I was a brief customer when Ken owned the company years ago. He always made customers feels welcome no matter how much they spent. I bought a very budget guitar amp bundle, and neither him or staff ever treated me like I wasnt worth their time.My neighbor went to this location a few times and said he felt like they just didnt care at all. He would ask for a guitar to test it, and the employee would toss him a cable and walk away. No concern if he needed help or answer questions.Earlier this year I went in look for a beginner left handed guitar. First employee I talked to showed me a used guitar and let me test it. Once done, him and another long bearded man asked me if I needed help. I asked if there were any lower cost entry level left handed models. They gave me a basic price point. Can you please check if anything else is available? Neither employee would even look. Long beard employee walked off and the other employee quickly seemed to lose interest in helping me.Now I see why my neighbor said he will never go back. He was ignored and felt they dont want to help a beginner. This is exactly how I felt. Original owner Ken provided much better service.I ended up getting what I wanted somewhere else.Neither my neighbor or myself will return.

We sold some of my husbands overstock. They were awesome and made the repairs to some of the items and sold them very quickly! We also purchased a Fender Acoustotronic is amazing! The people that work there are also so knowledgeable and friendly! We will be back!

When you first walk into this store, you see that it is a high quality music store. Presentation is strong here and it has that wow factor that other music stores dont seem to have anymore. Five Star carries the best brands, have gear in all the price ranges and they have staff that are totally cool/helpful. I appreciated the safe practices they are maintaining with the pandemic in mind and overall my family had a great shipping experience here. We left with a custom signature series Fender that looks as great as it sounds. This is the store for your music gear needs. Check them out. Man I really need to go back for that Eddie Van Halen striped guitar. :)

Just bought one of the brand new Jazzmasters.. not in stores in Eugene.Great selection... Guitar was out of box and put on rack.... Setup was terrible, but I did it when I got it home.Nice people there and my Service Pup Rocky liked it too...... I highly recommend these nice people.I didnt need a clerk, saw the guitar picked it up and plugged in. They made sure I got the right gig bag and out the door.My new Jazzmaster plays like a million bucks. I say this at every music store... Adjust them a little before hanging them up.... A guitar that plays well will sell much faster. String height was different on all six strings.Price was good and I liked the sales guy. I will go back😃😃😃😃😃😃

All of these 5-star reviews for Five Star Guitars track with my experience. I drove 4 hours from Bend because they have a great selection of some of my favorites, namely Gibson, Taylor, and Breedlove. Five Star Guitars is a cut above. The store is open and welcoming. All the folks are very friendly and there’s no pressure and they’re not competing for commission. They let me spend quality time before I bought my new Gibson Hummingbird Studio. They suggested I try a private room, which has never been offered up to me when buying a guitar. But it let me really get to know the guitar rather than feeling watched or judged like you may feel at a big retailer. Likewise, there were no odd dudes shredding in the shop with no intention to buy. I loved that too! No offense fellow shredders!

Our go-to music store for lessons, instruments, service, strings, what have you. The brand selection has evolved over time, but there is always a big selection of electric and acoustic guitars available. I have purchased multiple bass guitars here, and have them brought in if a setup was needed. Staff is always friendly and knowledgeable, lessons are great.

I happened to serendipitously show up to a guitar stringing event when the whole reason I made the trip was to learn how to string my guitar having never done it before as a complete novice. They cleaned my guitar and changed all the strings, showing me how to do it along the way explaining everything. They gave my guitar 🎸 some much needed TLC and even tweaked my action levels. He gave me a rundown of what all the knobs and levers do too. They even had a representative direct from Fender demoing guitars and answering questions. Im very happy with this store and will make sure I get all my music gear from them.

This shop has some really decent people in it. I have spent way too much time in Five Star, recently, trying to decide between two or three non-high end guitars. The salespeople have been very understanding and patient. Also, their selection of the Squier Paranormal line is unrivaled by any other store I’ve been in. They also have very high end stuff, though. PRS, in particular, but also Gretsch, LTD, Gibson, etc. It’s a very comfortable place, with good staff. Check it out for yourself.

