The instructors and students at MKA are very friendly and approachable at all levels. I and two of my children attend classes somewhat regularly. There are classes available through the week to fit any schedule and if there is no fit, private lessons are reasonably priced and individually tailored. The Power Brothers are genuine gentlemen. This is a wonderful place to start doing a family activity. Come work out with us!

Great dojo that focuses on traditional Karate techniques and values. My son has been going for close to 5 years and its been amazing to watch his progress in both skill and confidence. The Instructors are great with kids and are able to teach foundational body dynamics that can be used not only in Karate but all other sports. My Wife and I also recently started and can feel a big difference in our level of fitness and flexibility. Karate is now a family event for us and something we will share for a long time to come..

Being part of the Dojo for almost 4 years I can only speak high about it. Its leadership is fully committed in teaching the very traditional Karate. This means that values come before performance. Attitude is more important than power. This creates an environment of respect, mutual engagement and continuing pursue of improvement. It is a bless to have found this place.

If you are looking for a family friendly environment that boosts both self-confidence and awareness, you have found the place. Not only do students learn Shotokan karate and the amazing body dynamics that go along with that instruction, the students learn invaluable life -long self defense skills. Having been a student for more than 10 years along with all four of my children, I can highly recommend the Missouri Karate Association. You and your child will not only gain the confidence necessary to learn self defense skills, but you will learn in a controlled and supportive environment that includes collaboration from all its members ranging from white belts to upper level black belts. The instructors are life long learners who are constantly working to improve their own skills and bringing that information back to their students and sharing it with them. The best way to understand is by giving it a try and I am certain you will not be disappointed.

If youre looking to truly learn and get the most value out of your experience you should give this dojo a shot. The instructors (especially Sean) are sincerely driven to help you learn the most you can. Trying to advance to higher belts is not taken lightly here and you will have to WORK for it, but know that they make it this way to ensure you really succeed and have the highest quality of experience that you can get. Karate here isnt treated just as a business like other places might do, they care about you making real, valuable progress. There are no shortcuts to success.

My type of place. I joined the MKA when it started many years ago and I found friends and a quite elegant and professional family environment. Many years later, being a doctor, I still have the privilege to train with the best and I understand the excellent athletic environment that is present in this dojo alongside with the more competitive professional traditional Shotokan karate environment. This environment is warm, friendly, and allows me as a professional at a later age to still train on a personal tailored basis in my spare time. This environment derived from the old principles since when centuries ago the weapons were prohibited in the prefecture of Okinawa and the families and peasants had to learn to defend themselves with their own hands helps me everyday to go along strongly and more confident in my pathway and my family. Thank you deeply.

Growing up I always had considerable interest in martial arts but never took the first step of walking in the dojo. Ten years ago my wife encouraged me to look around the STL area for traditional Karate dojos and we were blessed to find MKA. The professionalism and mastery of the art by MKA Senseis is second to none...I would find it hard to train anywhere else. The caliber of teaching and student interaction is superb. It is definitely the premier Karate dojo of the Midwest.

I enrolled my son in karate classes at MKA three months ago. After just that short period of time, the friends that weve made in this amazing karate community already feel like family. My son has gained confidence, new skills, and great friends. And best of all- hes always having FUN! The teachers are incredible- Senseis Sean, Barry and Darrell have all worked with my son and have shown great care, patience and encouragement. I loved watching my son excel in the sport so much, that I decided to start taking the adult classes! The dojo is extremely diverse with students of all ages, backgrounds and ethnicities. Everyone is treated with the utmost respect and kindness. I encourage everyone to come in and check it out!

Being a Karate student since my teenage years, I had it stopped for a long time until moved to MO. Then I found the MKA Dojo. What I saw quickly captured my interest: a very traditional, well practiced Karate. And this is what really matters. If one is looking for just trow punches and kicks, then there a lot of alternatives out there. But traditional Karate is more than that. It is about the spirit, the discipline, respect and, ones self development. It is not me against you, but me versus myself. How much better can I be?After almost 4 years in there I can say that retaking my Karate practice was by far one of those great decisions that we make in life. The Senseis give all they can to make the classes nice but always trying to extract the best from each student. The overall environment with other students is really good and I have developed great friendships in there.A particular note about the work done with children. It requires a great deal of competence to deal with the small ones and the Senseis do that very well. Those kids are certainly getting a good reference that will positively impact their lives. Now, the best thing to do, is to just go there and try a class. You will really like it !

