Outstanding scene study class, I am so glad I joined. Spectacular work being done here on a consistent basis. Ive never been so inspired to work hard and put up scenes. Ive also never been so engaged watching other actors work. This class is challenging in the best of ways. BHP is also a great community of welcoming actors and doers. So happy to be a part of it.

I had the chance to attend the Film Festival and it was so beautiful to learn how BHP supports and encourages their students to create their own content and build their own doors. It was really cool to see some people dress up for the occasion, share refreshments and laughs. I really love a number of the films that were presented. Everyone was so creative and most of all it was so awesome to see the students supporting each other. Definitely looking forward to the next one!

The Beverly Hills Playhouse is by far the best acting school in Los Angeles. Not only do the instructors teach specific ways to get what you want as an actor in a scene, they teach you how to become that working actor in LA. I have watched people transform as actors because of the teaching at the playhouse. The teachers are incredibly giving and understanding people who are always in your corner. The other actors are warm, inviting and not competitive with one another. This is a true artists community. I would recommend the playhouse to anyone; from someone who hasnt acted a day in their life, to a pro on a major network show. This is the place to be to keep your instrument sharp!

I have been going to class at BHP for almost a year now, and I gotta say, it’s my favorite place. The teachers, location, and quality of the training is top notch, but what really cinches it for me is the community. I am so honored and humbled to be a part of such a motivated, talented, and kind group of actors and artists. I always look forward to class, even when I’m not putting up a scene- which if you’re an actor, you’ll understand why that’s high praise.

The Beverly Hills Playhouse is an excellent acting school.I’m foreign born, but I feel BHP is my second home.Teachers are direct when giving you feedback. However, they always give you their point of view from a constructive perspective. Furthermore, you’re encouraged by them to repeat your work if necessary.I truthfully appreciate the initial casting session, where teacher and classmates recommend plays/movies to read/view and bring to class. As many actors know, finding your casting in the professional world is critical. Here, you get it in a safe and respectful environment. Also, what I like the most from this school is the camaraderie from fellow actors. You are not competing with them. Instead, they all feel joy when you succeed because all of them try to lift you up. There’s a lot of teamwork and encouragement going around.

Where do I start. The Administration staff is so professional and informative. The instructors here are really like life coaches. Its so hard to find a place of education like this! It’s filled with giving, passionate, and wise people of the industry. The cherry on top is the affordable price of this school, it feels like I’m stealing money from this place!

I loved going to this school. I was in the intermediate level as a part of the scholarship program and unfortunately I couldnt stay after it was over. Either way it has improved me so much. Michael and Art always want to see how you are feeling and if there are any questions that they can help answer. They really do make that class feel like home.

I have been with the playhouse for 2 years now, and my life has changed completely. As an actor I have grown tremendously, due to the professional working Actors, Directors, and Writers who have been my teachers and mentors. I dedicate any success to the community of professional artists that surround the Playhouse. Its rare in Los Angeles to feel like you are apart of a community, at the Beverly Hills Playhouse you have the strength of everyone who came before you, the community now and the support that will bring you into the future. If you want to be a Professional working Actor/Actress in Los Angeles, New York or San Francisco, The Beverly Hills Playhouse is the place for you.I cant wait to meet you!-Sarah Jessica Bennett

An amazing place to delve into some of the deeper concepts of stage craft. They have classes for all levels, so if you are just starting out on your path or if you’ve been acting 20 years, they have a spot for you. Very knowledgeable and professional teachers and an amazingly supportive group of actors frequent the school. 6 stars out of 5.

In my opinion, The Beverly Hills Playhouse is one of the finest acting schools in the world. It is a great place for actors to learn their craft. Not only is the teaching first rate, but also the culture and the philosophy of the school really does support the actor in his/her journey to make a career in the industry, while also growing as an artist.

Practically psychic teachers. They see all you need and explain it to you thoroughly while letting you safely try it all till you get it. I’ve seen it happen to so many actors. Truly brilliant performance notes to make you stick out a cut above the rest of the actors in town. Unique, unpredictable acting is taught. And work ethic and strategy is carefully paid attention to also. Allen Barton knows it all- he enjoyed a long term apprenticeship and then operations partnership under Milton Katselas who studied under the greats of acting himself- you name it, he did it. Milton ended up directing some of them in movies too. Name some of your favorite actors of all time and chances are, they’ve been through the classes at the BHP. Allen runs it all now and deftly continues the legacy.

