The most vile and disgusting people here. They do not care about you or your pet. My four month old puppy died due to their lack of care and I genuinely wish the worst in life for these people. You’d probably get better results treating your pet yourself with a blindfold on.

Today we had to put my dog down, the vets here made us feel so much better (two girls, one has blondeish hair with glasses and one with brown hair, i don’t remember their names today’s been rough). they checked in on us every few minutes. stayed past when they were supposed to clock out just to attend to us. they were very honest about their thoughts and the process (which was very appreciated), told us to not worry about paying today and they’d just mail us the bill as well. thank you guys for making such a horrible day at least a little bit bearable. you will never know how much it means to my family, especially me. thank you for everything. i know you guys did as much as possible to save my baby.

I’ve always had a great experience with our two dogs and the community practice but since the construction started and the drop off system was instituted it has been chaotic ever since. You don’t have an actual time of appointment (so you have to take off of work all day), prescription meds are not ordered and delayed, and the staff is clearly overwhelmed with the amount of work at the front desk (or should I say HALL?). I am seriously unpleased with the delivery of care here and unfortunately need to find a new vet for my dogs. Not sure what happened. I used to really love it.

This place is for students to practice on veterinary. They are not experienced and will run every possible test on your pets because the goal of the school is education instead of treating your pets. The information below is related to my dog’s experience a few years ago.My dog’s back legs got paralyzed at midnight, and I had to take her to an emergency care. I misperceived this place to be the best in town as it is associated with LSU. I was told it was likely to be a disk disease and a surgery was needed the next day. I signed the paperwork and was told the cost would be 3k to 4k. Although I felt it was overpriced without provided with an itemized estimate, I still went ahead because I wanted the best for my dog. No update the next day until I called and found out they did NOT perform the surgery. They said they found a BB bullet in my dog’s body (before I rescued her) and it messed with the MRI results. Should not you tell me right away that surgery was not performed before I called you at the end of the day?! Do not you think it was important to a dog parent? If I did not call, what would you do then? Then, I was told they did not find the disk, but instead a lot of information on the spine. They suspected it was tumor and did an biopsy. I was told that the results would be ready in two weeks. In the meanwhile, my dog was in hospital, in an ICU room as she could not walk. I was not informed what they would do or the cost of the ICU room at all. I waited for two weeks, and I reached out again for the results. All I got was the result was inconclusive because my dog was a special case. I asked what would be the next step. They told me to order another biopsy, and they suspected they did not cut deep enough to get the sample. I was upset and firmly said no. Don’t let my dog suffer even more if you could not just do your job right. They finally seemed to find out that they could not rip me off anymore. They dismissed my dog. Guess what, I received a $5,000 bill! Wow, should not you tell me upfront?! Don’t even bother to tell me?The only reason I gave them one star is because they did not let me dog die. At least I still have her. Otherwise, I will give a zero if Google allows it. I was stupid to trust LSU vet. I decided to take my dog to other places. I asked LSU vet to fax or email my dog’s record to the other vets. It was a hassle! They always said okay on the phone but just did not do it. By the way, I paid them in full so that just no need to deal with them anymore. I called again, they were like I had to sign sth to get it fax. Being a dog owner for 9 years, this was the first time I heard I had to sign sth to fax my own dog’s record to a vet I was using. I signed and sent written email with my full name. Guess what, they ignored again! I ended up spent a few hours in the hospital to get the printed record. What bad customer service. If you don’t fax record, just say it! Don’t pretend you will help but you just dont care.Later on, I tried three different vets, they all reached to the same conclusion: my dog possibly got a bad infection that happened suddenly. The vets were shocked when they saw the tests LSU vet performed on my dog. They felt bad that I had to pay 5k. My dog is healthy, running around freely now. Other vets fixed the problem effectively with a few injections. I told every friend in Baton Rouge just don’t go to LSU vet. Very unprofessional operations. It’s hard to talk to a vet there. I can mostly reach to technicians and always got answers that Dr. XX’s team will discuss your dog’s situation and get back to you. Of course never heard back. This is about my dog’s life. If you want to use it as your educational opportunity, treat your customer with respect! Meet your customer, take time to explain, and be transparent on your charges. This is basic and the rest of the vets all will do this. One last thing, I have the right to let you fax my dog’s record to another vet. You should not ignore my legal right.

Highly recommend. Even though it was strange to pull up to a tent and have someone come take my daughters dog they were so kind and took excellent care of Pepper. I thought we would have to pay an outrageous price for using a 24 hour vet but I was so wrong. The cost was way under what I expected to pay. Thank you to Sarah who took care of Pepper and kept my daughter calm with her knowledge and keeping us updated. Also big thanks to sweet young lady that did our intake over the phone for staying on the line with me as she helped me find my way to the hospital. As scared as we were last night I am so thankful for all who helped make sure Pepper was ok. Nice touch mentioning she was all snuggled up in a fuzzy pink blanket.

LSU Vet School Small Animal Surgery Center is a great place! The staff and vets took wonderful care of my dachshund. She had an appointment within 24 hours of us calling and she had surgery the next day to remove a herniated disc in her neck. They called us several times a day updating us on her condition and we were able to get her out of the hospital sooner than anticipated because she was so well cared for and recovering quickly.

