Our 11-year old was a struggling reader and everyday was a fight during homework time. Shed developed a real fear of reading and HATED IT!After just her first visit to Kumon (this past June), she came home excited about reading. Shes been going twice a week faithfully and weve seen a dramatic change in her overall academic performance. Shes excited about school, we dont fight to do homework and she now volunteers to read everything! Kumon has changed our lives!

Enrolling my kids in Kumon over a year ago was one of the best things I could have done to help supplement the education they receive at school. Relying solely on the school to educate your child doesnt work for kids who need extra help. Kumon is the extra help I was looking for to help my children. The owner of the center, Mr. Wes, has always been extremely friendly, understanding and helpful to our family. He always answers all the questions I have regarding the progress my children are making. He also offers helpful advice on how to get the most out of the Kumon experience. Kumon is a great place to come if your child needs extra help, and also if they are on grade level but need a challenge. We love Kumon!

Awesome staff and very patient with children learning new concepts. The team at Kumon - Baton Rouge always keep us informed as to our childs progress. We are sending our second child through Kumon and our experience has been excellent for both children as both children are in accelerated curricula at school and are excelling in both learning environments.

My daughter started Kumon at the age of 3. We stayed for approximately 1 year and 1 month. Starting Kumon was the best thing for our family. Our daughter excelled beyond our expectations and is continuing to progress at a rapid rate. Wes and his team are caring, knowledgeable, and passionate about helping every family that comes through his doors. He works closely with the parents to continuously advance the children. He does weekly check ins with us to see how she is responding to the home work load and how we are responding to it. My daughter absolutely loved her time at Wess center and we are so sad to leave (moving to new state.) Now at the age of 4 my daughter can confidently read any piece of literature placed in front of her and has started to do addition and subtraction. She has also been recommended for the advanced program in her school district. The children also get to enjoy their accomplishments with a yearly award ceremony. If youre looking for a place that will nurture your childs learning environment and treat you like family, look no further than Wes and his amazing team.

So grateful I signed my girls up. They are above grade level in reading and Math. I know that the foundation of these skills were successful taught to them at Kumon. Mr. Harris was very helpful in working with out busy schedule and always kept me up to date on where my girls were academically.

It’s the best place to enroll your kids for learning math and reading. Mr. Wes is very hard working; he gives his personal attention to each kid and motivates children to finish their work. Thank you Mr. Wes for everything you do for our children.

Our time at Kumon has been simply delightful. From the young lady at the front, who always greets you with the brightest smile, to the wonderful instructors, to Mrs. Phyllis at the reading center. Mr. Wes Harris is a strong leader and its evident in, not only his staff, but the comfortably of the children and parents. Along with my childs educational progress, she was also able to gain social progress. The diversity of this particular location is unbeatable, parents and children of all different backgrounds come here for the upscale education and tutoring setting. You get so much for your money here. And whenever we needed extra time Mr. Harris was always accommodating.

Our son started Kumon math and reading over a year ago. Kumon has without a doubt had a positive impact on our sons studies. Our son has gained confidence in math and reading and his overall performance at school has improved! Our son is on the honor roll and was recently inducted into the Junior Beta Club Honor Society! Mr. Wes and his staff have been awesome to work with! Mr Wes has a variety or rewards such as itune cards, google play cards, slime, play-doh, and so much more to keep the kids motivated. The kids can purchase these rewards using the Kumon bucks that they earn for completing work packets and moving on to the next level.

Very high price for meeting twice a week for 30 minutes each subject. Very limited in times offered. South Harrels Ferry in Baton Rouge very disappointing! Owner has no degrees in mathematics. Seems to focus only on children with poor English skills. I would not recommend sending your child here. There are many better places that offer 5 days a week for much cheaper and include advanced math. 👎👎

