Had a great time in the BJJ and Muay Thai classes. People at the gym are super welcoming and willing to help all people at different skill levels. Would recommend to friends and family.

Amazing gym for adults, kids, beginners and pro competitors. Cooper MMA has something for everyone, with world class instructors for BJJ, Muay Thai and MMA. I have been training MMA for 7 years and wanted a place that was safe, fun but also legitimate to enroll my son and I. After trying one class, I enrolled my 6 year old in Kids BJJ/MMA and it has been an amazing experience. Coaches are super kid friendly, but also train actual positions/submissions and encourage technical skills instead of just being a daycare. Super safe, and clean environment.

My son started out at Coopers after having an instance with bullying at school. Sean Cooper, and his team of great coaches, provided him with very practical tools to help defend himself. More importantly, training at the gym and the encouragement that he received from Sean and the coaches gave him back his self-confidence. Having others recognize his hard work and accomplishment was a turning point in his life.Who knew, that after one year of watching my son train that I would give it a go. After training for a handful of years, I love the sport and the gym is like extended family. Cooper MMA is a great place to train and learn. Family friendly and I could not recommend it more.

Im a professional fighter with 12 years of experience. Ive been training at Cooper MMA for 4 years and have never had this level of quality of not only training, but just people in general. The gym is spotless, cleaned often, fogged with GermX, and there are no egos to speak of. This is a great environment to train in!

I have been training here at Coopers for over a year and it has been a great experience. The gym is very clean and the owner is very welcoming. It also has the most variety of classes out of any other gym Ive trained at over the last 10 years. Definitely recommend.

I walked in today to start the free trial and I have never been ignored so hard. At this point I’m not even sure if the woman at the front desk actually worked there lol. I walked up and said hi how are you and looked at her. She just looked down at her dog. I said oh cute dog. She didn’t look or speak to me for probably 5 minutes while I stood there looking at her. I eventually felt so awkward I just left. I got to my car and started laughing I’ve never had an experience like that. I’m shy so this might not be a big deal for others but I thought it was so surprising and odd I had to write about it.

Cooper MMA is a great place to train martial arts in Austin, Texas. They have the best instructors for Self-defense, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Boxing, Judo, and Wrestling. Sean Cooper is a very caring individual and focuses on using his gym to promote discipline, respect, and positivity into peoples lives. I have been training here for 2 years and it is a friendly environment and great place for beginners and veterans alike. It has a great children and kids program, womens, and competitive fighters programs. Everybody is very helpful and you will learn a lot from all the great coaches. Cooper MMA is a awesome place if you want to compete, pick up martial arts for a hobby, learn self-defense or just get a good workout in and have fun!

I cannot recommend this place enough. I have had so much encouragement and support — a million times more than any other fitness place I’ve patronized, period. The instructors are awesome at what they do. It’s also perfectly OK if you’re not “jacked” or “cut”. It’s also a very laid back environment and not run like a military boot camp. If you want to eventually compete, you get major support. If you’re like me and have no intention to compete and to just learn something useful, fun, and intense/stress-busting, you’re not looked down upon or, unlike some schools, not disqualified for promotion. We have people from all walks of life. There’s also a bonus in that there are Day and evening classes, which works very well for people who have odd schedules. Oh yeah, this place is super clean. You don’t have to worry about whether or not you will ruin your clothes or catch some kind of funk. It’s also very safety oriented, and women are both welcome and safe here. I’ve been here for just shy of a year now, and it has been outright transformative.

Amazing staff and training.. Perfect for beginners to the grappling world and epic stuff always happens here. Very schedule savvy for flexibility. I would certainly like to join up again as white belt. And this MMA gym covers every aspect. You name it ! Even Judo and Muay Thai. Not a fighter ? Strength and conditioning, on Saturdays. I highly recommend this particular gym because it is judgment- free and clean. Sean Coopers technique is super tight/precise. And he really likes to keep it moving. So, you gotta keep up. Although he does have to run a business, I do like his personality and he is a great trainer. Thank you Sean for your uplifting nature !