My little Lhasapoo Milan was checked into the small animal hospital on June 29th near death. She was vomiting, had bloody smelly poop, was not eating, had a high fever, low white blood cell count and very lethargic. As soon as we arrived they immediately came and got her (no entry due to Covid). She was brought to the emergency room ICU and immediately was given things to stabilize her. Her care was transferred to an internal medicine doctor-Dr. Sparago. Dr. Sparago was great! We know he did everything in his power to make our little girl better. He gave us daily phone updates on her condition and care. Today our Milan is home and recovering. We are so very grateful for the hospital and the efforts of the entire staff responsible for her care.

You know that youre dealing with people who are interested solely in your money when the first thing they say to you when you walk through the door carrying your pet is, You know theres an automatic $90 consulting fee? These people stop just short of extorting money from you. They wouldnt do anything for my dog until I coughed up $400 (in addition to the consulting fee) right there on the spot.Ive used several veterinary services in Baton Rouge, but the LSU Vet School was the absolute worst, hands down. One would think that a veterinary service affiliated with the flagship university would be top notch, but that is not my observation. Words arent sufficient to describe what a horrible experience I had with these people. They are grossly overpriced, to begin with. On top of that, their billing/accounting office cannot get billing correct. Whether deliberate or accidental due to very sloppy procedure, it is more than annoying to continue receiving a bill for service already paid for. The final indignity is that I wasted my money because the doctor there completely misdiagnosed my dogs problem. In that regard, it was like dealing with a second year veterinary student.I will not take an animal there ever again. I absolutely despise the LSU Vet School and can only hope that the veterinarians they churn out are better people and more understanding human beings than the ones who actually work there.

I was devastated one of my beloved dogs became ill out of no where after driving in to town on a vacation. I quickly resorted to LSU thinking if anyone would know what was wrong they would.. Many test were run. Even repeated over an over that were just done. They didnt care it wasnt their money and knowing how desperate people are we do anything to save our angels. The tab was running up higher and higher and they had no clue what so ever was wrong.. I walked out of there with my baby who died in 3 days, and a $5,000 with absolutely no answer at all.. I am sickened by what took place and still believe to this day she could have been saved.. It is not the LSU I remembered from years ago.. Its all about money now and less about caring.. I didnt like the lackadaisical attitude at all.. These animals are more like children to most of us and we expect your all and if you cant give us that you shouldnt quit now. Makes me sick.Today knowing much more on my own I relaxed she was having trachea collapse being a tiny YorkieHow in the hell could they not think to check for CT? It s very common in this breed and all the symptoms were there. I consider this vet total incompetent to be teaching anything. I lost my sweet baby for nothingI will never get over it.

I was quoted $3200 for a surgery on my dog’s leg. I agreed to the price. I was VERY clear, and asked if that included EVERYTHING before i agreed. Then after the surgery was completed, the price changed to $6000!!!!! Apparently they chose the wrong screw and plate size and my dog had to have surgery twice without my knowledge. At least that’s what I’m told! I was treated so rudely and poorly by the administration. I’m 100% convinced that they are scamming as many people as they can! BEWARE!

This is very specific to -Internal Medicine-, the other departments have been excellent. Unfortunately they have me over a barrel with my dog. They have poor bedside manner, clearly do not communicate with each other, and basic things a pet owner needs to know about their animal seem to get lost in the mix. Theyve been really unhelpful doing even basic things and will often cite theyre busy. I am too, and I shouldnt need to call 4 or 5 times to get some paperwork filled out so I can get the medication I need for my dog. Id love to contact whomever is in charge of internal medicine, but I have no idea how to go about that. I cant be the only person with this problem.

Huge marks for professionalism and great care, low marks for response times. My frenchie has two congenital heart defects, which mean expensive tests and treatments on the regular. While getting through to the small animal clinic is tough (they have a lot of patients coming in from all over the state) once we were booked with our appointment, everything was fine. The cardiologist (Dr. McGee, I believe) whiteboarded her condition to help educate me around what was actually wrong -- demystifying what I thought was an alarming condition in my pup. I was encouraged to ask as many questions as I needed and walked through her answers with professionalism and support. That meant so much to me. She was able to get us on meds ($12 per month) and ease the stress my family had been managing for almost 2 years. The best part was that the echocardiogram test, which cost me $800 in Oregon, cost a little over $500. Which is not cheap, but so much more manageable for a dog that needs frequent tests. Highly recommend LSU if you have a specialized issue that you need support with.

DO NOT BRING RATS, MICE OR ANY OTHER SMALL ANIMALS!!!!!!I would give no stars if I could. My experience today was terrible. Yesterday I called to see if they could board my 2 week old rats. Their mother was hurting them so theyre being bottle fed. I explained this to the receptionist. She told me to drop my rats off the next day, no problem. I told her how old and that they were still being bottle fed. I drive over this morning which is an hour away, sit in the waiting room for an hour just to be told that they cant board them. I had a flight today. I told the vet this and then told him that a couple of the babies have inflamed stomaches and he told me some make it, some dont. Obviously did not care about the wellbeing of these animals Ive been trying to keep alive for the last couple weeks. Then after all this they charged me for the visit, a visit to tell me that they cant take care of them. I tried talking to the receptionist and she ignored me as I stood infront of her for 5 minutes. One of my babies passed because of the inflammation. Thanks for helping LSU.
