If I could give ZERO STARS I would!! First let me say, in order to join this program they prefer you to be unemployed or work little to no work hours to attend a 6 week program .. I resigned from a job specifically for this program . All of the recent reviews are based off of one teacher , I was unfortunately not lucky enough to have that teacher. During class you are expected to complete certain skills related to being a CNA/GNA & the school sends you a couple supplies to use for your skills but they also expect you to go out and spend your own money to complete the skills. (Keep in mind they prefer you to be unemployed so what unemployed person wants to spend unnecessary money just for a mock test) then not to mention at the start of the program they don’t inform you how drawn out the wait is to take your exam to become a GNA due to the board of nursing being backed up. So your only expected to make about $13-$15 as A CNA until your testing date which is months away at the minimum . I found out that part from my instructor once I was already enrolled which who was not very pleasant of working with , she talks to students like we are her children & the administration at the program will defend this kind of behavior. I wanted to switch my classes because of it & they made that process even harder . I informed them on multiple occasions that I accepted employment again with a government agency & would not be able to complete morning classes & they still insisted on putting me in an morning classes after being informed multiple times that I could not attend .. the program is free if your going through a grant funder that’s the only good thing . If your paying out of pocket I personally suggest you go else where!

I had to get on here and write a review about my clinical teacher Ms. Octavia I am very happy that she was my instructor she has a no nonsense demeanor and I definitely like that she is laid back and professional and I plucked her nerves lol

If I could give this school a ZERO they would have just that. Before taking my entrance exam I notified them of my learning disability and hearing. I was told that they could accommodate me. My 1st week in class they didn’t have anything set into place for me. My teacher was Octavia and the director Mort gave a talk with the classroom. Mort opening explained that many students reported Octavia in the past because of her unprofessionalism. That he didn’t find their complaints valid because they were “problem students who needed to go anyways”... Octavia is very unprofessional and doesn’t carry herself in a professional manor. We have got into it multiple times... about my accommodations for my disabilities, me feeling like I was about to pass out and now because she asked another student if I was mentally retarded or something. The student felt offended because she has a child who’s mentally disabled... took offense and told me.The students what have witnessed the harassment... asked me not to report her with their names because they’re scared they’ll get treated how I’m being treated or kicked out.I was kicked out because after the teacher asked if I was mentally retarded... I refused to talk to her. Mort told me that I’ll never make it in this business because I don’t have tough skin and if I would’ve just talked to her alone (her and I)... they would’ve never kicked me out.The teacher stated that I threw a sheet on paper at her and refused to talk to her. What happened is I refused to talk to her alone about what she called me and didn’t look her in the eyes. My head was down the whole time... the paper I pushed to the end of the table bc she couldn’t fit between the students chairs from my chair. She was 2-3 chairs to my right. I didn’t throw a thing... I don’t like that I was treated like this and I did nothing wrong.Mort said if I did this in a classroom how do they not know if I’ll do it on the unit. I’ve been doing this for 5 years and if you have someone who’s harassing you... you don’t have a conversation with them alone. You have a sit down with other around.

I had the great pleasure and opportunity of learning under the teaching of Joyce Cleargy, RN! She is very patient, loving, nurturing and thorough. Her skills impacted my entire class with a 100% graduation rate. Ms. Cleargy is truly blessed with a special gift and I am forever grateful for her time, dedication and commitment to ensuring our success in the healthcare field! I am also thankful for all of the itWORKS program staff and its sponsors, such as Mort, Iris Somerville, Kim Rhim and the staff and residents of Fort Washington Rehabilitation Center and I will be recommending this program to others looking to start a career in the nursing field! Become of you all and quite a few not mentioned, I am a CNA/GNA! THANK YOU!!!