Enrolling my kids in Kumon was the right decision. 8 years ago, we heard about the program from a friend and decided to enroll my 7 year old daughter. The Kumon method focuses on repetition to build confidence and accuracy in a given subject. It is based on self-learning, so children do not have to see instructors very often - once or twice a week is recommended. Kumon is especially effective for filling in cracks in math and literary foundations and setting you up for higher and more advanced material. This Kumon center is run by Mr. Wes, a great and hardworking teacher who is dedicated to his job. Some other reviews say he doesn’t have a degree in mathematics, but it is not necessary to have a degree in math to be able to teach math. He is a professor and anyone who has gone to college is required to take a couple of math classes. Think of all of those student tutors and parents who help their children with homework - do they have a degree in math? No, but they can help their children a lot if they understand the material! Which Mr. Wes does, and if it’s complicated, there are plenty of advanced math textbooks in the front that can explain it well too. Because of Kumon, both of my kids are hard workers and have learned to not be spoonfed material: if they want to learn something, they look it up or ask someone. My daughter is now 15, excelling school, and is at the top of her class. Recently, she scored a 35 on her first ACT in high school. If the Kumon method is done right, it can be very effective and extremely helpful. I remember her complaining about doing her math worksheets every night, but now she is thankful that she did it. Now, she’s a state math competition winner and frequently reflects on how grudgingly grateful she is for redoing her worksheets in algebra and division. I highly recommend that your kids enroll in Kumon so they can strengthen their base in math and reading too!

***Do not bring you child here****. For starters they give you a test to see your childs development area. However, they give them pointless work. For an example, my son is in 4th grade. He is still doing subtraction and addition and baby work in reading. He should be doing multiplication instead of doing baby work. He already knows how to do addition, subtraction, and reading but i dont know why they still give him baby work. Wes says is to boost his confidence. lol what does that even mean hes already confident. Your child gets 8 packets with a total of 20 pages. 20 x 8 = 160 pages! Its a bunch of nonsense because he has to do this. They do not tutor your kids, they just give them papers to do and if they get it wrong they have to correct it and the instructor does not help. If your child is struggling with math, consider going to Mathnasium on Coursey. Mathnasium connects your childs school to see what your child is learning. They give extra practice. Therefore, do not go to Kumon it is worthless.

Our son started at Kumon, South harells ferry center at age of 3. He is 5 yrs now and can read quiet fast. Its fascinating to see him read the street signs, bill boards and words off the menu at age 4. we had our hiccups during these 2 years and Mr. Wes showed tremendous patience and would adjust the levels accordingly. It was frustrating as Mr. Wes suggestions didnt line up with what we we thought initially; but glad we listened to him as his advise of pulling back to a lower level really helped my son advance even fast. Kumon is based on discipline and practice. We have a very positive experience and see that our son is working on 1st grade level english in pre-K. Cant wait for my girls to start Kumon soon.

Major disappointment! My pregnant wife and I made an appointment in good faith for our daughter to meet with someone at this Kumon location. We were excited to get her started. She is an above average student with straight As. We were simply seeking Advanced training in math and reading comprehension. Our daughter was tested then the owner Wes Harris began to give his assessment. After listening to him, I expressed my desire to have our daughter taught on a more advanced level then what he was describing. As my wife put it, she could feel the tension as he said in his own words I am going to try to fill in cracks in her foundation. I said thats fine then again, bc he interrupted me, tried to get an understanding of how the pace would be under his guidance. He became defensive and seemed irritated that we had questioned him at all. I felt that he still hadnt answered my question so I restated it in a different way as I do not have any knowledge of the Kumon method. Literally, within a split second, he became angry and said Kumon is not for yall you need to leave. He then picked up his chair that he was sitting in, right next to my wife and I and little girl, and angrily pushed it up against the wall. He then walked over and stood over me motioning his hand towards the door. My wife and daughter were crying and obviously upset. I continued to sit there in disbelief that he had such a fragile ego he was telling us to leave and that Kumon was not for us. Then, as I stood up to leave, I told him this was unprofessional. I was still standing there waiting for something to make sense then he threaten to call the police. The bottom line here is that no one should be treated this way in business especially when it concerns a child. I deal with people every day in business and if I was as thin skinned as this person I would never get through the day.On a further note, Kumon is only open in the afternoons two days a week and your child will get approximately 30 minutes in each subject. If you research many of The other programs similar to this one you can go as often as you like any day of the week for a much longer time. I agree with the other one star comment about this business. Kumon is a Korean franchise that works best for kids when English is not their primary language. Also, as you read about this instructor Wes Harris, you will see he is educated with a Masters in fine arts in English. I had many questions as most parents probably would about the education we would be paying approximately $300 a month for but didnt get to ask them because one question became a problem for him. I wanted to ask about math because as you read the website you will see he has no college education in the field of mathematics. If your child struggles with the English language, this may be the right school for you. However, know going into Kumon, especially this location owned by Wes Harris, you will need to blindly accept his methods without expressing any questions or concerns. Hint!!! Just read the form they give you to fill out. Im sorry but Im not going to just hand my child over to someone that wont even answer questions from a concerned parent. In summary, Mr. Harris is correct! Kumon is not for us!
