During my tenure at Katlaw , I can confidently Say this is one of the best schools in Georgia, From the value of the 160-hour course ($3400) to The instructors who were great and always offered wise guidance you definitely get what you pay for and more! Everyone here wants to see you do great. A few of the key components for being successful here is to simply follow all of their instructions and to come into the school with the understanding that you have put forth your own effort and have proper self accountability because nobody is going to hold your hand. They give all the tools to be successful and pass your CDL test from the permit to Road . I’d highly recommend this school to anyone !

After being in a training class with students from other schools near and far it was clear that Katlaw students were more knowledgeable and performed better. In a short period of time you learn a lot and the instructors really put forth an effort to help, train and coach you on individual skills. Ms Gwen is awesome and loves to see the students succeed. Gives it to you just like it is!! Overall great instructors. Dee was the best. He’s as patient as patient can be. You’ll love it!!

Ive seen good, bad and great reviews, of course different folks will have their own opinions but I noticed that every opinion that was very good or very bad had a LOT to do with the amount of effort put into the training by the student. Put in a little effort get little to no results, study and pay attention, use your time wisely and you WILL do very well and probably pass the first time through.I studied every night and spent as much time in a truck as I could get. I got to know several of the instructors quite well and really appreciated the amount of time each one was willing to spend with me and their ability to challenge me and I took notice to how much time they spent with some students who were not quite getting some of the maneuvers, not everyone is going to get it right away. Not every one learns the same way. I can say that I took a bit of useful Ideas and help from each instructor, Put it all together and found a style that worked well for me. There some instructors that didnt seem like the hand holding, baby sitting type and at first I thought to myself I really dont see how this is helpful, but as I gave it a chance I ended up spending most of time with those instructors. I didnt see it at first but their style ended up being what worked for me. I feel like they have a wide variety of instructors because there are wide variety of drivers. Find the one that works for you. They are fair, thorough, understanding and they WILL challenge you to do better.PS. One and Done! Passed the DDS 1st time through. They didnt have a shirt Im my size so I got one for my wife. Thank you to everyone at Katlaw but a huge shout out to Jim and Steven.

The instructors at this school were awesome. Mike, Dee, James, Helen, CJ, and Ken all gave me individual gems to help me pass my CDL test ONE and DONE! If u stay positive and listen and apply what they are saying??? U shouldn’t have any problems acquiring your CDL. Listen to Dee and go Pre Trip! Lol and I can hear James telling me to TURN toward my problem. U can ask Mike (the goat) any question... and CJ will keep it real with you no matter what. Helen got me right on my in cab and Air brakes. And Ken taught me some key adjustments on my Parallels. 4 stars only because the equipment could use an update. Other than that I give the instructor crew a cool 6 stars for preparing me to ace my test!

Just listen to them while they teach you the skills that you will need. Have a positive mindset and a open mind to learn allot of new information and you will be ok. Katlaw is an excellent choice for obtaining your CDL license. All of the instructors are experienced truckers who give back to the industry through teaching. In addition, I found both Archie and Ms. Gwen to be both knowledgeable and helpful. Archie successfully prepared us to pass the CDL permit test. Besides being an awesome instructor, Archie is a savvy business man who owned a trucking company and knows the ins and outs of safety and compliance in trucking. Consider yourself lucky if you get him as an instructor. Archie is a man’s man. A trucker’s trucker. A great storyteller. Compassionate. Funny and hilarious. He’s a good person, and a staunch supporter who wants you to win!

