I have to say this is one of the best karate schools around. I can not say enough about the staff, they are awesome! From Bridget in the office who is very sweet and welcoming and will help you with all your needs to the instructors who will do everything and anything to make your child feel comfortable. They dont treat you like your just a student, you are family to them! My son who was 7 when he started, had severe separation anxiety. He would not leave my side and struggled in school because of it. In less then a few months of taking karate here he showed great improvement. I couldnt have chosen a better place. Give them a try, you definitely wont be disappointed!

Buzz Durkins karate school is awesome. My son has been going there for several years and is up to his black belt level. Everyone there is super friendly and helpful. It feels like a karate family instead of a business. The instructors have just the right mix of making sure the students are having fun but still seriously learning. I would highly recommend them.

Ive grown up in the martial arts world, and Ive been to plenty of schools and have been going to Buzz Durkins since (And still) I was a child. No school have I gone to compares to the caring and professionalism to Durkins karate. Keep up the great work, and heres to another 40 years!

I studied that Buzz Durkins Karate school for two years. The school is one of the best. Bridget in the office will help you with anything that you need and instructors who are flexible and will to put in the time with each student. I never felt more comfortable going into a studio. You are not only a student but you are considered family. They take the time to get to know each student and their families. When my parents come to the studio they are personally great by name by Mr. Durkin which is sort of a rare thing these days. Once life settles down and circumstances change Im hoping to continue my training.

We took my son here to help him develop self confidence. Weve had a wonderful experience. The teachers have infinite patience. They seem to have a great deal of experience and compassion for kiddos who need some extra support. The staff, especially Bridget, do an amazing job creating a sense of community. Everyone greets and treats you with such warmth and respect. Marcus, Mr Stickney, Mr Leith, and all of the junior trainers - incredible! Truly a holistic approach to teaching self discipline and self respect.

Wonderful life changing venue that has enriched our sons life immeasurably at home, in school and with friends. The staff focuses on each child personally and provides individual instruction as needed. The personal growth our son has made in just one year has been dramatic!!

Besides the physical regiment in training, Buzz Durkin’s promotes mental growth, politeness, being respectful, thoughtfulness, confidence and friendship through their student creedes and leading by example. The instructors have an amazing intuition when a student may need a little extra attention and are always willing to spend the extra time supporting their needs. The dojo also holds great events throughout the year promoting lasting friendships. I recently returned to training after a five year hiatus when my teachers school closed. I had many doubts and a few insecurities about it. I am older now. Everything hurts when I train! I am overweight. I am SO stiff, I get tired after only 20 minutes. I dont know many people here. Its a little embarrassing to admit, but those kinds of doubts are part of human nature, I guess.The entire staff at the school has been persistently encouraging to me. They clearly understand peoples’ needs and how to get somebody like me back on track. Something that comes through with each staff member is sincerity and a warm heart. They really seem to care about each student’s progress and take pride in the results of their own hard work, individually, and as a team.Since returning to training, in just a few short months I have found that, miraculously, many of my medical conditions have improved or vanished! I developed fallen arches just this past year, and the medical advice is to wear supportive shoes, and stay off your feet - so I was concerned about training barefooted. My feet hardly ever hurt anymore, and I believe it is because my feet muscles have become stronger from the exercises that we do.I have had intermittent lower back issues for many years, yet I have found since consistently training at the school, I have had zero pain or stiffness. I attribute this to the core strength and flexibility developed in the training.I also have been amazed at the level of energy I have now. I am more active and enthusiastic about DOING things, all kinds of things, outside of the dojo. I recently went ten pin bowling for 2 HOURS, and everybody else in the party, including teenagers, were complaining of fatigue, but I was raring to go, and enjoyed myself the entire time!Finally, I would like to mention my fellow students at the school. BDKS is a large martial arts school. The depth and breadth of experience there is one of the most powerful aspects of training. The seniors are incredibly friendly and helpful – always coming right up and introducing themselves when they realize they do not recognize a new face, eager to make you feel welcome – and of course to help you develop. The junior students are no different! I am amazed to see how confident and enthusiastic the junior students are. It’s easy to be confident and enthusiastic when you are accomplished at something – but to feel that way and act that way when you are starting out is no small feat. I find myself genuinely looking forward to seeing my peers at the school, not just looking forward to accomplishing my own training goals for the class, and that has really enhanced the overall experience for me.I have found that my martial experience is better than ever, even though it is not the same, it has just gotten better with age. I really never thought that I would be able to say that, because training at my old school was the best experience of my life. What I experienced nearly 25 years ago has happened all over again. Im been going here sincevibwas 5 years old and its an amazing place to be Bridget as my big sister from there and she amazing when my son gets older we will putting him in there this is the only place we will go to karata because it amazing

The students are attentive and receptive to the methods and thoughts of the teachers; students strive to understand the workings of Uechi Ryu and its history. I studied with Sensei Durkin many years ago. Mark my words, there is no better school on the planet. I use everything I learned in the dojo every single day. The self defense part was a nice addition for building character and confidence, but what you learn here goes way beyond blocking and striking. It becomes part of your DNA and when you truly grasp the mind/body/spirit concepts they teach, the sky becomes the limit on what you may achieve in life. When I am down and out, I still hear Senseis voice in my head you can always do better than you think you can. Such a simple saying, but incredibly powerful when you start to really understand it. If I didnt have to work 80 hr work weeks, Id be back furthering my Uechi education. Simply put, the teachers and the dojo are top notch. If you are serious about karate, this is the place to be.
