Ive checked out a few gyms over the years and this one is the only one Ive felt comfortable and welcome in. Bobby is a great teacher and is very encouraging. I appreciate that Ive never been the only small bodied person at a class and have the ability to choose to roll with people who are also under 120lb or who are double+ my weight. Wonderful space and people!

My son and I traveled up for a seminar hosted by open source. I will admit, the place is a little strange outwardly if you are used to strip mall gyms. However, upon training with the team there, everyone was super friendly and the quality of instruction was at or above any other place I have trained. The pay as you go feature is super cool as many the bjj there isnt about rampant commercialism, its about the bjj. Great place, would recommend to anyone.

Amazing experience from beginning to end. Bobby at Open Source was extremely friendly and accommodating. He is true professional and warrior in every aspect of the game. He truly cares about the details and will push you to become a version of yourself and he was very encouraging the whole through. I highly recommend Open Source whether you want to begin you BJJ journey or stopping out of town. Thanks guy, I will be back.

Incredible kids classes at Open Source. My 7 year old and 12 year old have learned so many things in a short time and have lots of fun while doing it. I highly recommend these classes which are taught by kind, helpful and knowledgeable instructors. Give them a try!

The training mats are clean and comfortable. The staff is friendly and down to earth. The instruction is informative, comprehensive. The hands on instruction is followed by drilling, then rolling. Regardless the size or skill level everyone gets some one on one mat time with an instructor rolling. These sessions, whether with another student or instructor are always safe, ego free and a lot of fun. Whether your goal is physical fitness, competition or self defense I highly recommend coming to check them out at Open Source.

This is a fantastic place to learn. The whole community there is warm and welcoming, the instructors are helpful and relaxed with no ego involved in the lessons. The students are made up of a diverse, friendly and often rotating crowd. The workout is as hard as you want to make it and sparring partners are respectful and willing to match skill/effort levels. Clean and well lit, plenty of fresh air on warmer days, affordable pricing structure. Ive recommended this place to my friends and cant say enough good things about it.

I am so happy to have found this place as my new jiu jitsu home. What a wonderful training environment and community. The mission of the owners to create an open and supportive community in which learning is prioritized over profit and egos never get in the way of expansion, creates the perfect place to grow as a martial artist. Thank you Bobby and Amanda! I truly appreciate all you do for the community.

Friendly and welcoming to drop-ins. Impeccably clean. They have a sprung floor under the mats which is very gentle to fall on. I had a great experience there and I hope I have the opportunity to train there again.

I usually dont write reviews but I needed to leave a review because of how solid this place is. This is the ideal gym for anyone starting out in BJJ. The culture is very welcoming and open to all walks of life. Bobby and Kyle are exceptional instructors and really good at breaking down the fundamentals/answering specific questions. The classes and culture are a perfect blend of laid back yet structured. The best part is this gym is crazy affordable! If money is tight, you wont find a better deal in the area.I moved out of state and its a toss up what I miss more, my family or OSJJ :) . Next time I visit, Ill definitely be dropping in and hope to see you there!

I went to the Fundamentals Class last night as a newbie, and I was so welcomed. I could feel radical inclusion from Amanda as soon as I walked in the door. I was in my head a lot and she kindly but firmly guided me through the evening so I wasnt overwelmed by the 15+ students who showed up for the Gi class. I thought it was awesome turn out, but alot for me at first but it felt like we were all friends in the end. I appreciated how much everyone wanted to learn from each other and it felt like a no ego zone. I got personal from both instructors it was simple to follow and easy to understand, when words didnt describe the lesson they were able to clearly show me through there bodies or my body. They were patient, but I also look forward to being challenged physically and mentally as I spend more time developing my Martial Arts practice. I learned so much I felt so welcomed I bought a 10 class pass. I will be returning soon! I am really excited to have found a non intimidating space, oh! There were also 3 other women! YAY!!

Im currently traveling and training long-term, I was visiting Asheville for several weeks, and trained here every day. One of the best gyms, if not the best gym I have been to! I have been to many gyms, and this has been my favorite one so far. :)They have a great, welcoming atmosphere, and the gym is really clean. Seems like a perfect place to start BJJ, as they have a solid fundamentals curriculum. The advanced classes are also great–as a purple belt, I learned a lot. Bobby and Kyle are both very competent teachers and quite different in style which makes the curriculum even more well rounded. On top of that, they also have a Judo programrun by Kyle (second degree judo black belt) who does a great job in making judo applicable and fun to everyone. What I appreciate so much about this place is that it really lives up to its name:-No affiliations, politics free-Competing is encouraged, but there is absolutely no pressure (so refreshing!)-Fundamentals classes are pay what you can, so BJJ is truly for everyone hereIf you are in the area and dont check this gym out, youre missing out!

As a teacher, I am always internally critiquing the teaching methods of others, regardless of what is being taught. The instruction at Open Source Jiu Jitsu is an optimum setup for learning. The information is relayed in a very comprehensible manner, and the drills and exercises following the instruction are expertly designed to retain the information from the class. In addition to stellar instruction, the equipment is superb. Lastly, but certainly not least, the vibe of Open Source Jiu Jitsu, created by its members, instructors, and gym setup is outstanding as well. These are good people. If you bring a good attitude, you will be welcomed and pushed by the coaches and members alike.
