The facility are clean and organized. The professors are great and go above and beyond. They focus on teaching great skills to the students. They teach respect, self respect, how to build self esteem. I like how they check the kids report cards and make sure that they have been good at home, because it is important that the kids see training as a privilege.

My sons and I have been going for several years now. The people in the gym have become like family. The kids class has been exceptional. Especially for my oldest son. They hold them not just accountable on the mat but in life and school. It’s been great to have Mike and the coaches partner with me and help keep my boys accountable.

I walked through the doors at SVJJ nearly three years ago. I was really just looking for exercise and to learn something new for myself. Little did I know that I had messed around and joined a family. A family of like minded individuals from all walks of life. The men and women here are welcoming, tough, and caring, many have become what will turn out to be life long friends. Not only have I joined a family, and met many friends for life, I have met myself. I have met myself on the mat on more than one occasion and when I thought I was happy with that new person I had met, one of the others here introduced me to my new self over and over and over again. There is no quit in these guys and I cant appreciate the gift they have given me enough.I cannot wait to get my grandchildren involved with the kids program here. I know that they will grow into hunters and not gatherers once trained here.

Have been there for two years. I came for the Jiu Jitsu, and stayed for the family. Kids classes encourage discipline and structure, and the adult classes are outstanding. Easy choice for fitness, BJJ, and self defense.

SVJJ is a great place to come learn Jiujitsu whether you have been training for quite some time or are just trying it out for the first time. The instruction is top notch and always a good time to be had. Can’t recommend this school enough.

Our kids (5 & 7 year olds) were going here the last several months, but we had to pull them out. They initially enjoyed it, liked the kids they met there, and loved a lot of the instructors, but they started telling me the kids would get hit there. I thought they meant during the practices, but they said it wasn’t.My husband and I sat in for a portion of the next one and we saw the instructor the kids called “Nick,” the main instructor, slap my 7 year old daughter across the face and our 5 year old son across the back of the head for not giving enough “eye contact” while they were slapping hands at the end of practice. I am not anti-discipline, but to give corporal punishment, as well as for something so petty, is inexcusable and unacceptable. This guy also critiques their report cards in front of everyone and shames the kids with less than perfect grades. It gets a little uncomfortable for them and the viewers. Ultimately, holding the kids responsible should be up to the parents, not the instructor. I get that having so many kids together can be like herding cats, but I think this can be done without slapping them.

I found SVJJ after driving by for a long time and decided I would try out jiu jitsu.I had several questions, so I gave them a call. The owner Tommy picked up and walked me through the exact process of coming to a class. When I showed up that afternoon, he came up and introduced himself, showing me where everything is and helped me find a gi that fit.During class, he made sure to take time to check on me and my well-being. He would demonstrate something and then come over to make sure I understood how to do it.I would recommend this for anyone of any age. There is not a finer group of people to train with.

My husband and I love bringing our daughter to South Valley Jiu Jitsu and more importantly she loves training there. The instructors and kids are incredibly kind and welcoming. My daughter is on the younger side of the kids class but the coaches and other students have always had so much patience with her. Coach Mike goes above and beyond to make sure his students are successful both in jiu jitsu and in the classroom. We would not go anywhere else.

Been training at South Valley for a while now and cant begin tell you what jiu jitsu and the men that train there have and continue to do for me and my life. Great family environment and excellent real world Jiu Jitsu techniques that work in both street/self defense and tournament situations. Excellent kids program with the best kids coaching staff in town. Kids will learn life skills, respect, and discipline and have fun doing it. Not to mention its the nicest, cleanest facility in town.

Im returning after a few years from a blue belt curse with my son who now is a freshman high school. The school have changed a lot, but all the friendly faces are still there and coach Tom is still passionate about teaching jiu jitsu as ever. I remember how South Valley have change my body and soul. At 52 yrs old, with God willing I hope I can do jiu jitsu at South Valley forever.
