Ive been going to Barry for 15 years. First with my son and currently with my daughter. Barry is one of the most kid friendly teachers Ive had the pleasure to meet. He makes learning martial arts fun. Lots of encouragement along with constructive guidance.

Whatever your initial thoughts were finding this Diamond in the Ruff, Sensei Stephens is a true-to-life-study providing his personal professional instruction and guidance to the youngest of young thru mature ages... Your youngster will find consistent positive reinforcement and confidence building that can be a life multiplier to any parenting strategy. A great place to start at any age and guaranteed to bring a smile to any parent spectator ... Simply a great extra-curricular activity that provides whole life mental and physical fitness... HEY - I am not related or have any motive in this review other than telling you like it is as my then 6yo is now an 8yo and this is a bi-weekly event he looks forward to participating in. Time and Patience wins....No matter what. Several years ago(about 5 or so), after a 20 yr sabbatical I started training in Karate again, with Barry Stephen....I trained hard---went from 200lbs in January to 120lbs in May....Yup---lost 80lbs in 5 months!I eventually began teaching for Barry(I had a blackbelt in two other styles from years previous). And working out even more with him.He is good with kids, and over the years, has drastically changed the facility(total remodel---looks AWESOME now)Barry and I had our differences, and after a year apart, I called him and started working out with him again---I am glad I did....Its great to be back training with him one or two days a week...Here is what you get when you work out with Barry:1) Classes----He has plenty of them---enough to hold your interest and accomodate your scheduling2) Education---Barry has a BA in Physical Education, and is a certified fitness coach. He has competed in Martial arts, played semi pro Baseball, and is well rounded in fitness and what works and what doesnt work.3) Cost---While he isnt the least expensive game in town, there is nowhere that you can go that has the variety of classes that he has---and its all one price---if you go to one class a week or 15 classes a week! Plus he has weight lifting equipment as well4) Fitness? Loose weight? Well, I am a testament to that! I can tell you that with commitment, and a couple of hours a night, you should lose at least 20lbs a month! Again, I am 52, and when I started back into Karate, I weighed 200lbs...January 3....then by, Memorial Day Weekend, I was down to 120lbs! I am now currently about 110lbs, and have maintained my current weight for more than 4 yrs!5) Got kids? You couldnt get a better instructor for your kids----Barry doesnt believe in handing out blackbelts just because you hoof over some $$$$$.....He makes your kids earn it....Period. They have to work hard---not just there, but in school and life as well. He believes that Karate is a lifestyle! not just a belt!So, there you have it! Check him out!