Very high failure rate during testing, i failed twice and they took 5 people with me to test both times everyone who went failed also. Even though others may feel like the instructors abandon them which I also have entertained this thought, if you really think about it their not our babysitters. No one will be with you while your taking your test at DDS. Either your going to apply yourself or waste your own time. I happened to be fortunate enough to have a group of young men trying to achieve the same common goals, I’m a jokester but i limited my joking and learned from my incredible instructors. I never driven a truck in the past but now I have my class A cdl license and about to obtain my hazmat.Don’t listen to other students that started with you, both of y’all have the same amount of information. I had no prior knowledge of driving a truck nor did I google search anything prior to attending school at Katlaw. However today I hold A Class A CDL license. The instructors do not hold your hand. We are all grown and capable adults to learn and at the end of the day it is your responsibility to make sure you are mentally ready and humble enough to listen to the direction of another person/instructors. Class started at 7am. I was there at 6am raining or not either under the truck or in the Cab. I didn’t complain because complaining is a energy that wouldnt help me become successful in this new industry. Now let’s address the equipment. Yes, the equipment is not brand new, but think about it. Every week you have new students like I coming to the school messing up transmissions, grinding gears, tearing up steering wheels, and break doors. Grant it, we are new students who don’t know, but that becomes expensive. They have a great diesel mechanic on staff that does his best to keep the trucks working and from my opinion he does a great job. The instructors are all experienced drivers who come from all different background and they all have their own tricks to the trade. Listen to them. listen to all of them. Some Instructors may be alittle bit more impatient then others, however that doesn’t mean you cant learn from them. The katlaw family as whole from my opinion are dope af, and I recommend this school to any and everybody who is looking for a school. Oh and their administrative staff are the dopest people I have ever encountered. Love the humor, I love their vibe, just don’t walk in there like you own the place and respect them and they will return it back to you. At the end of the day you get what you put in. If you’re coming to school everyday nervous, leave the nerves at home. if you are a complainer, leave it at the house. If you think you know everything and want to challenge people then is isnt for you. Be humble, come to school with the right attitude, and you will be successful. By the way. I failed my first test on air breaks, and a week later I retested and passed on Oct 30th 2019.Hopefully I’ll see you in the roadinshallah!

I just completed the class A weekend program at Katlaw and got my license today. The decision to attend training at Katlaw was based upon location in close proximity to my home, mostly positive reviews here online, the warm welcome I received when I visited the office for the first time and the thoroughness and professionalism of Katlaw staff and the well designed website with training aids(videos).Inside and outside of the classroom, instructors take training seriously but encourage students to have fun. Students are treated fairly and as mature adults as they should be not talked to like children as Ive experienced in other walks of life. I believe that a majority of the responsibility to learn the material and retain the knowledge falls to the student. The instructors will help you to better understand a concept of offer advice on different ways to approach obstacles you might be having difficulty with but they will not hold your hand. I can not speak for weekday classes but as for the weekend program, I feel that in general, the training that I received was adequate and I think my one and done testing verdict serves as testimate to that.Of course, there is always room for improvement in anything. Here are three things that I would like to see changed at Katlaw:1) Provide students with better trucks. Nobody expects to train in a new vehicle and it is understandable that those provided for yard training will be in somewhat rough condition. But it would be nice to conduct yard training without being distracted by things that dont work properly.2) Implement much more strict rules for retesters training on the weekend. If a weekday student needs additional training, they should be made to schedule said training on a weekday, no exceptions. Retester weekend students should be limited to absolutely no more than 4 on Saturday and no retesters allowed on Sundays period. The more time they are allotted to train, the more time they steal from current students. Every weekend we had to deal with additional people being added to the roster and that is just frankly completely unfair.3) Have the rest of the training yard paved! I am aware that Katlaw only rents the office and the area behind the Threadmill. But surely there is a way to work out paving the remainder of the yard? Do that and paint some defined lines for practicing skills and it would be a nice training area.Overall, I enjoyed my experience here. Thank you much to the instructors and staff. I would recommend Katlaw to those looking to obtain a CDL.

Instructors are great! equipment leaves a bit to be desired but for good reason, i wouldnt buy brand new trucks to have a bunch of flunkies come in and tear it up. Ladies in the office are wonderful and will help you with anything that they can!

If you are serious about getting your cdl license katlaw is a great place to go. It can be done but you will have to do your part and really study, retain, and learn the work & pay attention. If you find a way to learn and retain the information from a particular instructor, ask that instructor to help you. You may find that you are learning 4 different maneuvers from 4 different instructors cause you understand their way of showing you that particular maneuver (and they all teach different). Retain what works for you and ask them for help for that maneuver. Practice it there, practice it at home on your sofa, at the table, in your car, in your sleep & in the tub. Study & practice is key. An if you significant other isnt complaining or putting you out the room for pretripping or driving a imaginary truck, you are not studying enough lol. Study till you are dreaming about it. Really. It can be one & done. Other pointers when you go test, if you dont feel ready to test on test day go anyway to at least get pretrip and skills out the way. I was very nervous an I just told myself do pretrip and skills so if I made it to driving and messed up I only have driving to worry about the driving test next time. Guess what I made it to driving test the first time and did everything right. I could hear Mr CJ & Mr. Jim in my head telling me watch my curves, how to shift my gears & what to do if I missed a gear & how to turn those crazy curves. You may surprise yourself like I did and make it all the way through the driving part and pass. So dont let your self doubt hold you back definitely if you know you have really applied yourself and studied. Thank you Ms Gwen, Mr CJ, Mr Jim, Ms Dee, Mr Renae, Mr Steve, & Mr Mike.

