Our daughter transitioned to Omega middle school in 7th grade. She really enjoys the school and is thriving academically. The AM centering every morning has allowed her to focus for the day so she no longer requires medication. The teachers are amazing and so caring! The small classrooms have been fantastic for her. Omega has been a very positive transition without the middle school drama we hear that can exist elsewhere.

My childrens experience at Rainbow has been very positive! Our family values and participates in the community, supports the teachers and staff and enjoys the support of the school in return. My middle school children are academically on track for their coming high school years and that feels great. No school is perfect, but we find Rainbow to be a great fit for our family. We value love of learning, spiritual development, social awareness. I appreciate Rainbows approach to the whole child very much.

Rainbow is AWESOME!Our daughter loves everything about her day in Kindergarten, especially her 2 loving teachers.More importantly our family is happy to join the amazing community and staff in educating and inspiring our young ones.In a world of uncertainty and sadly great peril, Rainbow is a bright, loving, joyful place, where every child is loved unconditionally. More importantly they given the skills and confidence they need to change the world for the better for all of us.

Rainbow is a school where mistakes are embraced as learning experiences held with compassion by skilled and heartful educators. My daughter has been here since Kindergarten and is now in 3rd grade. I am amazed as a parent and a teacher how dedicated the whole staff is at ensuring the well being of each child- each whole child. Rainbow is a place for acceptance, unconditional love and hope for the future. I wish I could have gone here as a child!

Rainbow has been truly transformational for our 4-year-old daughter. We have watched her blossom and come into herself so beautifully in the two years she has spent in the Blue Door preschool room. I always dreamed of finding a school for our children that would encourage their growth spiritually as well as mentally, physically, and emotionally. Rainbow has truly shown me what is possible in education, and we could not be more grateful for their holistic approach, their kind and open hearts, and their deep honoring of the essence of who our daughter is. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Our daughter recently said, The teachers are fun and amazing, I cant wait to go to school everyday. (3rd grade graduate). Rainbow Community School fosters the love of learning in our daughter and embraces a holistic and whole-child approach to learning and teaching. The Seven Domains broaden her experience and deepen her connection to her cognitive, spiritual, natural, and creative sides. We love it too as parents! Community-focused inside and within West Asheville.

Enroll your child at your own risk because if you do, you will be going through the looking glass, and eventually you will find yourself down a deep, dark rabbit hole. Rainbow Community School is the complete opposite of everything they sincerely and passionately purport to be. The mission and vision, the visuals, the new agey vibe are all designed to hook you, the vulnerable parent desiring only the best for your child. You think your child will be in a beautiful rainbow school, enveloped and held by all the ideals missing from our society and culture in this place and time. Indeed, the community will welcome you with kind smiles and a warm, loving embrace as long as you dont question anything, as long as you tow the line. However, if you question anything of value or importance, you will be castigated and made an outcast. The administration and most of the teachers claim fervent interest in nurturing and educating your child holistically; rather they are interested in protecting their image, and promoting the phony Rainbow school credo to schools around the country. The academics are below average. In fact, some of the people working at the school are not even properly qualified to teach or to counsel. The higher ups will tell you not to worry about academics, because later on your student will catch up in middle school, but this is not true. It is the lure to keep you carrying on through the grades blithely towing the line. Rainbow Community School is a wonderful place for your child if he or she is a bully, or has behavioral issues, because the school favors and protects a perpetrator. So definitely send your child here if he or she has behavioral issues, but steer clear if your child is well balanced and/or kind. Steer clear if you seek good academics. Steer clear if you seek what their mission states (because remember the Rainbow Community School world is a looking glass world). Maybe once forty years ago, in a different time and place, Rainbow Community School was a wonderful school for children, but that was then and this is now.

Wonderful community and fantastic teachers. Our son blossomed here and gained a valuable foundation in understanding his inner self and learning to have empathy with others. We miss Rainbow but are grateful for the two years we were blessed by it!

I love their philosophy, their approach to education, the loving community, and for allowing people to be who they are. Using the 7 Domains, they approach teaching from a whole child perspective and incorporate mindfulness, thereby giving students the tools necessary to not only thrive but to do their part in creating a sustainable world.