I was on the fence about stepping into a gym to learn jiu jitsu, for a long time. Physical conflict seemed too scary for me.Becoming a father, I decided to face my fears (so to speak) and I couldn’t be happier I did.I reached out to a friend, asking him for a safe environment to learn bjj and he recommended Cooper MMA, saying: “no question. Great place to roll.”He was not wrong. After leaving a message, the owner, Sean Cooper, reached out to me promptly and answered all my questions calmly and professionally.I felt welcomed and I tried it out, last week.Great people, very clean gym, fantastic atmosphere. No egos, safe training and great workouts. Sean is very personable and hands on with all his students. I just finished my sixth class and I signed up for the month. No sign up fee, no contracts, nothing sketchy. Very reasonably priced and completely transparent.Everyone has been supportive and welcoming.Try it out, you won’t regret it!

I have been a member since 2010 and can attest to the impact Cooper MMA has had on my life. This gym has it all! Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, MMA, Judo and boxing. But, what makes this gym great is the culture and leadership. Great training partners and all around good people here.

These other negative reviews seem very very suspect. I dropped in unannounced to check out the school. 1) The owner, a legitimate Gracie Jiu Jitsu Black Belt was teaching the kids, and there were also adult Brown belts and purple belts helping the kids. A great family atmosphere. No pressure to sign up, a very reasonable price (no contracts) and after checking out other schools in the area, Im picking this one because of its welcoming vibe and Legit instructors.

I went in late May 2017 to purchase a belt for my sons Gi. They informed me that I could purchase the belt from them, but they would have to order it and it would be there in a few days. After 2 weeks of hearing nothing, I went in to inquire about the whereabouts of the belt I had purchased. They told me they were expecting a truck by the end of the week and they would contact me. After not hearing anything, I went back in. The lady told me she doesnt handle that stuff and had to contact whoever does. Its been over 2 months now and I have yet to hear anything from anyone. They have my phone number and email address. Calling the listed phone number always gets me a voicemail which I have left several messages on with no return call. Granted, the belt was only $20. While everyone Ive interacted with has been very polite. Im leaving a bad review because of the severe lack of customer service. I guess they can just keep the $20. Ive already purchased the belt elsewhere. Practice better follow up techniques please

I was supposed to receive a $170 refund for a the Nate Diaz and Gilbert Melendez seminar, since Nate Diaz was unable to teach the class. A week after the class I still had not received my refund. I tried calling their office, no answer, so I sent them an email. I was already extremely annoyed that I had to take the initiative to receive the refund, but I am now absolutely infuriated that it’s been a week since I have emailed them and have gotten no response. I don’t see how a business owner can justify making a customer pay for something they never received. They seem to have no problem providing half the service but pocketing the full amount of money. Could not give this place a low enough rating.

Cooper MMA has good instruction but poor management. I cancelled my membership last year via email and it was confirmed. Two months later, my recurring payments resumed for several months (though I never had returned to Cooper MMA). I emailed Sean Cooper and facebooked him and the gym and never heard any response. My Bank was only able to reverse two of the charges as fraudulent due to timing. This felt like theft as I have still not heard anything back from them to resolve the issue and they still have money from my account after I cancelled. It has been very frustrating. I recommend staying away from this company as it has very shady business practices (or at a minimum, negligent ones).

Its frustrating with them so only giving them 1 star

Been training with Sean and his black belts for about a year. I can honestly say that the people that attend and run this gym have to be the coolest group to work with!If youre into martial arts or just want to loose some weight, take their free first class. Their jiu jitsu classes are great, fun and efficient! They even have basics classes for people who dont know much about the sport. World class boxing and muay thai classes too!Definitely a no ego zone!

Ive been training at Cooper MMA for a little over two months. Overweight and out of shape, I was apprehensive about joining as I assumed it would have the usual gym atmosphere I had been exposed to before. That is NOT the case at Cooper MMA. Sean cooper, the owner and head instructor, is an extremely talented teacher and goes above and beyond to make sure everyone feels comfortable and understands the techniques he teaches in his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes. The amazing thing about this gym is that positive attitude flows through the entire gym, from his very talented staff to all the members that train there. If youre looking for a place to get fit or really hone your skills in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (GI or No GI), Muy Thai, boxing, Judo, or MMA, I urge you to come experience Cooper MMA, I promise you wont be disappointed.

Sean Cooper is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Cleber Luciano. Hes been my coach for over 4 years, and it has changed my life. Jiu-jitsu is a transformational martial art, but its key to have a caring and competent teacher to lead you through the journey. Hes been with me through my blue and purple belts, and also coached me through many tournaments. The atmosphere at Seans gym is very team and family oriented. The environment is very friendly, which is great for newcomers to the sport. Yet, there are very tough competitors that will give the most veteran fighters a run for their money. Sean has fostered a great learning environment for all types.
