This school has really gone down hill! The class sizes are large and it’s no longer about what’s best for the children! Funding seems to be of the up most importance. Staff changes have really had a negative effect on the School as well. All traditions have gone out the window and many people are upset about it. I have noticed many children talking negatively about their day and the educators when walking home with my child and it’s sad to see our once great school become the “public school” we tried to avoid when choosing Excel!

Some of the teachers managed to bully me and get away with it all. Teachers will always target someone. I was here 9 years and my 4th and 5th grade years were the worst. I couldnt go a day without being picked on by students and my teacher All the good teachers would get fired for the most stupid(and little) reasons (mostly male teachers). Also, since I have left more good teachers were fired and girls arent allowed to wear leggings. Now that I am in highschool I can be very confident to say that most of the teachers at this school should not be teachers.

Went here for “middle school” (grades 7/8) 2010-2012. I was bullied horribly at this school, and was told by an English teacher (she’s not there anymore) to “not talk about what I had gone through because other kids may copy me”. My mom made it seem like going here would challenge me, but most of the curriculum was behind the elementary school I had left from, so the classes were even easier than they had been when I was in elementary school. Stuff I had learned in 4th grade, I had to “relearn” (as the class around me learned it the first time) in 7th and 8th grade. You basically can’t fail out of this school, and the grades here are different.I don’t know if my experience is because I came in during grade 7 as opposed to being there K-8, but a boy who came from the same school as me, didn’t have these troubles. Many of the secretaries in the office were super nice, and the librarian was very helpful. My 7/8 history teacher was one of the best teachers I’ve had. But overall... this school experience screwed me up, and I wish I had gone to the much lower rated Arvada middle/K-8.

I have mixed feelings about this place. Some teachers are nice and amazing people, who I aspire to be, but some obviously don’t care about you or your well being. I have felt uncomfortable around some teachers, and sometimes even angry. The lunch food is not good, but if you’re put with a nice teacher, such as Ms. Hares in 6th Grade, you can have a completely great year! Overall, if you are a parent sending your kid here, I’d check in with your child, and be honest with them, to see if they’re having any problems with teachers or students. If you’re a student reading this…Good luck

I have very high expectations for the education my son receives (currently he is in first grade and it is his second year at Excel). Excel has been amazing..I truly appreciate the collaborative learning environment at this school. Teachers, staff and parents all truly foster an learning culture. The kids are all challenged at their own levels: my son is a grade advanced in math and gets to leave his first grade classroom each day for one hour to take second grade math. He is still struggling some with being consistent in his reading so he leaves his main class for 15 min each day for smaller group reading. The parents at Excel all seem to be genuinely involved in their childs education. As mentioned my son is in second grade, he has already had four research presentations (three in Kindergarten and one so far in 1st grade). Thanks to these assignments, he is able to stand up in front of a room of 40 people and give a presentation. The support staff, including the main office and the maintenance staff are the most friendly and helpful people I get to encounter. I am glad we made the decision to enroll our son at Excel Academy.

Overall, my children and I have been pleased with our experience at Excel. The rigorous academic culture is a good fit for us, and we appreciate the smaller school experience. Having your kindergarten teacher just down the hall from your middle school locker can provide a feeling of support during an otherwise tumultuous time of life. The field trips are fun and educational, and Excel supports students fundraising efforts. When difficulties arise, the staff and administration usually pursue a beneficial outcome.

My daughter has ADHD, and was struggling badly in public school. Starting in 3rd grade, she began attending Excel, and she is now in 8th grade, and loves the school and the teachers. We have always had support from the staff, and I feel the curriculum will help her be prepared for high school more than if she was at our neighborhood school. She tells me any kid who doesn’t like Excel hasn’t gone to public school! She sees the difference, and life’s it here.

This school allows bullies. Very poor consistency with students and rules. I’m not sure if they really do not monitor the classroom and playground or they just don’t care. They just seemed surprised by what is going on in general.