My rising 6th grade daughter has attended Rainbow Community School since 3rd grade and loves it. At the end of each year she declares, This was the best school year ever. The middle school years can be a difficult time for children, but by using the 7 Domains, Rainbows whole child approach to learning, each student feels understood, challenged, and inspired to do their best work. Im confident that shell feel this year has been the best year ever...........again.The teachers/staff are wonderful. Their professionalism, enthusiasm, dedication, and caring for each child in their charge comes through loud and clear. Im so grateful my child has the opportunity to attend RCS. Finding this school has been a gift to our whole family.

Rainbow seemed like a school with an environment that would allow my great niece to be herself. Her situation was unusual, and not attending school had been a problem. This began reoccurring, I was assured that they would help to get her back on track. Rainbow continued to participate in the negligence of this child, and she was asked to leave six weeks prior to graduation. I found the executive director to be unaccountable. Our last communication was to be a letter that I never received. My request to speak with the board of directors was ignored. She has many roles, and the salesperson role seems to be her priority. Rainbow wants to prepare leaders in building a compassionate world and a model community. It failed in this regard. It failed this child and it failed her classmates. She learned that even here she was expendable. The future leaders learned that neglect is acceptable and any problem is easy to fix: just throw it out the back door and lock it.

The admissions process is an absolute farce. I was contacted immediately for an initial meeting and was told that there was a slim chance that there would be availability for my son. Which is fine. However, I was also told that my son would go on the wait list as opportunities do arise all the way through the start of the school year. The process involves a meeting with the admissions officer, a tour of the school ( which was great) the submission of transcripts, and a teacher reccomendation( which were submitted) followed by a 2 day shadow for the student at the school. The admisssions officer had no problem in scheduling the meeting with me, she texted me and gave me the tour, took the check for $75 and then disappeared.I had to call to follow up and learn that they were still awaiting transcripts before a shadow day would be scheduled. I promptly submitted and then again, crickets. After contacting her the third time I got an email stating that the grades were full and there would be no room for my son. No scheduling of a shadow day. No wait list. Nothing. If my son was not good enough to be considered for the school, then be upfront and say so. Don’t have a process you don’t follow. Don’t take people’s money and waste our time.I appreciate the fact that other schools in the area were candid with me and upfront about the chances. And didn’t waste my time and money in the process.I understand that the academia and facility of rainbow community school is exceptional. That is why I wanted my son there. I felt that it would be a good fit. I was willing to pay and didnt need financial assistance. I however feel marginalized by the admission process. And regardless of how great the admission officer may have been with others, which I am sure is the case, she handled me poorly, with a lack of candor and transparency and I am deeply disappointed by the experience.

My daughter Gracie attended Rainbow Community School during Summer 2016. We were counting down the days until she turned 3 years old, so she could attend this school! I researched a ton of schools and had Gracie in two different schools prior to RCS.We were not disappointed. The teachers are extremely caring and professional. They do a lovely job balancing experiential play and learning. The outdoor classroom area is amazing. My daughter had no problem transitioning to this school and loved it! She would talk about her day, her friendships and relationships with her teacher.I have high standards and am a former teacher myself and I was so impressed with RCS. My daughter learned social skills, manners, environmental consciousness, yoga, preschool concepts and was just so in love with this school. The best thing was that it nurtured her sense of curiosity and love of learning. Its the kind of school that if you hang out for a few minutes, you as a parent can learn a few things from how the teachers handle different interactions.I live in Raleigh now and I miss RCS a lot. It was truly special.

Both of my daughters attend Rainbow. My elder daughter went to preschool at Waldorf, then an authentic Montessori school (both before we moved to Asheville) and then we discovered Rainbow. We loved aspects of Waldorf and Montesorri, but neither filled all of the needs of our daughter. Rainbow seems to take the best parts from both of these methods plus others to create a holistic, child-centered approach to education. She is starting her third year at Rainbow this year and is extremely excited. I am constantly impressed with information that she shares with me that she’s learned in class. Our youngest daughter is starting her second year of preschool this year. We love her teachers and the care, guidance and tenderness they show her. She is learning lots of “regular” school things like letters and numbers, but there is also lots of time for playing, creating and exploring. The school is growing, enrollment is up – and all of that makes for some bumps along the way. There have been changes to the preschool and school, and it seems as if it is settling into a new era. From our experiences at Waldorf and Montesorri, I can say, a school may be great (both of them were), but the school may not be great for a certain child. Luckily, we found Rainbow and it is perfect for our children.