I just received my class B cdl, and everyone here did a great job instructing me. Mrs. Helen did an awesome job explaining things and helping me remember. Gabby and Sade in the front desk were really helpful and nice. If I decide to get my class A I will be back, and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a cdl.

Katlaw and its staff are the best! My initial introduction to their office and program (great), their assistance in getting enrolled with Ms. Gabby L. (superb), the classroom experience with Mr. Archie Maines (excellent...extremely knowledgeable w/ real life insights...he helped me get my CDL permit, passing all 3 parts on the 1st try), and now Ms. Katie B.s help to get me out on the range/road (fantastic) have all been A-1 experiences!!! I look forward to working with all the great instructors Ive heard so many good things about! I would recommend Katlaw to everyone, just on the classroom experience with Mr. Maines alone!!!!! It cant be beat.....he was funny and super entertaining while delivering very important content!-H. Wright-

This has to be the best school in Ga to go get your CDL at. Got my CDL today ! One and done ! Got some real good people in there. Gabby was very helpful and motivating and she will try her best to work whatever situation you got going on with you. The class room instructor Archie was very cool, had a lot of knowledge to teach and once you get on the yard there is Steve, Mike, and Jim they are the best out there and they really care about you learning the material. Done expect to come in and just magically get your CDL you have to work for it and put in some of your personal time to study. I had an amazing experience here and I would recommend this school to anybody !

I am a soon to be student and female driver. I came into the school a fee months ago to get info and was very excited. While i was there there was a guy walked from the back i felt him staring at me. He was looking at me as if i shouldnt have been there. He then said Do you need something? I told him i was there as a potential student and i was filling out my paperwork. He then said YOU DONT LOOK LIKE A TRUCK DRIVER! and omg from that point he discouraged the hell out of me. I found out he was the OWNER of the school. That is absolutely no way to talk to a student. You shoukd rather encourage all drivers and in no way DISCRIMINATE against a FEMALE TRUCKER. That was very unprofessional of him being in BUSINESS period. I felt so discriminated against. I was supposed to start in December but i told them i couldnt get the money when in fact me being discouraged to start or not go full throttle to get the money had 90% to do with what the OWNER told me to my face. I feel so discouraged at this point and like i cant do it. He left a really bad 1ST IMPRESSION on me and he also talks horribly to some of the employees. I understand youre the BOSS and big KAHUNA or BIG MAN ON THE BLOCK but there is a way you talk to people that want to do BUSINESS WITH YOU after all the students are how you GET YOUR MONEY in the first placeUPDATE:: even the owners response shows how much of an ego he has ... All of his responses are rude on here

I started at Katlaw 7/29 and got my CDL-A 8/29.The staff is awesome and all very helpful, Ms.Gwen is highly knowledgeable and she did an amazing job helping me prepare for my general knowledge test. The instructors on the range are all experienced and very capable. Steven, Jim, and Mike will show you how to perform the driving skills and how to correct any mistakes you make along the way.For anyone reading this with hopes of attending. This is more than meets the eye. Everyone here will work with you to get you to pass your CDL. But you also have to work with them, show up, put in EFFORT, ask questions, practice, and study. Study general knowledge, study pretrip until you know it front, back, and upside down. Practice driving skills and ask questions to things you dont know or how to correct yourself if you get something wrong, everyone here is ready to help.Huge thanks to Ms.Gwen, Steve, Jim and Mike for the knowledge youve passed on to me. Also to Jessica and Bri in the office, for the help with employment forms and for getting my paperwork squared away.

I tested here in 1998, Mr.Larry Quebec tested me back then. Im actually in the process of going back to get my class A again because I was involved in a very bad motorcycle wreck and my license expired during the 3 months I was hospitalized. I didnt think anything about my license during that time because most of it, I was in a coma and when I got out and went home I wasnt able to drive for over a year so I never thought to even check my license, which is my fault completely and my license expired which caused me to have to start all over again. I had no hesitation about where I wanted too go back for my CDL, these people were great to me in 1998, and have been just as gracious helping me now and I look fwd to starting class next Monday hopefully, if not it will be the following Monday! Dont believe some of these nasty reviews, and dont expect to walk in there and just be handed your license either! Put in the work and these people will help you succeed! Thanks for all the help Katlaw! Just and update, I just graduated again on 9-25-19 and once again, Katlaw didnt fail me! The staff are all great people, from Ms.Gabbie,Bree,Jessica in the office, to MS Gwen in the classroom and the instructors on the yard!(Shoutout to Mike & Renee)!! They are there to HELP YOU,not do the work for you! I was trained in 1998 and have over 600K Miles on my DAC/driving record, but I was out of the industry for a few years and they helped knock the rust off, so too speak! Dont leave these people a bad review just because you didnt put in the work, look at it this way, its 90% on you, 10% on the school/instructors! Again, thank you all so much, David and I both were 1 and done and its because we listened and put in the work! Roll on Drivers!

