent healthy human/animal bonding. If youre a gentle person who truly respects and honors the beauty and grace of a horse; you may not be comfortable at Eton. I personally saw antiquated, painful tools and methods being used for training; and children being taught how to use them. Part of Etons training includes forcing young girls to use whips in a hurtful and unnecessarily harsh manner. Being sensitive and impressionable; many of these girls are brought to tears at having to hurt the horses. There are gentler methods that are more effective than these. The horses here are never allowed to be together; which is isolating and lonely for a herd animal. They are so agitated and unhappy that one of them reached out of his box and took a nip out of a visitors cheek; though the visitor did nothing to provoke this reaction. After being informed about the accident; the owners completely ignored it and took no interest in at least questioning the person regarding the incident. True; everyone is responsible for their own well-being when around animals; however, this behavior is not typical of a happy, content and balanced horse. There is a profession which has recently been dubbed Animal Communicator. Animal Communicators are people who have an innate gift and ability to connect and communicate with animals and help their owners solve long-standing problems they were unable to resolve any other way. The horses would likely be quite happy to have one of these communicators pay them a visit. They could give the horses a voice so they could tell us whats going on: Is there something that is making you unhappy, ill, or uncomfortable? Are you feeling safe, secure, content, and cared for? Is there something I can do to help or make it better?~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~If you are one of those fortunate people who owns a horse or gets to spend time with one; consider it a great honor and gift. The Horse is a highly spiritual, soul-inspiring; and healing being; that deserves nothing less than our complete respect and admiration. We should happily do all we can to fill their lives with as much joy, comfort, and Love as possible.Namaste andGod bless.

I took lessons at Eaton for about 6 months while I lived in Anchorage, and I have nothing but great things to say about Dana and Britta. They each have their own style and nuances of teaching, but they are both very professional, knowledgeable, and fun. Ive taken lessons in various places around the country and I would say they are at the top of the list. After working with instructors that can be impatient or even rude, it was so refreshing to work with these gals. They were always so flexible with my difficult schedule too! I anyways left my lesson feeling like Id learned something valuable. Dana especially was so good at helping me see the value in what wed done, even on the rare days when things didnt go so great (because of my mistakes usually). Some of the other things I loved about riding with Dana were that she is very technical and detail-oriented in her style. However, she was never pushy or overbearing, and ALWAYS explained the why behind what we were doing. I should add that all of the horses I rode at the stable were spectacular as well. I never felt unsafe or intimidated by the horses they matched me with.Ive ridden western style all my life, but riding at Eaton made me realize how much more I have to learn in the world of English and jumping. Thanks so much, Dana and Britta! Miss you guys!