This is a fabulous place. Not only do they have a great selection, but they have knowledgeable and friendly staff who care about your experience. I went to Five Star Guitars to buy a new Breedlove for my birthday. Their staff let me use a private room and I played to my heart’s content. Never did I feel rushed or pressured to buy anything. They even changed out the strings on a brand new guitar for me! I did purchase a beautiful new guitar and will be going back to have all my guitars and dulcimers serviced at Five Star Guitars. I purchased a bass here and the staff were nice, place was clean, store was able to order the guitar I wanted. Only downside was the set up on my bass was not for my style of playing. It might be a good idea to ask a customer their playing style preference. The action was set so low (Less than 2mm) I had to raise the bridges to stop the fret buzz. Overall I would shop again, but would let them know my preference.

Ive always had great experiences shopping at Five Star Guitars and today was no exception. I stopped in to check out an amp head I was interested in. As an adult wanting to learn guitar, I felt overwhelmed by going into different small/big box retail environments. 5SG setup my guitar that had around 9 years of neglect and hard playing on it. They did great, and I am very impressed with the setup. It was a major improvement at a very fair price. I normally am not one to leave a review for any place, but Five Star Guitars and the employees that were helping me were amazing. I went in knowing I wanted to learn either Acoustic or Electric Guitar, but did not know which one. The employees walked me through both options and gave me their thoughts on which option was right for me. I gave them my budget and they helped me find an electric guitar package with all the essentials I needed within my budget. I am loving my new guitar and loving learning about how to play. Ive been shopping at Five Star for years and I have had every experience you can have from the store (sales, lessons, repair work, general advice, etc.). This is a place where the people care about your experience with your guitar when youre at home, instead of making whatever sale they can in the moment.More recently (during the pandemic closures), I needed to gear up with an electric guitar and some other equipment at a time when you cant just pop in to try different guitars and ask questions. Ive come to trust the staff and their expertise so much that after a conversation with them I bought a used Fender Stratocaster that was on consignment sight unseen for curbside pick-up and felt completely comfortable with the quality of what I would be getting. After getting it home and playing through my new guitar and inspecting it, my faith in the folks at this store was validated again. Theyve taken the time to know what Im looking for and I couldnt be happier with my guitar or my practice sessions.If youre looking for a personal experience with down to earth people that want to help you enjoy what youre doing and make it financially reachable, this is it!

Easily the best experience Ive had in a guitar shop. Everyone was not only knowledgeable but super friendly. At no point did I feel uncomfortable which often happens for me as a novice player.

I went here today with my fiancé and we purchased a guitar. The three men that were working, were very friendly and knowledgeable. I regret not getting their names to pay them credit where it’s due! My fiancé is a first timer, so they made him feel confident about his purchase and even offered advice on getting started. They really made us happy with our purchase. We had gone to Guitar Center just before coming here and not only was the wait time outside in line more than 30 minutes, but once inside the only 3 people working were not approaching us at all or asked if we had any questions after mentioning we were purchasing a guitar for the first time. They seemed rushed and said it would take a week for our guitar to ship. Even though we spent 30 more dollars than what we had intended, we would do it again because of the great experience we had as first time customers at Five Star Guitars 🎸 We will definitely be coming back!

Such an awesome store! I bought a used electric guitar and amp for my son and was worried I got ripped off. My wife and I decided to stop in and ask if they could take a look. I was embarrassed to ask, but have no experience with guitars.Luckily, Nate and Josh greeted us when we walked in and enthusiastically asked to take a look. Josh saw something that would be an easy fix on the guitar and took it to the back while Nate jumped on the amp and plugged in a guitar to test it out.After all was said and done, they recommended a new set of strings and said I’d be good to go. I decided to get a strap, have them install the strings and some cables for the guitar. Josh went out of his way to polish the guitar and Nate threw in some stickers and a T-Shirt for my son when he heard it was for his birthday.All in all, Nate and Josh are straight up legit guys with a passion for music that shows. Geoff is the owner and another legit down to earth, awesome dude.