Katlaw is simply a good choice for your cdl training. Great instructors, always on point office staff, and excellent and experienced yard instructors. I just got my class A (5/30/19)and besides the work and dedication that I had to apply myself, I owe it to every person that I met there. No matter who you are, slow learner or fast learner, experienced or completely void of any type of experience (like I was), male or female, young or old, you WILL excel, learn and succeed here. The price is right, the timing is right and the knowledge given in your three weeks is just what you’ll need to get on the road and provide for you and yours. I had no clue when I decided to take on trucking who to go to for my training and I was worried about who would serve my needs the best. Best choice I ever made!!!! Period!!! I have talked to other class A holders and students that have tried other schools. It was clear and evident through various conversations about disappointments with other schools and success’ that Katlaw is at the top of their game. Thanks to everyone there. BIG SHOUT-OUT TO: JIM, GWEN, MIKE, STEVE, RENAY, and KEN. They are the yard instructors that’ll make sure you learn and succeed. BIG SHOUT-OUT TO: KATIE, GABBY, BRI, DIANA AND JESSICA. They are the fantastic office staff that truly care about the service they provide. More ice pops please??!! (Inside joke) You’ll get it when you get there. Lastly, BIG SHOUT-OUT TO PROFESSOR ARCHIE, best in class instructor...hands down. I learned so much and I am forever grateful. Thank you KATLAW!

The staff was very nice and willing to be of assistance. The instructors are also very helpful and knowledgeable. I went into Katlaw with a goal and the instructors/staff help me accomplish that goal. You will get out the school, what you put in when it comes to this training. The school is probably has the lowest tuition of any private driving school in the state. But with such a low tuition comes some MINOR challenges. Those MINOR challenges are the equipment that you will be operating at Katlaw. The equipment is not top of the line; but how can you expect it to be. This equipment gets dogged day in and day out by inexperienced student drivers. I call them MINOR challenges because me and few other students took our test at the Ga dds and passed on our 1st try! You can come to the school, soak up the knowledge , do it the KATLAW way and become a member of the elite 1 & DONE crew! If the minor challenges that I mentioned discourage you then you can go to another school spend TWICE the amount of money to say that you learned how to drive on a tractor that shifted better to get the same damn CDL license.....But honestly I feel If you can handle this equipment, then you can handle any equipment! Thanks Katlaw Driving School!

Katlaw Trucking company of Austell is the only trucking school Ive attended, so I cant compare them with anyone else. But from my experience its not a good school several of the instructors such as Mr. Steve, Jim and Gwen were insightful and I learned a few things but overall I would say they are not a good company. The equipment is faulty such as unaligned steering wheels on some of the vehicles. Instructors do not have patience with the students and due to a clause in their agreement they can drop a student without warning before you get to test at DDS. Taking a students hard earned money or federal grant leaving a person out in the cold. So be very careful when dealing with this company. I am looking into legal actions as I am typing this review. At first I sent at least two referrals to this company but that was before I witnessed their sheisty politics first hand. Also I witnessed their passer rate with 7 guys in my class going to test and no one come back with their cdls. So have caution when dealing with this company.

Katlaw is the place to get your CDL; the instructors (Archie, Ms. G, Mike, Roger, Dan) provided exceptional training; & provided adequate equipment and trucks to get the job done; but it all depends on how bad you want to it, study hard, practice, practice, practice pretrip, maneuvers, on the road, and you should be ONE AND DONE. Thanks to Keith and the rest of the Staff for being patient and working with each student. Ms. G is also the best.

After being a #oneanddone, with a 97% gpa the only thing I can tell you is listen to the instructors do what they say and how they say to do it. It might get a little confusing at times but they will not steer you wrong. They work with you with every issue you have and they don’t give up, so do them a favor and keep the phone put away, ear buds out of your ear and listen, it’ll work every time!
