I had children at Dakota Valley for 5 years & we LOVED it! Great staff, great administration, tons of extra activities offered &, after we moved, my children were academically ahead of their peers. No complaints!

Firing Della Curry for providing a first grader a free lunch and a overall total of 20 for the year she worked there is totally insane. You throw away food daily. Why let it go to waste when it could go to the children. Does the staff pay for their lunch if they eat in the cafeteria? Better yet does the staff eat a cheese sandwich and get a milk?Prisoners in the jail system eat better than a milk and cheese sandwich.Your school and school district should be ashamed for the action done to Della Curry. She is a hero and should be treated as such. Schools are supposed to be teaching kids for their future. She showed compassion and caring and thats what kids need to learn these days.Appears that the administration of the school district forgot that along the way.

FAIL!!! I saw you fired an employee for feeding a hungry first grader. It seems you have a process to fire employees if they have empathy for a hungry child but no room in your bureaucracy for figuring out how to provide food for obviously hungry children. If a child does not have a lunch an adult in their life failed. If a school does not have the flexibility to help the child get a simple lunch, the school fails. I also saw the explanation on your website, blaming it on your food service policies. I does not matter which department in a company screws up, the RESULTS are still the goal. Cherry Creek SD and Dakota Fail together. Shame on all involved.Crystal

I do not have children in this school. Though I am speaking out for the amazing person that lost her job for feeding a hungry child. She is a hero in my eyes. What are you people thinking?? I honestly thought that schools were suppose to protect children from harm and if you think that letting a child go hungry is not harmful than you are in the wrong profession. You call it policy, I call it IGNORANCE..

This school fired an employee because she gave food to a hungry child. Had she not given the food, it would have been thrown out.The district claims they are following policy; they might be; however, they have a choice in how to implement their progressive discipline.Wouldnt it make sense to look at the bigger problem? Students are attending their schools and they are hungry... the problem isnt a near minimum wage employee giving out food that is going to be tossed.Shame on you Dakota Valley Elementary School Administration for not backing your employees!

It is not only disgraceful that the dreaded bureaucrats disguised as teaching staff can have the same attitude towards their school children as Mr Bumble, the overseer in the poorhouse in Oliver Twist but judging by the photo of the principal Cheryl Fullmer she also shares the same looks as Mr Bumble. VERY WELL FED! I bet she does not have to rely on cheese sandwiches if she is hungry which is probably very seldom indeed.

I went to this school, and while it has its imperfections, it really helped me both academically and mentally. The GT program is proabably one of the best things about this school because the GT coordinater really lets all GT students set their advanced mind free. 5 stars hands down.

It isn’t the best school if we’re being honest. Although I’ve went here for 5 years there were ups and downs.Teachers and faculty:Most teachers are amazing. I found Ms. Reasy, Mrs. Clarke, and Mrs. Dunlap amazing. I’m not so sure about my 4th and 1st grade teacher. Ms. Reasy is a very funny and laid back teacher, and sticks up for girls more than boys. I’m not saying she’s sexist, but it’s just the way she is. I believe she feels as though female can be more than men (since most men I’ve encountered act like they’re the king of America)At first she may come our strict but she isn’t once you get to know her. Mrs. Clarke is very caring and laid back as well. Mrs. Dunlap is laid back and caring as well. For the T.As I found some of them as ones I don’t really like, aside from that they watch you pretty well. For the lunch ladies I didn’t really like one of them. She is pretty rude and stuff. The specials teachers were OK, the gym teacher wasn’t my favorite as he only picked boys to do demonstrations when there are clearly many girls raising their hands. The technology teacher wasn’t the best but he was laid back.Food:The food isn’t amazing. It isn’t that good either, the only thing I could really eat was the pizza since they usually order it. They have snacks and everything but it’s there because they know kids are obsessed with that kind of stuff, and they know that kids will buy it. The fruits and vegetables weren’t good, they used to have mandrians but they got rid of itfor a school like this I’d give it 3 stars out of five, some teachers there were pretty sexist. Some people chose these kids for the coyote call and they didn’t deserve it. I don’t think we need book buddies because it’s a waste of time that we can spend learning

How dare you fire your kitchen manager for providing a free lunch to a starving first grader! Its sick, and youre contributing to the horrors of the public school system thats creating a generations of uncaring, corrupted children by destroying our moral obligation to love and take care of others.

How appalling, that a facility ostensibly constructed to provide care and instruction for children is so heartless, so officious, as to dismiss a kitchen manager for feeding hungry children. Our society would be a far greater place to live if we stopped tolerating the greedy, the selfish and the cruel in this nation. The members of the administration who thought this would be a tolerable course of action should be summarily removed from the system, as they are obviously incapable of performing the fundamental obligations that said system exists to provide, and replaced with individuals who have the capacity to put the children first. If my child were enrolled in this travesty of an institution I would already have removed him/her, and been starting work on a class-action in response to the schools policies, geared to deprive and humiliate impoverished children. Too bad you monsters probably have no capacity for shame remaining.

What a disgraceful thing to do . . . firing your food manager simply because she (guess what?) chose to feed hungry children. Feed the hungry - does that have a familiar ring to it? If you attend church on Sundays, it should.Shame, shame, shame.

My name is jim inkster and live in canada and saw an article in our paper where you fired Della Curry because she gave a free lunch to a first grader who had no money and was hungry and crying. You should be ashamed of yourselfs and resign. I will be sending a copy of this article to michelle obama as she needs to know how your school operates.
