After spending 3 months sitting for 3 hours at the time in the dental chair (about 12-16 hours of my life is literally wasted), nothing was done to my teeth. The treatment plan that I was uncomfortable with was pushed on me as the only option. When I start questioning the necessity of the treatment to that extent and cost. They basically showed me the door.I dont know the cost yet but pretty sure I wasted about a 1000$ of my dental plan on these consultations achieving nothing and receiving no treatment. They even refused to address the tooth that actually hurt and the reason why I came to them. Refused to provide any further referral suggesting to find a new dentist myself. Stay away from this place unless you want to waste your time as the study material for the students, not even to treat your teeth, but to fill the carts and take dental x-ray correctly. They probably can deal with very minor tooth issues like some decay on the single tooth, but be ready to waste a lot of time. The most uncomfortable, depressing and draining dental experience in my entire life. They really dont care and dont respect their patients at all.Quick update: The treatment Tufts was pushing on me was definitely not my only option. I found different dental clinic that took care of my teeth for only 1/20 cost of what Tufts Dental was insisting that I need. Dont trust everything your dentist tell you ask for second opinion and only do what you comfortable with.

I would advice NOT to get a root canal here. Had a root canal done here then went to see another dentist at another location to put a crown on top of my root canal and even the other dentist stated that my root canal looked abnormal. Called tuft back to let them know that I was still in pain and that the dentist didn’t feel comfortable placing my crown until he talked to someone at tufts. The dr or student dentist (I think her name was Jocelyn) at tufts stated the pain and the root canal was normal. A couple months later I am still in pain. There was no follow up appointment after the root canal and I can honestly say they don’t care about their patients. Imagine paying money to STILL be in pain.

I need extensive dental work done at this point, removing all of my remaining teeth and having implants placed. I was quoted $40,000-$60,000 locally. At Tufts the same exact work is going to be just under $10,000. It is true that I have had many appointments before I have had any teeth even removed but they were all vital. X-rays, an MRI, impressions, etc. Ive worked with the same student every time and she has been nothing but professional and courteous. After any exam, x-ray or impression she gets her work signed off by one of the instructors. If it is not perfect then the instructor will have her do it again. I am confident that I am receiving the absolute best care. Some of the downsides are having to drive into the heart of Boston, fight traffic, pay for parking, having to wait for a free instructor to check the students work and the appointments take a little longer since the student is still learning. I consider all of those cons very minor due to the fact that I am receiving stellar care from a very prestigious school at a fraction of the price I would pay locally. The student I work with calls or texts me with any updates including cancellations so that I might get a sooner appointment and one of the doctors personally called me from his cell phone when I had an urgent question. I cannot say enough good things about my experience at this school. It is very well worth the time and money. Just be prepared to spend a little extra time here compared to an established practice. Which is nice since the students only see 1 or 2 patients a day so you will never be rushed out of there or have them running behind due to a large amount of patients scheduled in the same day. They do validate parking for the garage across the street so the most Ive spent on parking was around $12, not terrible for Boston. I think this place is well worth looking into if you need any dental work done.

Dr. Patel & her manager from Enthodontics are very unprofessional. Please do not go here if you are trying to get a root canal done. They left my root canal incomplete without any proper aftercare and now I have a very bad infection in my mouth. After reaching out to get an appointment about this the manager was very rude and condescending, telling me I could not get a new doctor even though I feel uncomfortable and UNSAFE with the care of DR.PATEL. Poor value. I had an implant at Tufts. It cost over $4000 and took many appointments. When I needed another implant I decided to get a quote locally. I was surprised to be quoted under $3000 for essentially the same procedure I had at Tufts. The local work was done without Boston traffic, with less pain, cheaper and much more efficiently! Please dont assume you you will get better value at Tufts Dental School.

Went in before Covid shutdown to hopefully get dental implants. I went through all the needed prep for proceeding (i.e.) out of pocket $1070 full mouth xray, numerous molds of my mouth, many appointments) I was quoted $58,000 for full upper implants and partial implants and crowns on my lower. I was trying very hard to figure out financially how I could afford this, I am turning 60 years old and didnt want to work till im 80 to pay this off. Then the shutdown happen. I was contacted once they could start seeing patients again. I went in and went over other, more affordable solutions to get the smile Ive wanted my whole life. I was looking into getting a snap on upper denture for $11,000 and wanted to just get full lower denture. I could live and be very happy with this. I texted my dentist that I financially had the money to proceed 2 months ago. CRICKETS. No response as of today. I even called and spoke to the department and they were going to let me know what is going on. Still CRICKETS. I sent her another text today with no response. I just want a beautiful smile and for some unknown reason they dropped the ball. Im calling Harvard School of Dental tomorrow 🌞🌈 What a waste of time and money.