I recently bought a 12 string acoustic electric but was without transport for several weeks. The folks at Five Star shipped the guitar free. (Note* this is advertised, but worthy of mention because they didnt say come get it ya lame-O)...no, instead they shipped it across town to me. Packaging was excellent. Also the Fender case for the guitar was missing and they took the time to verify that an upgrade to a different hard case was ok before shipment. That is just good customer service. Are they perfect??? Probably not. But every singe transaction I have had with them (since becoming a customer 9 or 10 years ago) has been handled perfectly. Thanks Five Star!

This is the first place I would go if buying a guitar, I have already bought two instruments here. The staff are very knowledgeable and the guitars are always set up well. They also have a very good repair shop.

Five star?? Id give them one star at the very most. They have a lot of high-end guitars, but if you are a beginner or somewhere in the middle and looking to replace a part on your guitar you might be met with a very snooty attitude from people who think that every piece of your guitar needs to cost two or three hundred dollars and be custom made. This place is probably great for some people but I would say not for the majority of Portland area guitarist!!!!

👍🎸I was really impressed with a customer service tonight. After my son’s guitar lesson there, I noticed that my car battery had been dead. I went back into the store. I was desperate to find a someone who could jumpstart my car. I asked a five star guitar shop clerk if there was someone who could help. He was very helpful and went to every classroom to find instructors who could help. All of them were busy teaching. He then asked the other clerk, named Ed. He willingly came out to the parking lot in a cold night to help start my car. My son and I were so grateful for his kindness. If it had not been for the first clerk and Ed’s help, we would have had to ask strangers for a help in the darkness. Thank you so much. You guys rock! It is truly a 5-star guitar store! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Took my son and his guitar in to get re-strung this afternoon, and Nate spent time teaching us how to re-string it ourselves. He was personable, patient, and that simple interaction will keep me coming back for all my guitar-related needs for years to come.

The luthier just isnt skilled or professional. Ive brought a handful of guitars in for service or repair. Simple service always takes an extra week in the slow season. Estimated repairs take 3 times as long and always cost alot more than estimates. Im still having problems with instruments that should be dialed in by a pro.....I couldnt be more disappointed.

These guys are the best! My daughter takes voice lessons from Ray and guitar lessons from Michael. They’re both awesome. Everyone who works in the shop is so friendly, too. It’s like a family there. They’re all really knowledgeable and everyone there is a musician. They definitely don’t try to rip you off. They’ll find the best thing to fit your budget. Go here first!

I have respect for these guys being a local music store and staying in business for so long. I remember when they were a small little shop at the corner of Cornell and Walker. And they do have a wide selection of guitars. But unfortunately, I have had so many unpleasant experiences with the staff there. They can be too pushy or not help you at all. Some times too much of a I know better than you attitude. I dont have much faith in guitar repair there either. I had a nut worked on before there for one of my guitars and after I ended up taking my guitar to a guitar repair downtown to get it fixed properly. On my last trip there, I wanted to buy a guitar part and they wouldnt sell it to me unless I brought my guitar in. Just sell me the freaking parts. Some people have things to do and they dont have time to come back.

I am super pleased by the service and hard work these gentlemen continuously and generously offer! They have more than helped in my complicated endeavors and were willing to go the extra mile on the house! They have the best prices and the best service! Walk in looking for some new strings, walked out with not only that, but also great information. Now my guitar sounds great and my bridge didnt fall off.

We bought our son a junior sized guitar from these guys. He messed around with it, like a toy guitar for a couple years. When my son was 14, we sent him to five star for guitar lessons, he always looked forward to it. We ended up buying a full sized fender guitar and case. Now at 16, he spends hours learning new riffs. Five star fueled the fire for my son for many years now. They are really great.

