There are a lot of reasons why this place is so great. I can specifically speak for 10A. The nursing staff is wonderful and kind and eager to help. They are quick to help their patients and do it with a smile. The people make this place! There are also currently nearly 800(!) volunteers total in the hospital that are there specifically to make patients stay more comfortable. The volunteer program is well organized and that shows by the level of training and scheduling. And the view of Portland is awesome!

I am lucky enough to never have needed any services here but have visited the facilities and am in love! I cannot believe how well maintained everything appeared and just how large in scape everything was over all. While it is quite a trek maneuvering around on foot, and it can be some what of a hazardous drive if you prefer you own vehicle, the public transportation available is great. And do not forget the SkyTram is an option, if you want a little more adventure in your day. And maybe cost, since it is only free one way. The hills and dead ends abound here, so be warned! But do take in the scenery and just general serenity while you visit if you are able to.

The actual care I received was great. Its the billing office that is a huge problem! Even if you pay your bill, most likely youll receive another bill as if you have never paid.I contacted the billing office (politely) and faxed a copy of the cancelled check. Although there were assurances the matter was resolved, another bill appeared. Again, another call to the billing office and the matter was resolved. Now, Ive just received my third billing for the same visit that was paid for over three months ago. What does it take to get the message across that once the bill is paid there should be no further attempts to collect on a satisfied debt? Unfortunately, I will have to move my care elsewhere.

The billing is ridiculous. I went to the ER in Jan and received my bill in Feb. I paid what I owed. Now 4 months later Im looking at my account and it says Im past due 120 days from that visit. I call and try to talk to someone and they tell me oh that first bill was just the doctors fees. This bill is for everything else. Maybe someone could have mentioned that? Obviously I assume the bill I get in Feb is the entire amount. Not only that but they say they are still talking to my insurance and it might actually be over twice the amount listed! My ER experience wasnt exactly amazing either. After waiting nearly 3 hrs to be seen, I was put in a room and left alone for over 1.5 hrs while I writhed in pain and all the nurse could do was give me a blanket until the doctor saw me.Im cancelling my appointments there and changing insurance. Providence has its own issues but its way better than this factory.

Its sharp looking and looks super clean. I fell in love with the amazing artwork!! The staff was very nice at the front desk but when I dropped off my brother in law and walked him to his room at 5:00 a.m. I felt like his nurse was all business and a jerk!! I understand people have bad moods but as I professional myself I dont ever treat my customers that way. My brother in law was extremely worried and stressed and I wouldve liked to see the male nurse take a second to acknowledge my bro in laws stress and actual eye contact wouldve been nice to see!! He was there overnight and they did take great care of him!! That was just one jerk on the 6th floor!! Anyway it was an exciting place to go. Getting people to sign up as donors. Since theirs a mass shortage of donors! Then herb finds out he has cancer and ends up fighting for his life again thru chemo & radiation treatments only chased the cancer around into more invasive areas until finally he passed after fighting for his life for 14+yrs after the docs gave him 6mo. To live. He was my father figure as i had no father he raised me well but after he died in november 2005 I died and ill never be the same again. Maybe i can help like he did. Fantastic treatment, if you have good insurance. Prepare yourself for conservative medicine if you dont have the financial backing to be an appealing patient. My mother visited repeatedly, suffering from abdominal pain. A CAT scan would have show immediately that her appendix was ruptured, but it took three visits before an intern (not a doctor) managed to get the tests performed and diagnose her properly. She was hospitalized for 8 days before they agreed to perform surgery. I overheard a doctor (names omitted to protect the rat bastards) saying that they needed to get her out; she was costing the hospital money.I stayed with her as long as I could. Two hours after my flight left, they sent a 71 year old woman home alone, in a cab. Policy wouldnt allow them to do so if the drainage tube was still in place, so they pulled it out. They decided she didnt need a walker, shed had a whole 36 hours to recover.Im sure that OHSU has helped many people in the Portland community (and they have some terrific nurses), but I will never forget my experience, nor forgive the callous treatment shown to my family.

