I have been sending my kids to Dicken for 9 years. They have all had a wonderful experience. Great teachers, super supportive parents, bountiful school garden.

Great caring staff. Great community of parents. Our class was 20 to 1 ratio K-2. Cant wait for out younger one to start.

Corrupted ! Roaches were seen in lunch room. Theres no responsibility for their actions. Principal Madison doesnt care about running the school . He gets ahead of himself by running around the school wavying his job position. This prinipal is not all there! He tends to charge at students in the lunch room for a simple accident as dropping food on the floor . Principal Madison is a liability to Ann Arbor Public Schools. Madisons entire demeanor , actions and thought process is corrupted. Mr. Madison Is a baffling disaster.

Dicken is awesome! It has such cool assemblies, great teachers, everything!

Its sad to see a school like this in Ann Arbor, but I guess every city has its bad sides. Dicken is definitely one of the worst elementary schools around. Unsanitary, problems with roaches and rodents, and a much more ghetto culture than other schools. Students who graduated from Dicken unfortunately seem to almost always be in average or below average levels of academics. Help your kids and dont send them here.

Negatives:- Ongoing rodent problem in building; lunch room is makeshift area in the auditorium.- Very poor student-to-teacher ratio - 1 class had 29 kids!- Agenda regarding race very non-mainstream & biased toward African-American plight over other minorities (Principal was previously in trouble for this).- Unlocked doors allow almost complete uninhibited access.- No gifted / accelerated classes.- Classes cater to non-local transplants at the expense of time of enhancing local student studies.- By 3rd or 4th grade students should be getting letter grades - but are still using Kindergarten type performance markers - makes it very hard for parents to assess child(ren)s progress.+ Good participation by parents+ Many extra-curricular activities+ Nice school garden