Please proceed with caution. I’ve done extensive research prior to becoming a patient and hoped to have the experience the community praised about. Unfortunately. Patients are held to a policy to attend appts, however, staff are not held to the same policy. Patients appts are confirmed several times and then canceled last minute. The concern for how patients arrange their time and money, based on confirmed appointments are not taken into consideration. I am displeased with how this school does not respect the time, money and energy of their patients, who are needed for the residents experience and education. My appointment was canceled last minute, 2hrs prior and my scheduled appointment time. No accommodations were offered or considered. Not even an apology. There are other schools in Boston that are more expensive but worth the time. I will be transferring my records to a different school of dentistry

A complete waste of time and money. I sent a complete document of medical history, specialists previously seen, and prior strategies and medications attempted, a week before the appointment. The dentist I saw only asked me questions I had already answered on the document, then suggested methods that I had already tried. When I told her, she bulldozed over me and ignored me. It became clear she was ill prepared for the appointment and/or the issue was beyond her expertise. She had a thinly veiled attitude of condescension and even berated the resident in front of me. It became clear to me that her poorly thought out advice was pushed upon me because how else could they charge me $280, full well knowing beforehand they had no way of helping me? An unfortunate scam from what I thought was a prestigious school. They did not return the email of complaint that I sent them. Go anywhere else.

So they made him wait around for an afternoon appointment to take care of the tooth with a big gaping hole in it. Except the endodontist said its unrestorable and would have to be yanked out. But the endodontist doesnt want to do the extraction, they wanted to schedule another appointment on a different day so my spouse has a gaping hole in their tooth this whole time and spent a whole day and the hole and the pain are still there! and they want him to come back again just so they can send him home with a missing tooth and it will take years to get an implant to finally replace the unfixable tooth

I dont know what theyre smoking here but the WHO (World Health Organization) recommends that routine dental visits be postponed until COVID-19 is under control to help protect dentists and their patients.Oral health checkups, dental cleanings and other preventive care should be delayed until transmission rates drop in communities because dentists work in close proximity to patients’ faces for prolonged periods of time. “Their procedures involve face-to-face communication and frequent exposure to saliva, blood, and other body fluids and handling sharp instruments. “Consequently, they are at high risk of being infected with SARS-CoV-2 or passing the infection to patients.” Aerosols can lead to “rapid contamination of surfaces and potential for the infection to spread,” WHO said.

I have had 3 implants, 3 gold crowns, 2 root canals, bone augmentation surgery, fillings, cleanings, etc and saved a ton of $$. You do not save time. 2cd largest Dental School in America, best care possible. Great if you have a lot of work to be done, think half retail for fancy things and even a bit less for cleaning & filling.Completely professional and expert care, super nice facility and admin people. Validated parking in the garage is not free, but cheaper than regular. Some of the nicest smartest young people in America becoming doctors are something to be proud of, every part of America is represented in the students, and every part of the world in the faculty. There are caveats: 1. They are a school, and the students work in 2.5 hr sessions 3x a day, so any appointment is long. 2. First 1-2 meetup sessions are full exams depending on your number of issues, then they will do work. 2. They do not force you to have work you need, but they do train dentists to create a full treatment plan for you and explain where you are at dentally. This is great info that some might think is pressure. It is not pressure. 3. If you drive there, expect jams.

Left my private dentist to come to tufts and tufts did a way better job. Appointments aren’t rushed, so give yourself plenty of time. Tufts dental school really does a thorough exam and takes the time to explain everything they’re doing with their complete team of experts. However ask yourself do you really trust a student working on your teeth? You’re taking a risk especially if you’re getting any major work done. I qualified for an exam but after the exam I feel my tooth is worse. Could be the work wasn’t done right. It’s a risk you take. But I believe it can get rectified. Just have to have patience going here if you’re not in a lot of pain.

Its not a scam but its not the correct place for anyone needing actual dental work done. Sure, you save 50 percent of the costs. The question is do you value wealth or health?appointments run three times a day: 9am 1pm and 4pm. They last three hours long. Absolutely NO work will be done for the first two visits, and yes, they are three hours long.first visit - sign paperwork, meet staff. (hopefully) get xrays and have the student dentist go through each tooth and determine the scope of severity of your mouth.second visit - youll meet with an admin who has worked with the student to help come up with a treatment plan. they go through tooth by tooth, recommending how to correct. They come up with the cost and specifics of what to do. you sign more papersthird visit - they start by taking a walk around the floor to look for an admin to card swipe the PC. personally, Ive waited over an hour for the first swipe. sometimes its instant /when you arrive, not likely though. They will talk with the admin about what tooth they are going to work on. the admin approves, and leaves the student to work, with very little oversight. But before we finally start getting to work, we now go to take fresh xrays, also a lengthy wait process. On average, one filling (if that) will be completed per visit. Usually not and they stick a medication gauze pad to cover the work area and sends ya home.I personally do not mind the wait - what drove me away is their unprofessionalism at addressing issues and concerns in correcting their mistakes. They are super negligent at updating your records. Every visit seems to be like the first visit. i went to each appointment, that started with the endless wait for a card swipe to the PC and then some xrays. Partial work on a tooth requiring multiple visits. The process got stale quick.I had tooth 12, just next to the front top teeth, worked on. They shaved away too much of the buckle plate /near the gumline on the inside edge of that tooth, causing it to rotate and wiggle when biting, causing an off bite /not right feeling. the adjacent tooth now applies pressure on the tooth they damaged, causing it to rotate or bend /twist or something. They had a conversation of this on front of me, explaining the mistake but did not include this in my profile notes or anywhere in their systems. Luckily, i pay attention and reached out to another student dentist who was able to temporarily correct the issue. He confirmed between tooth 12 and 11, the dostol-mesiel side, rotates slightly. All other staff since deny any ocvurance and blame phantom pain....? luckily i save receipts and text messages. Your experience may differ.