This process is much harder to go through here and has so far taken a month. We just received our financial aid packet and at the same time a letter stating we were being sent to collections in 10 days. This was beyond frustrating. It seems for a facility packed with so many brilliant minds and sick people, there would be a system in place to prevent something like this happening and a bit more Grace for those in difficult situations, especially when weve been doing everything theyve asked us to do. Love the doctors bedside manners, even though it took a little getting used to an entire team of people surrounding me during morning rounds. The private room was cozy and roomy for my large family and friends who visited. Food service was really my only disappoinment. My experience at OHSU was, in a word: Bizarre. Ive never seen such a case of a doctor being completely oblivious to what their patient is relating to them. Dont know if its a case of initiation into the getting medical treatment while economically shaky club or not, but I can definitely say I was never treated this way when using golden sparkly medical insurance. There are things that were written on my medical chart that I never said. I pointed out these inaccuracies in response in email, but they werent acknowledged with any sort of relevancy. These things were written as a result of a doctor who clearly wasnt listening to and/or acknowledging most of what was being said to him. It really blew me away, that there could be such a place. They dont seem to know of a world outside of their own existence, and refuse to believe there even is one. Thankfully, there is an opportunity to return to my prior doctor, who was most caring, wrote doctor visit notes that pertained to actual doctor visits, and treated people with dignity and respect. So glad of that. So, so glad!

Absolutely the worst patient service I have ever experienced. I was a patient at OHSU and have gone through seven surgeries and over forty office visits. Almost all the staff, doctors, nurses, etc were absolutely great. Except for one, he not only mislead us, we were lied to and threatened by this doctor. Now I am in a pain management program and will be on opioids for the rest of my life. Plus we owe OHSU for co-payments and a nerve generator that never worked and was removed. Unfortunately we found out that if everything goes well, it is a great establishment. If not dont waste your time trying to reach an agreement. You will go through their Patient Relations Department, and then if any money is involved then it is turned over to their Risk Department . As this turns out, not knowing the legal process, I was mislead by them. OHSU is well aware of the legal aspects involved in these cases. The only thing they seemed concerned with is how much will it cost them! Not once did they offer to reduce or refund any charges. They didnt even offer to send me to their pain management program. If you have a problem dont contact them call a lawyer! I could go on for quite some time with everything that went wrong. If you doubt anything in this posting please google, OHSU law suits, and read some of issues. I wish that posting this negative review wasnt necessary but for now it is my only option. Nobody at OHSU will step up and resolve my issues.

WARNING- MENTION A PROMPT PAY DISCOUNT WHEN YOU PAY. DO NOT PAY ONLINE!My wife cut her finger cooking and needed stitches. We went to OHSU because they were the closest hospital. We had to wait over 2 hours to be seen. She was in pain but the nurses wouldnt give us an estimate of when the doctor would be there or do anything to comfort her. When we eventually did see a doctor they didnt stitch her hand correctly and it had to be redone. We ended up being at OHSU for close to 4 hours for a procedure that should have taken 20 minutes. We have health insurance through my work, but we got her bills in the mail and they were much more than we were expecting and our insurance was useless. When I called to explain how unreasonable the charges were, they said there was nothing they could do. She then went to see her new family doctor to establish a baseline of care at their family clinic, and they charged us another $200 for a visit which should have been covered under preventative care. When I called in to pay for that bill and explain my frustration with their system, I was told that I should have just asked for a prompt pay discount. If you pay your balance in full, you get 15% off but only if you call in and specifically request it. If you are having an emergency and need a hospital to go to that will give you prompt attention at a reasonable rate, keep looking. If you are stuck with an outrageous bill from OHSU despite having insurance, DO NOT pay on their website and dont pay the person who first picks up the phone. Ask to be transferred to the billing department and request the prompt pay discount. They wont tell you about it otherwise. I got 15% off for my smaller bill (that should have been covered by preventative care) but nothing for my large emergency room bill because they are much more concerned with profits than they are with patients.

I explained what could only identified as nerve pain. In short the Neurologist told me that I imagine the pain to be worse then it really is since I had a traumatic brain injury. Wrong! I asked for an MRI and the neurologist proclaimed that insurance would never pay for it because its not justified. The only criteria for an MRI is if I was a surgical candidate and Im not. Flash forward MRI ordered from my pain center Dr. shows I have a disk herniation in my thoracic spine that is compressing my spinal cord and venous plexus. Ya all in my mind, because chronic pain is not enough for an MRI and yes insurance paid for it. I will never forget how poorly I was treated at OHSU. I wish I could put negative a million stars. My father died here April 5th, 2017 at the age of 56. The hospital admitted him as the wrong patient when he arrived unconscious. By the time I arrived after driving 10 hours he was in a full blown coma and was being treated as the wrong patient. My dad remained in the ICU until I finally got them to stop teaching their students with his sick dying body. Aside from a few beyond outstanding loving and caring Employees this hospital is untrustworthy, unprofessional, and dangerous. I would never willingly take anyone I care about to this hospital. They made mistakes that can never be erased. After telling them repeatedly that I did not want lifesaving measures knowing my fathers wishes and his prognosis I was judged and questioned for not wanting the students to practice techniques on him any longer. They refused to discharge and readmitt him as the correct patient. They had already mixed my dads new information in with the wrong patients medical records. My dad couldnt even die with dignity and respect. If youre ever in the position I was at 22 years old with little guidance or assistance from the hospital ask for the palliative team. Theyre supposed to offer it but never did. Apparently theyre supposed to be helpful. Miss you Dad. Wish you didnt have to die in such a terrible place.

