Backbeat Music Academy has an outstanding selection of teachers. Its such a pleasure to listen to the teachers play/sing and witness the kids develop their skills. My kids have worked with John, Dustin, Sal, Ian, and Dave. They each take a 30 min. private session per week and a 1 hour rock band per week. It is such a good combo for their development. I highly recommend doing both. Rock band allows them to learn multiple instruments, experiment, learn how to collaborate and jam with a band. Its fantastic.

My son has been taking drum lessons with John for 5-6 years and he loves every minute of his music making experience with John. He has a fun and varied way of teaching music which never gets staid or boring. He is an excellent all-round musician which allows him to create a jam-style environment for the student, so that they feel like they are performing and can freely express themselves without feeling self-conscious about making mistakes. We love his new music academy studios and would highly recommend Backbeat to anyone who wants to lose themselves in a love of music and learn to play an instrument proficiently.

I absolutely love Backbeat Music Academy. Cant say enough good things about it. It is so much fun. My teachers are all awesome. I have learned a lot in a short time. John is a blast and he brings life to music lessons and you feel his love and passion for music and what he does. Alden my private teacher is so funny and really listens to me and ask what I want out of each class and helps me attain it. And my band teacher Dustin is so Zen and patient. Each so different but yet makes each experience special. Through all of them I have come to learn that music is not about talent but really loving it and appreciating it and enjoying making music. Thank you Backbeat Music Academy and thank you to all my teachers. You are all great and hope to be a part of this music family for a long time.

My friend and I have been taking joint lessons from John for almost 4 years, and he is the greatest teacher and musical mentor I could imagine. He is inspirational, talented, crazy intelligent and FUN, FUN, FUN. His new venue is incredible-- really large and acoustically amazing, lots of privacy AND shared space for awesome artistic collaboration as well as individual training and learning. We could not recommend anyone as highly as John, his style and lessons have been life-changing, no hyperbole meant. Drums, keyboards or guitars, John is a fabulous teacher or mentor for all...

My sisters have been going to Backbeat Music academy for a bit of time and they absolutely love it. I met John at the orientation and really loved his passion and he had so much information to give. My sisters come home after every class so excited and practicing all they have been learning and telling all of us about their amazing experience with Backbeat and the teachers. My little brother is excited to soon start drums with Backbeat.

Cool new school in Beaverton! John at Backbeat has given our band some much needed guidance over the years. He has a doctors level of understanding of music with a teachers ability to communicate the best ways to learn it. Havent met anyone else yet that can custom fit teaching methods to the student as well as he can. Highly recommended.

I have been taking my girls to Backbeat Music Academy for over a month and I am so happy. My two teen girls have diff levels and learning styles and the teachers adapt to each one. John is so informative and his enthusiasm is contagious. They have private with Alden who is an absolutely amazing fun teacher that has already taught them a lot. And they have band with Dustin who is the most Zen patient teacher ever. They always have fun. Its always diff. And when John joins its a blast. I couldn’t recommend more. I absolutely love love Backbeat Music Academy and the teachers and as a mom I love how much my kids love it. They look forward to each class and rave for days after.

The best gift I ever gave my daughter was music lessons with John Lamb. He doesn’t just teach an instrument, he teaches music. The possibilities are endless. My daughter picked the drums to play but now is into multiple outlets. And that’s a great word for them. We learned that from John Lamb. Single or in a band, this is a great place to start. Different options and pricing plus flexible schedules makes this very doable for any family. Recommended!

My son has been taking drum lessons with John Lamb for almost two years. John has been a fantastic teacher and has an impressive depth of knowledge about music and everything related to music (he knows a great deal about many things and keeps lessons interesting—he once used an ocean drum to demonstrate the three phases of matter). He’s not just teaching my son how to play the drums, he’s reaching him how to play music. While he focuses on posture and technique the main focus is always on fun.

I absolutely LOVE my drum lessons at Backbeat! Going is the highlight of my week! I went from having zero experience playing music to being able to decipher sheet music -I had no idea there was such a thing for drums-and having a blast playing a variety of genres. Johns depth of knowledge in so many areas is truly astounding and I learn something new every week.

I started going to Backbeat Music Academy for drum lessons with John. He is a great instructor, highly skilled, very knowledgeable. I take 60-minute lessons once a week, in a very relaxed environment. My instructor answers all my questions, we jam together or play along to music, and plan out a practice plan for the week. He has even been willing to help me with other instruments, answering all my questions about guitar, piano, music theory, etc. Ill continue taking music lessons at Backbeat for a long time.

John has a very unique and thoughtful perspective on the musical experience that Ive never found in other instructors. Theres learning technique, and then there is coming to a deeper understanding with music. If you are looking for high level advancement in either of these important fields, I would recommend John Lamb.

My grandaughters have been taking classes with Backbeat Music Academy and its been great. Every day off I get recitals and they show me all they have learned and I can def see their improvement but what makes me so happy is to see their enthusiasm for their classes and teachers and for music. My youngest granddaughter is very shy and I love to see her out of her shell and feel so comfortable with her teachers. I also love the range of diff instruments they are playing. we found a violin and guitar at a pawn shop and my piano, that has been used as a table for my decorations, are finally having good use.

John is a great educator. Knowledgeable in drums, guitar, piano and a vast array of percussive instruments. Understands and communicates a functional understanding of the human body and its relationship to the instrument one plays. Always welcoming, helpful and philanthropic with his time. This is the best drum teacher on the Westside, period. Check him out.