I have been acting for more than 20 years and trained at many schools. The Beverly Hills Playhouse is the first school I’ve attended that has a major focus on the administrative side of being a WORKING actor. If you just love to act and do it as an avocation, I can’t in good conscience knock any particular discipline, but if you are or wish to be a full-time actor, the Beverly Hills Playhouse is a must.

I started classes at Beverly Hills Playhouse in May of 2014. As I look back, I regret not going to study there sooner. I moved to L.A. from South Florida in late 2012 and wanted to find a studio I could call home but I got so busy with my non-industry day job that I was delayed. This is the place to study for serious actors. You get a lot of value for your money in terms of classroom time; fair critiques; consults with the instructors; and student resources including study rooms, an online communication forum, and instructor blogs. It is a safe environment in which to study and you can even periodically showcase other art forms (playing instruments, dance, reciting poetry, singing) you may practise. I like that the school focuses on developing well-rounded artists. I have become a better actor since starting to study there. I can tell by the types of things I am booking and being called to audition for. The school has a great reputation in the industry and the list of well-known alumni tells only part of the story of the real impression it will make on you once you enroll.

I believe that every person has a different way of learning and doing. Acting isnt any different, it is your art, express it the way you want! The Beverly Hills Playhouse helped guide me in this business. LA is a different playground and I believe it is important to surround yourself with people you can trust that you know believe in you and want to help you. Not only does the BHP focus on acting but also the business side of it all as well. Setting up Casting Director workshops, helping students with getting their head shots, audition classes, seminars demonstrating how to navigate through this great, big scary entertainment world and providing a safe place to create and express. This is a community of actors, including the instructors, coming together to create beautiful art and push you to get out of your comfort zone. I attended this school for 3 years and the progress I saw in myself through the knowledge I gained and my talent was amazing. This place will always be the foundation of my career out here in LA.

I have been studying at the Beverly Hills Playhouse for five years now. I love the structure of class and the high quality work that goes into the scenes. All of the teachers are fantastic. Allen Barton, Art Cohan, and Gary Grossman have taught me so much over the years. I appreciate that they teach you not only how to act but also how to have an acting career. Everything I know about acting administration I learned at Beverly Hills Playhouse. I also took Art Cohans audition class and I book so much more because of it. I love this school!

The Beverly Hills Playhouse is a truly special place to study acting. It should be the first place any serious actor visits when looking for classes in the Los Angeles area. The instructors are passionate and invested in their students. They work hard to provide students with the direction and criticism that will help that particular student, wherever they are in their acting journey.Above all BHP is a community of driven and talented individuals. The students make the school a safe, welcoming space for artistic growth, and nothing feeds a new, or old, actor like the relationships you form with your at times challenging but always passionate peers. It is an inspiring place to study. Enrolling at BHP was a turning point in my artistic development. Its a place to push yourself, to bend and sometimes break, knowing that you will be not only a stronger actor but a stronger person as well on the other side.Visit the school. Meet the people. And then youll know.

If you want a competitive edge in Hollywood, BHP is the place to develop your acting skills. Teaching at BHP happens in a very organized way, based on your past acting experience & training, you are placed in the orientation, intermediate or advance class, which means that you get to rub shoulders with students of equal or better skill level, thus removing the intimidation factor for the newbies.Allen Barton, the owner of BHP, is not only a fantastic teacher, director & a musician (piano), but also a very big supporter of all things creative. Among many other things, he has willingly let me & many other students exhibit our paintings at the school. The students at the Playhouse are very friendly and supportive. Here you get to meet and learn from many successful fellow actors who have been in the industry for many years.I would highly recommended this place to all who are serious about becoming professional actors.

I moved to LA one year ago to pursue acting. I had been attending a liberal arts college and was living on my own for the first time. My second day in the city, I started class at the Beverly Hills Playhouse. The stage manager was warm and welcoming; She introduced me to people who were also new to class, and we became fast friends. I was shocked at the level of work that was going up in my orientation scene study, and it made me really excited to get to work and participate in class. I’ve been in class for almost one year now. LA has challenged me, but the BHP community been a consistent source of support, encouragement, and inspiration. BHP teachers create a safe environment to explore the craft and give clear critiques that I have found incredibly helpful. They also go the extra mile to hold you accountable to your goals. I love this school!

