My daughter, 4, has been enrolled for nearly three months attending class four nights a week at the Burlington location and can not wait to get to class. Anyone with a young child can understand the sentiment behind that statement. The teachers are great at what they do, from introducing new techniques to discussing age appropriate life lessons. The self control they teach shows even outside of class. I can not think of an instance since she has started where she has not answered with a “Ma’am” or “Sir” in her response, and I’m referring to outside of class. There is much to praise Sr. Master Macon and his team of teachers for but the self confidence, motivation and sheer joy I see in my daughter keep us here.

My son enrolled in the Little Leaders Class when he was three years old. He loves it! The instructors do a great job of making it fun while also setting high expectations for each student. As a school teacher and a parent, I love the self-discipline it teaches - especially at such a young age. My sons listening skills and body control have definitely improved as a result of these classes. I appreciate that Mr. Macon and the instructors often seek parent feedback and work to meet the needs of individual parents and kids.

My 5-year-old began the Little Leaders program at Macon’s Martial Arts (Burlington, NC) a little over a month ago and we have been incredibly pleased with what he has accomplished so far! The staff are very knowledgeable and welcoming. They have high, but age-appropriate, behavior and focus expectations that students are encouraged to rise to meet during each lesson. As an elementary school teacher, I am thrilled that my child is not only learning martial arts, but also speaking/listening skills, important safety and health routines and how to be a kind and respectful citizen. I highly recommend the Little Leaders program!

Macons Martial Arts discriminated against my child with behavioral and mental health disabilities. When I enrolled my child in classes I was up front about my child having been diagnosed with disabilities which include O.D.D with hyperkenetic syndrome, A.D.H.D, learning disabilities and developmental delays. I shared his symptoms and triggers with the instructor. He enjoyed class and participated without incident for about 3 months. Then one evening the air conditioning in class was not working. My son was hot, tired and a little agitated. When asked a question during group activity he rolled his eyes The instructor humiliated him and made him cry by being very rude and calling him out in front of other students and parents. Despite apologizing and no prior unacceptable behavior, my son was not allowed to participate for the remainder of the class. I was asked to meet with the instructor after class. When I did, she stated my sons behavior was not acceptable nor appropriate. I reminded her that being hot and tired are triggers for my son and due to his disabilities he often reacts differently than others might when in the same situation. An appropriate reaction to his behavior would have been to allow him a short break for a drink of water and to cool down a bit. I was told if students with actual, real, physical, disabilities could participate without complaining then my son should be able to do the same. Due to the lack of respect and understanding of my child disabilities, I informed the instructor Id be withdrawing my child from class. I instructed payments were to no longer be deducted from my debit account. Despite requesting stop payments (several times) as well as no longer coming to class, they fraudulently charged my debit card for 2 more months.

I have a disability and was not sure if I could even attempt karate. They make modifications for me and I am really enjoying the other students and not only fun, but I have built up my confident level in self protection. It is a great workout also. I attend the Burlington location in the Mall near Sears. The instructors and very knowledgeable and friendly. They teach various Karate classes and the owner comes and teaches as well.Come and join as a family or individually, you will not be disappointed. 🥋🙂

My family has been with Macons Martial Arts for almost 4 years. Since joining, i finished my degree, my military education requirements and my son has progressed to math and reading AG. We have learned how to improve our goal setting and how to accomplish them. Also knowing we are Black belts my son has a great reputation at school for being respectful, courteous, and focused. Many times SrMaster Patrick Macon has traveled almost 60 miles to provide special training just for me to help me accomplish my goal to be an instructor. Thank you Macons Martial Arts.

We truly enjoy having our boys in this karate program. They have exceeded our expectations throughout their time at Macon’s Martial Arts in Burlington. I love the curriculum used because not only does it teach karate techniques, but it also teaches the students life skills with an emphasis on goal setting and self discipline.

