The instructors here are some of the best in the industry. The class was comprehensive and very well taught. I will definitely be back here to learn from more of the advanced classes. The owners are so nice and accommodating. I made plenty of friends along the way and this is a great school that is worthy of my investment.

Instruction is set at a great pace. We learned a lot in one week’s time thanks to the three instructor’s combined knowledge and patience. I especially appreciated the attention to everyone’s safety regarding Covid-19 protocols. Our temperature was checked each morning, masks were required indoors, we were given breaks each hour to get some “fresh” air without masks. Lastly, each sink has a 20 second timer for proper hand washing. Great team at UBI!

This is a must attend course for those wanting to improve thier knowledge of all things bicycle repair. The course has all the needed tools and instructors who are knowledgeable with years of experience in both workshops and as instructors. Setup is amazing and enough for every student to get hands on training. If you can attend every course that you would require you wont regret it.

A fantastic experience from the first to last moments - Ive never learned so much. Our instructors Jeff, Nathan, and Peter presented the excellent material in a clear and memorable way. You will get an unbelievably comprehensive and immersive experience. Many aspects of bicycle repair and maintenance were demystified and I achieved my personal goals through UBI. Our class had students with a very wide variety of bicycle and mechanical experience (from none to working bike mechanics) and everyone commented that they learned something new. I thought that spoke volumes about UBIs material and instructors. What I thought I knew, I now know better and what I didnt know, I feel confident I can accomplish from what I learned. Thanks Denise and the UBI team!

I took the Introduction to Bicycle Maintenance class. It was a week of solid hands-on learning. I got to work on my own old bike and on the shops much more modern bikes. There were three on offer -- road, cyclocross, and full-suspension mountain -- and they covered all the ways that bikes have changed over the past 10 years or so. The roadie is the default choice but you get to pick based on your own interests and what bikes you might have at home. Every instructor is a rider, mechanic and bike historian in one. I had a great time.

The Professional Repair and Shop Operation course was stellar. The instructors leveraged a unique mix of technical expertise combined with real world experience to tailor instruction and demonstration to meet the individual needs of a diverse student body. Lesson plans were concise and accurate. The behind the scenes preparation and administration were so well executed that they went practically unnoticed, which itself is a monumental accomplishment considering the unique challenges presented by delivering the course during the COVID pandemic. I highly recommend this course.

The week I spent at UBI was one of the most informative and enjoyable Ive had. Denise was a joy to talk to and handled the business issues and our requests with a smile. The instructors were very professional and delivered their lectures with humor and an understanding of bikes that showed their years of experience. They never talked down to us and always helped us understand the concepts with personal anecdotes and specific examples. I especially enjoyed the hands-on work and learned more than I thought possible in 40 hours of instruction. It was in these sessions that the instructors--Jeff, Nathan, and Peter--really excelled, as they were able to determine each of the students individual needs. I hope to take the next level class as soon as I have the time. UBI has my highest recommendation.

I cant say enough about this place. Definitely worth a look, and seeing people from different parts of the States with a singular interest is inspiring. While youre here take a look at the hospitality options as there are some really good ones (I stayed at the Columbia/Palm option and have no regrets). The staff at the bike school also has loads of information about the area (like trails, sites, etc), and are very friendly, helpful, and respectful/mindful of how to be Covid-conscious (which is very much appreciated regardless of ones own opinions regarding the matter).Great Place all around.

It was jam-packed with content (from theory to practical hands-on) as well as taught by the most helpful of instructors - with differing teaching styles to meet various learners (kinesthetic, audible, visual, etc). The owners were supportive outside of classroom time & helped us fill our weekend in between the 2-week course. AND LGBTQIA+ friendly! Highly recommend!

I really enjoyed my time at UBI.If youre new to working on your bicycle and have the means this is the place for you. Youre not going to walk away being a perfect mechanic or with a bunch of new mechanical aptitude, but youre going to have a great foundation to start something new.All the instructors are completely patient and give you their complete attention. The amount of time they spent with me on hub adjustments was crazy.Having a work bench and having all the tools handy was a game changer, and having a person watching over me and guiding me but also letting me do the work was huge.I attended in October of 2020 and they were completely Covid Compliant. You will feel safe here and learn a lot.