Let me preface this review by saying I dont believe there is one universal way to teach/learn acting. Every actor is different and it is incumbent upon them to find the environment that is most conducive to their forward progress. The Beverly Hills Playhouse may or may not be for you, but it is absolutely worthy of your serious consideration as you look for an acting class.Id say its a career center as much as it is an acting school. In addition to your scene study class, you will have free access to exclusive seminars about the industry (thats right, folks, being a professional actor requires a lot more than being talented), you will have access to workshops with casting directors at half the price you would pay elsewhere, you will have teachers who care about your success (and who will demand it), and you will be around actors who work professionally (I cannot overemphasize the importance of this - you can learn a lot by paying attention to successful people).I could go on and on but the bottom line is this: I have been a student at BHP for several years now and I am better off for it. Period. So check it out. And wherever you end up studying, best of luck to you.

Ive been at the BHP for 4 years now, and its the best training Ive had in my life. I went through full time conservatory training and it was a great experience but it was not a focused enough training on what we as actors experience in the real world. What I love about the BHP is its focus on the actual work, it is not about doing exercises or any type of written component (thank god), it is about what to do when you get a script, how to prepare, how to perform, and how to BOOK! It is about actually acting, getting up in front of people and doing scenes! When I started, my credits were non-existent, Im now regularly booking TV work and testing for networks and have great representation. So, for me, the results speak for themselves. I highly recommend the school to anyone.Luke Cook

I’ve been attending the Beverly Hills Playhouse for just about four months now, and have grown tremendously in my time here. Allen Barton took over the school from the late Milton Katselas, and has done everything he can to preserve its history & spark the new generation of us actors. My teachers Mark Gantt, Leila Vatan, Allen, & Michael Yavnielli all have great insight, and care deeply about the students. If you want to join an ongoing scene study class, give BHP a shot!

BHP has saved my life, in more ways that one. I started acting when I was a kid and have studied at many different places, tried various methods and experienced so many styles of teaching. From day one, I knew that BHP was where I was supposed to be and I could never have predicted just how special of a place it would become. Ive studied with BHP for several years and Ive never met a more supportive group of teachers, staff and students, alike. At this school, they really push you on your career administration and they want you to BOOK and keep on booking work! Being part of such a motivating, well-rounded and grounded community is extremely helpful in the Entertainment Industry. BHP provides the most creative and professional atmosphere. I highly recommend anyone interested or currently working in the industry to check this place out. Many of the students are multi-faceted, so, if you are interested in directing or writing - or any portion of the arts, really, BHP will help you pursue whatever route your heart desires! If I had known about The Beverly Hills Playhouse prior to college, I would have saved myself and my family a lot of money. I have the academic theatre education and many workshops under my belt, but none of it compares to, or has prepared me more for work in Los Angeles, than The BHP.It is the most comprehensive approach to the craft I have ever experienced, incorporating technique, attitude, and administration. Not to mention the amazing amount of support you receive from your peers. I doubt there are any other acting schools with students so wildly, and truly supportive of each other. If it wasnt for the BHP I may have given up years ago and returned home the way so many of my friends have. But through my years at the BHP, I have grown not only as an actor, but now as a producer with an up and coming production company. I would have never known I had that capacity without the BHP, the amazing teachers, and the unbelievably talented and supportive students.I recommend this school to anyone and everyone I meet who is serious about finding an acting school that knows how to hone talent and create working professionals.

BHP is a special place if youre looking for a supportive community of passionate actors and creative types, if you have motivation and initiative to take advantage of all the great resources made available, and if you are ready to commit a lot of time and energy toward developing yourself. This isnt for the casual hobby actor. I found the beginning weeks of class a hard pill to swallow, wondering at times if I had stumbled into a cult. Over time I realized no, this is a supercharged group of talented people. Theres a need to crack open your brain and let what they teach seep in. If youre not doing that, youre not getting the benefit of studying here. Theres some unique and fresh approaches to acting laid down by Milton Katselas that are carried on after his passing through his books and through students/teachers who have been around BHP for decades. My purpose for seeking out and joining BHP was for what Milton called admin which refers to taking the reigns for your own life and career. BHP provides guidance and coaching from folks more experienced than you to enlighten what kind of steps you may take to get some traction toward starting an acting career. Theres business in show business and this might seem a mystical thing for most folks like me whereby the career motion doesnt start until you score an agent lottery ticket style, however BHP challenges you to put yourself in motion so youre not wasting time looking at the clock wondering when youll magically be represented. This is done with tangible tasks and goals with a nice support mechanism of fellow students who hold each other accountable and celebrate wins (such as having an audition, getting a role). I havent seen this level of camaraderie in acting before. And theres advanced students with career established who continue studying at BHP to keep sharp, expand their casting, continue to grow, and share their knowledge and experience with others. BHP is indeed a special place.
