This place is everything I dreamed of. In the 4 months Ive been coming, I can feel immense increases in functional abilities in my body across the board: strength, mobility, range of motion, agility.... I leave every class feeling amazing. Peter is the most perfect mind/body teacher I could have hoped to find. He pushes me just right to expand my abilities. The classes have people of all body types and abilities and Peter creates routines that serve everyone. Plus, they can be pretty fun! I feel so lucky to have found Soja.

I found this gem while googling dance classes. Not sure how I ended up here but am very glad I did. Peter is a fantastic instructor and made me feel very welcome and comfortable. I went to one of his self defense classes and learned a lot. The space and style of teaching was so inviting that I decided to sign up for his Primal Power class. So far Ive attended one class and was not disappointed. We worked on a variety of self-defense movements and exercises that will develop skill, coordination, strength and confidence. I would recommend Soja to anyone of any age and skill level. Plus there are other adult classes to check out as well as kids classes.

My experience with this school and owner Peter has been absolutely positive. I attend a Wednesday night martial arts fitness class. If you want to get a work out in that incorporates a lot of functional training, check this place out. They offer other classes as well.I did attend a Violence Dynamics weekend seminar there in November of 2018. The instructors there were Rory Miller and Terry Trahan. They were extremely professional, knowledgeable, and bought plenty of experience sharing their stories of why they teach exactly what they teach. You will get your moneys worth with their program and furthermore be doing a service to humanity preparing your mind for facing danger head-on if need be.

Soja is a great place to enter into a variety of fitness modalities, but they all revolve around mindfulness, balance, and a sense of positive awareness. Lots of individual attention and camaraderie. Theyre upping their game at the new Berkeley studio, its truly exciting to be part of a community in formation!

Focus. Respect. Awareness. Confidence. These are the Soja rules to live by. What kid (or human, for that matter) doesnt need this in their life?

My 12 year old has been taking classes at Soja for about two years and he has really blossomed! We had struggled to find a sport or other physical activity for him, but this has been a great fit. He enjoys the exercise and has gained a lot of confidence over his abilities both in Kung Fu and just in general. Peter focuses not just on the kids technical abilities in Kung Fu, but also on how what they practice and learn in martial arts can be extended to the rest of their lives. Jacob is also an excellent teacher and has also provided excellent instruction and guidance. You are getting much more than a Kung Fu class when you enroll your child at Soja.