I have been a customer of Five Star Guitars for about 10 years. I have seen how the store has transitioned from one owner to another and how management has evolved through the years. As mentioned in couple of reviews prior to mine; Dont let your guard down when buying instruments from this store.I have had many interesting experiences with no fully functional instruments. Teachers are great, however, front desk customer service is not the best and sometimes terrible. To give you some examples: the front desk should not be downgrading or saying things about their music teachers, better dont hire them. The account management for your music lessons is not well done and lessons get messed up. Be sure to be on top of your account. Front Desk wants to charge for initial evaluation class where everywhere else is free, sometimes teachers move-on and you get a last minute call with a class rescheduled with another teacher. Having a new teacher is a new start requiring evaluation which is not free, and others.After 10 years, I have decided to move-on to other pastures. Tired of dealing with the front desk.

About a year ago I was in the area and thought I would stop into their new (to me) shop. (I bought stuff from them when they where in tanasbourne and my youngest took drum lessons...anyway... Thinking old owners) I was looking for a cabinet for my amp head and possibly a new guitar. Long story short, I spoke with a couple gentleman in there about different things. Each time I was approached by them. The first guy, once I told him I wasnt interested in PRS guitars basically tried to wrap up the conversation quickly and promote his luthier for one of my guitars. As I was leaving past the amps and cabs... I think the other guy saw me and started asking what I was looking for... I told him I what I was looking for and he kept trying to push something else or not actively listening to what gear I had. Basically he kept trying to sell me an amp with an effects modeler or line 6 or something... Anyway he must of not like my responses because he basically cut himself short and walked away mid conversation. So guys the reason I didnt buy a cab that day was the fact I had my car with me... Needed to go home and grab a truck. You had some good deals... However I thought your behavior was rude and quite honest, offensive. I could have bought it and said I will be back in a bit, but your attitude... I politely left, called my wife and told her about the weird experience. She said, dont you remember, having that experience with them before? I didnt. Now here I am looking for more gear... And I remembering where not to go. BTW when I was there, the store was dead... Being around noonish and all. The good, your store is clean, and good open space and a nice selection...

Made a purchase today at the Five star guitars in Tanasbourne. People working there are really nice, friendly and helpful. I went in to buy classical nylon string acoustic guitar and they had a decent collection. They gave suggestions and reccomemded which are the good ones to buy and how they differ from others. Technician fine tuned the action and checked the guitar overall before I made the final purchase. They match online prices and buying guitar in store is always better than buying online.

Amazing customer support, locally owned Portland small business. This is my favorite place to look and touch the best of the new and the old classics. I bought my first guitar from them nearly 20 years ago, and Ill keep coming back.

I just recently found this shop and I am already impressed with the staff and their selection of items. I will be looking into lessons for my son soon.

I shop its self looks amazing, and everything is spread out and not cramped up, with a lot of selection. Me and my bf had the worst customer service ever, and this has happened a few times now. We went to go get some simple parts, were helped pretty fast, then he told us he was going to go check to see if he had any in the back, and that was the last we heard from him. We waited 15mins for him to come back, then realized he ditched us to go help another customer, didnt even bother to tell us, so we left empty handed, probably wont shop here again. If I had done this at my job, I would have been in big trouble

My son has been taking guitar lessons from Mack for over a year and loves it! Now hes starting on keyboard too. Were happy with all our purchases and the service too.

This is probably one of the best shops in the Portland area. They will match the price of any other store. The dudes working there are all down to Earth, and the first time I bought strings there they let me change my strings on their bench and use their stuff to clean up my bass. Excellent shop!!!

Bought a older sigma acoustic from goodwill it buzzed and had high action .I brought it in and Geoff recommended a nut and saddle change with an adjustment. His guitar tech Ian was very knowledgeable about guitars and set it up perfectly. My son was so surprised at the play ability of the guitar. When I brought it in it was almost unplayable.
