I was there 2010-2012, some real good memory there, I just want to tell whoever is planning to go there, they care about you or your children, no matter what is your religion, as long as you are able to communicate, they care about you, and you can solve your difference with them and find your place.

Beautiful campus. Beautiful lighted football and baseball fields. Students are placed in one of four houses that help younger students bond with older students.

My freshman and sophomore years at Maur Hill-Mount Academy have left me completely unprepared for college. This establishment has a history of showing favoritism towards ‘legacy’ students that excel in physical activities rather than academics; the same extreme exploitation is shown towards boarding students to display the ‘diversity’ this school clearly does not have. Afterwards, the same boarding students would be completely ignored by teachers. Most importantly, the academics at this school are not beneficial, especially at the high price that is offered. I have been to public schools that have offered more rigorous AP and Honors classes. This school is a horrible investment of hard-earned money and time. As a Christian, I realize that being surrounded by religion is important, but the faculty and staff at this school are far from being religious examples, the only things they seem to value are money and the school’s physical appearance. On an ethical note, this school has displayed obvious homophobia -- they even teach homophobia in the classrooms. I understand that homophobia is preached in the bible, but so is the fact that God was the only one that can judge others (1 Corinthians 4:4, My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me). Many students who aren’t praised for their overhyped sports ability often feel degraded and almost segregated from the rest of the school. The ‘outcasts’ do not receive the same attention from teachers, and they are more likely to receive the same quality of education. Maur Hill-Mount Academy values ideas from the 1950’s -- the ‘nice Catholic boy’ and the ‘pious Catholic girl’. I personally find this favored stereotype ironic because the students that are praised are the same students that are infamous for getting wasted at parties, being extreme narcissists, and segregating others that do not follow their agenda, which I am pretty sure are not Catholic values.Transferring to a new school made me realize that I did not have the proper study habits, mindset, nor actual intelligence to succeed. My junior year at my new school was a massive game of catch-up. My ACT/SAT scores were extremely low for my age and I was not well-read in works such as Beowulf, The Iliad, Inferno, and other known classics that are requirement at my school. Just like English, my other subjects were lacking in skill which I needed to succeed for my life. I would consider myself a good student, I work extremely hard for the grades that I have, and I study often. I was shocked at how low my intellect was compared to others at my new school. Since Maur Hill-Mount Academy is a college preparatory school, I figured that it would prepare me for college, yet it could not even decently prepare me for high school. This school has never given me any credit for my positive actions. Even in my early years of high school, I took classes that were at least a year ahead of my peers, and I was still just as devoted to my academics as I am now. I have always put extra dedication on classroom assignments, presentations, and projects. However, the ‘sporty’ kids that performed terribly or average were applauded by the staff on how they were a great addition to the classroom. This does not just happen me, this happens to my other friends as well. One of my friends received the highest test scores out of her class, and her teacher told her how he was shocked that she received the grade opposed to someone else. This is absolutely not the treatment that teachers should give their students, and yet it is still going on.The only thing that Maur-Hill Mount Academy does well is showing constant devotion to Christ, we have Mass every Wednesday, and our days were always filled with prayer. Hypocritical or not, after attending Maur-Hill I have felt closer to Christ and my religion than previous Catholic schools that I have attended.