Karate is a way of living: its a great workout, its helping my kids build their self confidence, be more disciplined and deal with conflicts in a nonviolent way. My sons and I have studied with Missouri Karate Association for over 5 years. As a karate instructor myself and someone who has trained at a wide variety of dojos in the past, I have found MKA to be the best dojo in and around St. Louis to learn an effective and practical martial art. All of the Senseis (instructors) are highly skilled, knowledgeable, and motivated. As a matter of fact, they’re also national and international champions! You can rest assured that you’re getting top-notch training here. Their classes are offered in a safe, family-friendly environment and focus on developing the best skills, techniques, and values of traditional Shotokan Karate. Additionally, MKA has many high-ranking Shotokan practitioners come to their dojo for seminars and testing. I highly recommend this dojo!

My son started at Missouri Karate Association in 2013. After attending another Shotokan dojo that went out of business. My husband and I knew we wanted him to stay in a Shotokan dojo because we loved the traditional style.Today my son is a junior black belt and is looking forward to test for his adult black belt in a few months. This dojo does not just give you your next belt. You must work hard for the belts. I remember I was sitting at a wedding and a couple next to me told me there son had his black belt. I asked her how long he was practicing and she told me six months. At the MKA you work hard for your belts. They are not just given to you. The Sensi’s ( instructors) are US and Canadian medalist. They want your child or yourself to have self confidence and discipline. The MKA is family!!! Everyone here is supportive, friendly and is eager to show you why they love this sport!

I was one of the very first students at the MKA. The Power brothers immediately provided a second family to me during my shy middle school years. I fell in love with the history of the sport, the uniqueness of the sport, and all of the life skills that are learned through traditional shotokan karate. Through the dojo, I was encouraged to begin teaching once achieving my black belt ranking. I continued to be a student and study the art of shotokan karate as well as begin teaching. Learning the Japanese vocabulary, gaining self confidence to be a leader, learning core values of perseverance, failures, success and dedication. This is truly a sport that teaches you about commitment. Commitment to your past learning experiences, current self and your future goals. I am now a foreign language teacher and the dojo was my first true experience as a teacher. The MKA provided me an experience that has taught me skills and values that I now have for a lifetime. What a family, what an experience. I recommend this dojo to all.

Missouri Karate Association (MKA) is a traditional Shotokan dojo that offers training for men, women & children. What sets them apart from other karate dojos in the area is that they teach discipline, self confidence, and respect along with generating power when using your karate. Some karate moves looks great for photo ops but if used in real life scenarios would have no force behind them and would fail to protect you so that is why Shotokan is a great choice. My boys have been training here for years and my son Sean (who has trained and competed internationally) is now the head instructor. I started training in July 2018 and love being part of a great group of people. My fellow students have become friends. I would highly recommend MKA to anyone who is looking to learn karate and self defense is a friendly, respectful atmosphere.

My son has been a part of MKA Family for just over 3 years. From the day he entered the dojo, he was welcomed by incredibly dedicated and talented instructors. They are a group of world class Karate-ka (空手家) and most humble and deeply kind people we have ever met. They all continue to train hard everyday in pursuit of karate-do (空手道). We feel so honored to be in the presence of such class of instructors. As for my son, he is learning to be a karate-ka and working very hard in the best environment he can be in. He is learning that It is not about instant gratification, quick reword, or collecting higher belts quickly, but it is about the journey to his destination. We highly recommend this school if you are kind of people who can appreciate true dedication.

We have been members of the Missouri Karate Association, aka. MKA, for over 11 years. The Power brothers, the other athletes, and their families have became an extension of my family. My son is on the MKA Elite competition team and we travel all over the United States with our MKA family. This has made wonderful memories for my children and family that will be with us for a lifetime. It has brought all of us closer together and we have had so much fun. If you are thinking about joining a karate club, this is the only one I could ever recommend. I have been to many different dojo’s and this is the place to be. The instructors will work on not just karate but focus on all aspects of life. The total mind, body, and spirit while relating it all to karate. Give us a try. You will not regret it.

My daughter. Has been with MKA for 3 years. There are many karate classes in town, but not so many were teaching Karate like I have seen in Japan. As Japanese mother, I am so happy that my daughter is learning traditional Karate with MKA. The belt/rank she earned in MKA is totally accepted in Japanese dojos. Actually, MKA’s Shotokan style is the most widely practice style in the world.I can see MKA instructors’ sincere mind toward karate inspiring children in a lot of ways.