Even though this completely contraindicates her current medical condition. My mother has liver disease so the idiot doctor wrote her a prescription ibuprofen prescription. Im not a doctor but even I know this is malpractice. Liver disease patients are not supposed to take NSAIDS or ibuprofen period! Aside from having to wait 7+ hours for the doctor to tell her that she may have torn a muscles and write her a dangerous prescription the experience was great! I dont care how busy your ER is, if it takes you 7 hours to see your patients theres something wrong. My mother was sick and fatigued, so they made her sit around for 7 hours to see a doctor. Their excuse, we have a shift change. Pathetic! I can only wonder how these doctors would feel if their family members had received this sort of health care. Coming from an institution which is billed as one of Portlands most prestigious I had to laugh at this assertion. Health care is more than a label and a degree, idiots!

One of the worst hospitals I have been at. I dont know who this lady was or even what position she held. I do remember her name however ( Deanne) she was very rude and when we asked when our brother could get some water she had us do it. I asked her why she didnt do it. She said we could either wait or we could do it ourselves!!! I was like what???? Is this a joke? Its her job to help patient ,but we the visitors had to do her job for her. He is in ICU and is that really how they treat patients here? Really? I did ask her if that isnt her job? Shouldnt she be doing this?

Having renal cancer & now a brain tumor, I have had MANY scans, all different types to. I have had them at the Providence Hospital in my hometown which is a few hours from OHSU, St. Vincents Hospital & OHSU Hospital. OHSU was a great experience. Im that person who kind of panics when getting MRIs because of the confined space, but they made me feel better & confident. The wait was short, the young gentleman who prepped me was very kind & the imaging lady who does my scans was so nice & caring. I will have to get frequent scans for life at OHSU & have no issue or reservations about going there.

I dislike giving OHSU a two star review. But as a current patient who just suffered a tonic clonic seizure, hospitalized. Im a little shocked that as a long time patient of the neurology clinic I am told to wait 2 months for my appointment... after Im told to see the neurologist ASAP.... upon calling the clinic the nurse essentially blows me off suggesting I might have a sleep disorder.. highly unprofessional, unethical. A bit shocked actually.

My disabled son showed up for his dental appointment and was turned away because they didnt have access to one of his test results. Considering he had a broken tooth, was in a lot of pain, and hasnt been sleeping at night, and asked no questions at scheduling to indicate there would be a problem, then offered no assistance that would be helpful, nor would they allow him to be seen for pain management until he could get the issue of the test sorted out.It was a very bad experience for him and a horrible way to run a clinic.

Ive been bouncing from one elitest, arrogant, OHSU Doctor to the next for years. Despite a select few (Otolaryngology and Rheumatology are exceptional Drs), theyre all too full of themselves or unwilling to listen, to actually help me. If a patient is ill, without any easy diagnosis, it is either the patients fault, the doctors fault, or the systems fault. It is easier to dismiss or blame the patient than to admit fault for OHSU and most of their staff. I hate OHSU. An unsupervised resident botched my femoral nerve block during a surgery, they watched me lose 60lbs of mostly muscle in a matter of months dismissing all of my attempts at communicating that I am/was getting ill, they refuse to put the time and effort in that it will take to diagnose somebody without a textbook illness. Overall they have caused me more harm then good.

No family or friends to take care of me. Told I couldnt have any HOME HEALTH CARE for 3 weeks, after discharge . REFUSED TO TAKE MY ADVANCED DIRECTIVE! VOIATED MY HIPPA RIGHTS by contacting someone from medical records 3 years ago, did not contact my person that was at my HIP revision surgery throughout!. P.S. YOU CANT SUE OHSU. I HAD MEDICARE & REGENCE BC/BS, they didnt care, pay $500.00 per month health insurance coverage. GET SURGERIES BEFORE YOU GO ON MEDICARE, BECAUSE YOU GET SCREWED... I thank ALL that was involved in the procedure, I would not hesitate if there was another surgery.