I have been at this schools since kindergarten, and it was the worst time of my life. k-5 is amazing, the teachers are actually interested in your personal success, and there are loads of interactive field trips to go on, and I had such a good time. Then comes sixth grade. In all my previous years, I had such good grades and nothing short of masteries. In sixth grade though, they pile so, so much on you. The amount of mental breakdowns I had in that grade was ridiculous, and you get zero reward even if you do good. That was the first year I ever got a D, and all they said was that I should have tried harder. I messaged the two teachers asking them constantly what I could do when I was gone to make up the work, and I hardly got responses, both were very basic and not at all what I needed to know in order to complete said assignments. I constantly asked for extra-credit, and never got any response or any support or any advice in what I should do in order to get my grade up. It sucked, but at least I got through it. Then comes seventh grade, which in all honesty, was so great. The teachers were easy to comply with, and I had none of the problems I had last year, the teachers were easy to communicate with, and I had such good grades I got honor roll. Peace committee, a committee where you plan school events was the best thing ever, and was surrounded by admirable 8th graders who you could actually look up to. It was a nice space for creative-minded kids to come together and do things. The teacher who oversaw everything, Mrs. Herring, was AMAZING. She was understanding in every mannerism, and was the most understanding of any teacher. Everything was super great until the end. At the end, in my 7th grade math class, the teacher that filled in for the second semester, shoved a desk at a kid who was seemingly doing nothing in order to deserve this. He ended up getting hit in the eye and everyone was silent for the rest of the period because of his very clear aggression, and we were afraid. Some kids even cried. The administration did very, very little to actually do something about this. They had us do a support group where all they did was let him explain why he did what he did. His defense was I just wanted to prove a point, he was talking and I was fed up. While discussing how I felt, I was cut off by the principal because she felt I was being disrespectful. I- He literally hit the kid but thats cool I guess? They didnt do anything to make the situation better, just added in another teacher to make sure he didnt do anything, and we had to be silent all the time, and sit in alphabetical order. They basically just swept the incident under the rug, and he remained the teacher for the rest of the year. Next up was 8th grade, and I was so excited to finally have a good year, and get over what happened last year. Things were different, because Mrs.Herring left. We got a new writing teacher, and right from the start there was something weird. i had wrote a more political paper, and apparently it didnt align with her personal views. Mind you, I did not write anything vulgar, or by any means a joke, it was completely serious. She gave me a zero. I turned it in, it wasnt missing, nothing was wrong with it, she just said i didnt go along her guidelines, whatever that means. According to the schools grading rubric, you cant give a zero unless its missing, or turned in three days late. From then on it was trash. She hated our class, but acknowledged that we were one of the smartest ones. She constantly cried and talked about her life, which in a work environment was completely inappropriate. She often talked about her kids and their specific situations and battles with drugs like meth and weed. It was so, so weird, because literally no one knew how to handle such heavy stuff. It was awkward. Every other teacher was fine, except for they all had favorites and it was very very clear. Luckily enough, i had a good enough reputation to get by without constantly getting yelled at.

This is literally the worst place on the planet!!! I have gone here since kindergarten and am very unpleased. I have been here longer than most of the teachers (including Mrs. Gjellum). This school was great until I got into the middle school. The administration wants us to jump off the planet and doesnt care about us or our well being. Teachers cry in class and bring up two year old gossip about other students on a daily basis. This school is run by women and employs only women. So naturally they are very, very sexist. All of the teachers are liberals and try to push all of those beliefs on to their students. You will learn the same things in third grade as you are taught in 8th.If you care about you kids DO NOT SEND THEM HERE. They will have thoughts of anger and depression. Please dont send your kids here!!!!!!

I’ve gone to this school since kindergarten, I’m in the 8th grade and all 4 of my siblings have gone as well. I wouldn’t walk from excel, I’d RUN.If you do choose to send your child here, Once they hit that 6th grade mark I’d pull them out as soon as possible.I like most of my teachers in 7/8th but the administration treats middle school like absolute garbage. We have always been an after thought and almost a punching bag for Mrs. Gjellum. My continuation form this school is exactly 3 months 17 days 1 hour 7 minutes and 45 seconds away and I couldnt be more excited.DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE! IF YOU CARE ABOUT THEIR HEALTH AND WELLNESS DO NOT SEND THEM HERE

Grades K-3 are good but fourth grade and up suck. Middle school is very bad. The teachers pick favorites and bully the kids they don’t like. I go this school, and am moving because jt sucks. The teachers don’t care if you’re crying, or are sad, all they will do is give you chores. I was very sad once, and all the teachers could do is get me to do community service. 6th grades teachers suck, they will yell at you for absolutely no reason over the smallest stuff. The nicest teacher is Mrs Bortner, but other than that I suggest they do re-hiring.