Started off with my middle son (6) attending a class for free, signed him up for a trial and he brought his older brother (9) as his guest. Now my daughter (5) is in class with them and so am I. Its been wonderful taking on such a challenge as a family, and my kids really enjoy outranking me in something. Each of my children are getting something different out of classes- self assertion, confidence, discipline, time management. We attend at the High Point location.

EDIT 5/20/18 Received a call from Mrs. Sharon and she apologized for the inconvenience and stated we have received a full credit for their clerical error. I appreciate someone following up with us. We are changing our 1 star to 3 Star simply because they did call and apologized for the mistake and will be refunding. We weren’t planning on leaving a review, but after this company fraudulently charged our card I wouldn’t hesitate! We canceled our membership for both our kids back in March. We were not pleased with the program after 2 weeks and our kids dreaded going. After the first class we noticed the instructor (Sharon) would solicit myself and other parents into spending more money on merchandise or classes. It felt like their goal was to bring in money instead of teaching our kids, so we canceled with them March 20th. We recently checked our accounts and noticed that they have charged us $200 every month since March. I sent emails, text and even a phone call to the owner of Macon’s (Patrick Macon) with no response from anyone in regards to our cancelation and being charged for our canceled membership. I have never seen such an unorganized and unprofessional business! Clearly you need to evaluate your policies and procedures (especially for the High Point location.) Luckily, our bank has refunded our $400 and will be pursuing your company. If you’re looking to enrolling in Martial Arts save yourself the headache and do not go here! I wish I would’ve read the reviews for this location prior to giving them my credit card information! What a scam!!

I started by getting my son the Karate for Christmas package deal. Then I thought it would be a wonderful extracurricular activity for my 7 year old. However, I was wrong! It ended up being an amazing activity for our family! I started my oldest in the basic program so that he could earn confidence, self discipline, and self defense. Since then he has most certainly gained those qualities! I was especially blown away by the self defense that he has learned. It has been amazing to see the positive change that it has made in his life!Shortly after I had bought the Karate for Christmas for my oldest, I learned that they had a program for my youngest as well! He is 4 years old and at the time I was looking for something to get him into as well. There isnt much out for kids his age, but this turned out to be the PERFECT thing! Since starting I can see the change that it is making in my little ones life. Yes Maam, is a common term used in our house now! The respect he shows to others is amazing as well. He always looks forward to coming to class and doing the fun exercises with his fellow classmates. While going to their regular classes I kept hearing more and more about their Krav Maga and Kickboxing program. With time I decided to give it a try, and when I did I found my new passion! I now attend both classes and have most certainly seen the difference between going to the two of them. The way they have the classes scheduled is perfect for me because my youngest has his first class, and during my oldest class, I am able to do my kickboxing. I recently received my yellow belt in Krav Maga and look forward to moving up the ranks as I get better.I give them 5 stars because of the quality of customer service they give. The sense of knowing your child will be well taken care of while there. Also, just knowing that when you walk into in there is a sense of family.

My daughter was offered a free introductory class so we signed her up and she was so excited. We were about 80% sure we were going to enroll her after her free class but of course wanted to make sure she loved it. We scheduled a date and time with mr. Mcneil and told him our daughter is 4 years old. He called us the day before her class and said he needed to reschedule, sure no problem i said. We rescheduled for the following wednesday. On tuesday I recieved a video message from a lady instructor telling about our upcoming class and also reminding us. The day of the class i recieved 3 text messages reminding me of appointment and letting us know we could arrive early and check out the school if we would like. I also had a voicemail from mr. Mcneil himself stating the same things. We arrive at the school at 545, class was at 6. We were there about 10 minutes and a young man informed me there is no class for my daughter today and we could simply come back tomorrow.I have 3 children. I have to plan things and with sports and other activites and finding a sitter for my 1 year old i can not simply come back tomorrow ... Sounds to me like Macons Martial Arts need to learn some discipline themselves. I can guarantee my children will never take classes from them and i will most certainly share my experience with others.