After 5+ hours the ER person.doctalked to an 80+ year old man like he was another doctor. talked way to fast as the man was waiting for so long he fell asleep and was not all there.... mentally. Then after having him drop his pants to see the catheter the doc opened the door. DOESNT OHSU HAVE PRIVACY FOR PATIENTS.?I stated to the doctor either pull up his pants or close the door! I ended up closing the door. this young Doctor was in to much of a hurry to get out it was bulls***. made my father feel like crap for even coming in. In the last 60 days my dad has been in and out of OHSU hospital and and was near death on 2 occations, as well as major BP issues. Also the ecoli my dad got was from OHSU. this nearly killed him.People need to slow down, actually listen every once in a while, and dont start thinking of an answer while your patient is talking. Then i had to interupt a bull crap Session with the nurses, when i asked for the IV to get taken out of his are so we could leave. Then one wanted to then come in the room and do a make shift check up on my father.Where was she an hour earlier when we were sleeping in the room?why? the doc did already.... somewhat.what was her look going to do? what a waste of time.I am retired military, and wasnt treated in this manner in my 22 years.Do no harm, listen, help..... careI was a director of a counseling center, people you need to learn from this.caring is a basic Fundamental of the J.O.B.before this 6 hours of hell, it was nearly 5 stars, and many of your staff are in fact excellentRoger

HMMMM..... OHSU is rotten to the core. They are scamming us. Said our hospital bill would be $1500.00 but it was upwards of $7,000. They failed to provide written documentation of a pre-approval for in network benefits. They are such scam artists and us little pee-ons cant do anything about. Share this, maybe someone will listen! The Oregonian? Its disgusting what medical facilities and health insurance companies can do to people with no consequences.

I worked for OHSU for 3 years. OHSU is a hospital that has many silos and upper management refuses to bust down those barriers. When I say upper management, I mean executives who have the power to enforce change. The union (ASCME) that supports the workers within OHSU are not leaders. I find this to be the issue across the board, too many followers and not enough leaders. I can guarantee that if someone truly whistle blows and show how their employees are treated, they would lose a lot a business. Dont be fooled that everything is going good. Because you see an adobe stock image of some happy people on a brochure, doesnt mean everything is peachy. CHH 2 would not get those beds filled! In defense for some managers they are overworked and stretched very far. Doctors are stretched as well and you can tell how the appointments are stacked.Let alone it is a cluster f*** on the hill and they charge some of the hardest working citizens a whole body for parking. I think it is like 15 bucks a day! I worked in logistics so I was constantly in and out of units so I seen and heard everything. Employees are very, very, very unhappy! Of course if asked on the spot, employees tremble with fear because they fear they might lose their job. You feel and see the classism everyday. Hard work should be rewarded in ways that keep your workforce motivated. Motivation will never happen if you have finance guys sit behind a desk and just say we dont have the budget. That is a famous line that you will hear. My department wouldnt even order a mouse pad. On top of that we would bust our butts to put away medical supplies and they gave us chairs from the trash to sit on during our break. Oh, Im sorry surplus. On a good note, I love my family medicine Doctor! All in all if you wont to work for OHSU, get your money, help a few patients and get the heck out of there. There are some places that will trample your soul in the dirt and this is just one of those places! Oh yeah dont let them full you with this diversity crap either. As an African American male it is hard to move-up.

The care I had by DR. Hills was great and he always responded to my messages I emailed him which was very helpful. What was not helpful was the staff who ran the front office. I have IIH that cause severe headaches and blindness if not treated. I started heavy doses of medication and had a lumbar puncture last year, I moved states and needed to get on OHP which was taking months! I am now 17 weeks pregnant and heard of the side effects of the medication for my baby so I havent been taking any medication for over 4 months. I had to cancel one appointment and missed the next one because I could get approved on OHP and I couldnt afford to pay up front, I finally got approved today but when I called, they said I could not longer schedule any appoints because of the ones I had missed. Finding a Neuro-ophthalmologist isnt easy and it will take them months to get me in. Meanwhile my headaches are awful, my vision is getting worse every day and I am worried about the effects that is having on my baby. Its frustrating that they are not understanding of the OHP situation and the countless hours I spent on hold trying to get through to someone. To deny care to someone who has been trying and desperately needs some help is very heartbreaking, even when I was crying to them asking them if there was any way I could still come since my insurance would be backdated the first time I had to cancel and they offered no support or compassion. Of all the great things I thought of OHSU, this has changed my mind on so many. Its not like I didnt care and just didnt come, I was trying everything I could to get there and make it happen and it just makes me sick.