There are so many positive things about UBI that it’s difficult to keep myself from writing an entire chapter on the subject.First thing’s first, if you’ve been waiting or are trying to decide if it makes sense for you to enroll in the Professional Repair and Shop Operation class, think no more. Do it. This is an incredibly in-depth program that includes everything from the history of bicycle engineering and development, to industry trends, to extensive hands-on mechanical instruction. There is something here for anyone, no matter if you’ve worked in a shop for years or have never changed a flat tire in your life.UBI delivered on everything they advertised on their website. Frankly, they exceeded my expectations in almost every area. This is a world class institution dedicated to teaching students everything they can about the inner workings of bikes, repairing and maintaining bikes, and what it takes to operate a professional shop.Jeff and Nathan are both phenomenal instructors. With nearly 30 years of teaching experience between them, as well as decades of experience in the bike industry prior to coming to UBI, their lectures are well thought out, well presented, and engaging. Both Jeff and Nathan understand that not everyone learns in the same manner and they demonstrate this by willingly answering questions and demonstrating best practices in multiple ways. They are both very professional and treated everyone in the class equally and with respect and courtesy throughout the duration of the course. I really can’t say enough about how fantastic both Jeff and Nathan are at instructing and creating a positive environment that supports all types of learning styles.I also have to mention Denise. She’s just a joy to work with. She is dedicated to customer service and making sure students have all of the information they need before and during their time at UBI.Also, make sure to bring your bike. Ashland has some of the most amazing gravel and mountain biking trails just outside of town. The weekend rides were epic! Even if you have to fly into Medford, I highly recommend packing up your bike and traveling with it. I guarantee that it’s absolutely worth the hassle.

I went into the two-week shop management class with 47 years of DIY experience and no formal training in bicycle mechanics. This workshop filled so many holes in my scattered range of experience, and gave me a very strong foundation to work from when going back to the Bicycle Collective where I work. If you are interested in gaining broad comprehensive training in being a bicycle mechanic, then this program is right for you and well worth the fee.

The owners, Ron and Denise are so engaged to insure you receive the best education possible. The instructors, Jeff (almost 40 years experience) and Nathan (12 years with UBI as an instructor) delivered a well organized step-by-step description about the repair, walked around to show you the specific part, so you get have a visual of what they were wanting to explain. They worked on the bikes right in front of you. Trust me, they do not leave anything out. Just be patient and let them complete their delivery. They won’t leave anything out. Then, you have the workbook that gives you the written detailed step-by-step for you to use in class and to take with you. You get the verbal, visual and hands on experience. You will leave the class confident to remove and replace you bicycle parts. I cannot leave out Casey who along with the instructors were their to help answer any questions and advice during the hands on part of the class.I recommend you bring you own bike. Check to see if they have the parts you are wanting to change out. That or bring you own like I did.NOW, register and do not miss this great opportunity!

Thoroughly enjoyed my time at UBI. Spent 5 weeks attending the Pro Mechanics, Advanced Wheel/Suspension, and the Brazed Steel Frame building courses. I came to UBI a complete beginner with no experience at all, so everything was new to me, at least from a hands on perspective. The instructors worked very hard to ensure that no one fell behind, each one coming to class everyday with a willingness to help in anyway needed to complete the days assignments. Most importantly, they made sure that we understood the material before moving on to the next topic or task, and provided time for our questions if we didnt. I cant thank the owners and teachers enough for the experiences and support I received while attending UBI. Attending this school was one of the best decisions Ive made in a long time.

UBI is AMAZING!!!! Id only been working on bikes for less than a year and barely knew how to hold a wrench when I started. By the end of the two weeks for the repair technician seminar, I felt confident working on a bike without help for the first time! The instructors were friendly, helpful, informative, and exceptionally professional. Every time I didnt understand something, or needed help, someone was always there to guide me without having to hold my hand. They knew exactly how to teach the basics so I could learn how to work on a bike independently. UBI became my family away from home while I was in Ashland and I miss going to class every day. Ever since coming home, I cant help but to be excited and think to myself, I can fix that! every time I see a wobbly bike on the street. My time spent at UBI was the golden highlight of 2020 for me, and the money I spent to attend UBI, and live in Ashland during the class, was the best money I have ever spent in my life!! UBI Bike School was truly a game changer for me. I am so grateful that I was able to attend their incredible class, Intro To Bicycle Maintenance. The UBI Instructors were all highly skilled professionals. Across the board, they were friendly, focused, patient, and invested in helping me learn, despite the fact that I had zero prior mechanical experience. The classroom itself was spotless and the school was extremely COVID-compliant. Plexiglass partitions divided each students desk, and all work surfaces and tools were wiped down daily with alcohol. I felt really safe there. UBI takes bike education, and COVID, seriously. I was so inspired by the Intro Mechanics class that I bought my own workbench and tools for home use. I am now busy wrenching on my own, and am happily no longer intimidated by my road or mountain bike. I also really enjoyed my classmates at UBI who came from all over the U.S. I cant wait to return to UBI to take future classes. I highly recommend it.
