Bottom line: This gym is world-class!My job requires me to travel, and as a result, I’ve been lucky enough to train at some of the most renowned schools in the world, with UFC champions (*not* bragging). Still, I have to say, the level of instruction and skill I’ve seen at SMAA, from everyone, has been top-notch and rivals every school Ive ever been to. They genuinely have a great thing going here, and I’m super stoked about joining the academy. Try a week, and there is no way you leave without signing up!

Ive struggled with losing weight for years and have tried gyms, diets, online programs, etc. I decided to check out SMAA because Ive wanted to do martial arts since I was a kid and at 29 I thought it was better late than never. I was embarrassed by my weight and intimidated about going to a gym where I didnt know anything, but I thought Id check out a few martial arts gyms. I went to one class at SMAA and lets just say I didnt check out any other gyms after that first class. haha. From the minute I walked in I felt welcome, encouraged and was amazed by what we were learning. Seven months later and 45 lbs lighter, Wayne and our SMAA team has changed my life! I look forward to class every day, love the people and Im growing in this incredible art. I think often about how blessed we are to have this caliber of gym in Shreveport/Bossier. Its awesome that Ive lost weight, yes, but learning Jiu Jitsu is a gift and one of the best decisions Ive ever made. Im so glad I went to SMAA first.

I’ve never learned so much so quickly.My daughter has been in the kids class for the past two months, and I loved watching her grow and get better every time. I recently joined myself, in the adult class, and I’m loving every minute of it. Everyone is super accommodating, welcoming, and knowledgeable. I was super out of shape, and after just a week, I have more energy, I feel better about myself, I’ve made a couple of friends, and I’m learning so much about Jiu Jitsu. My fiancé introduced me to this gym and I am brand new to it, I am on my second week, however everyone has been extremely welcoming. I had horrible anxiety about joining but once that was made clear the females had made me feel extremely welcomed and made sure they worked with me so I would feel comfortable. Everyone there is extremely patient with you when you’re trying to learn the gym etiquette. It’s family oriented so that makes me excited since I just had a baby and she will be Spending some time up there. Also the coach is super knowledgeable and has an amazing way of explaining something when it doesn’t make sense originally. Overall so far it has been an awesome experience and I cannot wait till I can go to another class every day.

Phenomenal learning environment regardless of skill or experience. Every class is structured, methodical, and focuses on learning the proper techniques. Wide range of skill levels so everyone fits in and gets good work. Instructors, whether professor Wayne or otherwise, are great at conveying technical instructions in reference to the learning material of a class or a technique/position a student may be having difficulty with.

Been going for about a month now after being convinced to try jiu jitsu from some friends here at this gym. At first I was hesitant and unsure of how the guys and gals would treat a “newbie”. The group of people that go here have all been awesome and willing to teach and welcoming with every roll. Coach Wayne is a great instructor and every class has been great. We have been training as a family of 4 for a little over 6 months now under Coach Waynes instruction. I can honestly say that it is the best decision we have made as parents for our boys as well as an investment in ourselves as adults. I trained at SMAA / Soul Fighters Shreveport on / off for about two years and it was always a highlight of my time in Shreveport. Honest, hardworking people started this place and it continues to be a welcoming, challenging place to train and get fit. The people that train there are genuine and supportive regardless of your experience level. Professor Knudsen is honest and fair and gives outstanding feedback. He makes all his students feel confident and welcomed. He constantly encourages students to push themselves to be their best version on and off the mat. There several ladies who are excellent to train with as well as kids classes -- take the whole family! Several families have made this gym their family hobby and for good reason. BJJ is a great sport and this gym is showcasing the best for north Louisiana.

A great gym with a good vibe. The instructor is high-level, teaches systems, and pays attention to the small details that can make all the difference when practicing BJJ. He doesnt just pay attention to the upper belts, but makes sure the white belts are learning and doing it right as well. The students work to lift each other up, and know when someone needs to be pushed or when they just need a little help on techniques or positioning to get better. Highly recommend.

The classes are large some times, but somehow he always manages to correct every person on the mats and even as a visitor, he made me feel like I am part of the team.