I was told that I need a written referral from a dentist, I explained that I have no insurance and am paying cash. Great but still need a written referral. Then we can book a consultation, that is going to cost you $175. Wait I need to pay $145, then see a dentist at a cost of at least $150 to get a referral and pay another $175 just to see someone? Yep. Ok can you give me an idea how much it would typically cost for a sinus lift and bone graft, no sir you need to make an appointment. SO first off if anyone out there is wondering what is wrong with the medical and dental care in this country read the above, what I wondering about is this a school of dentistry so why do I need a referral and have to pay for a consultation. She was great, i like her. everything else was just a hassle. i waited a decent amount of time, walked around the place. they treated the tooth, but i needed a root canal. I couldnt at the time afford it. so i just settled for a pulplotomy. I didnt have dental insurance either. So i leave. Months later, i get calls about how i need to call them back, they never say why. which i didnt plan on going back its too far and i need to figure out insurance first. Come to find out right before my account goes to collections that i needed to pay an extra 80 bucks. Which confused me, they told me that i had to pay everything up front before a procedure. they gave me the cost, paid it, they gave me an itemized bill saying the cost, and i asked, is this it? to which they confirmed, yes. before i leave i ask again is everything all set, and they yet again confirm. So where did that extra 80 come from? So, i call the guy who takes care of bills. He was a bit short with me as i tried to explain i dont know where this bill came from. and that i confirmed with the front desk about my bill to which he said doesnt matter. he starts listing off my charges but refuses to explain what they are for. unfortunately, i lost my itemized statement and just paid the 80 to get it over with. I dont mind paying, but damn, I dont like surprise charges with 0 explanation on what they were even for! especially when this is a place where you have to pay everything up front. it made no sense! However, i had no proof on my end. My first lesson on keeping your itemized statements close. Make sure you find out what exactly you are being charged with, and why, get your itemized statement and file them away.

I ended up with an infection and feel the instruments they used were not sterile. I only wanted one implant where a tooth was just pulled, not two implants. No communication on what the patient wanted. I told him I did not want two implants and that I just needed one tooth to chew on that side. I would have put all of this information on Tufts patient feedback site or filled it out as a follow-up patient care questionnaire, but neither seems to exist. As a teaching institution, this seems strange. As their website says, you get high quality care at Tufts. And yes, the number of appointments that are required are tough but a small price to pay for their reasonable rates. I have to keep in mind, though, that I am basically a practice dummy and that my mouth is the student dentists classwork. This has meant that patient communication and chair side manner is often lacking. Sometimes I go to appointments not knowing what is going to be done. Sometimes procedures that were done the previous appointment are done again with no clear explanation. I think I got my teeth cleaned 4 times in 4 separate appointments. Clearly cleaning is important but it seemed inexplicable (and wasnt explained) why 4 appointments were needed. Mistakes like broken molds require another visit that puts off treatment for a month or so. Crowns may or may not be done (which could happen for any dental procedure) but there seems to be no system for calling patients to let them know that the appointment should be cancelled for a later date). Trying to confirm or cancel an appointment is almost impossible on their phone system. Although the students who have worked on my mouth are very nice individuals and are clearly well-trained and competent, I have often wished that they would communicate better what work they are doing as they are doing it and communicate what the next steps will be in a more collaborative manner. I guess what I am saying is that I wished I was treated more like a person with a dental condition than a dental condition that happens to be attached to a person. Finally, beware the dragon at the front desk. Its her job to collect money, but asking for print outs of procedures performed, charges made and paid, and any insurance payment is met with a rare form of hostility that is magnificent in its passive aggressiveness.Again, however, Tufts is quality care at a reasonable cost.

Horrible experience with my wife. Totally unprofessional staff who half of them working there cannot speak or understand English. My wife is Asian but has lived in the United States for over 25 years and has a high position with a very well-known fortune 500 Insurance company. She was referred to Tufts based on a referral from our local dentist for a second opinion for dental implants with intentions of possibly obtaining a lower cost due to this place being a training school for upcoming dental professionals.Upon arrival at Tufts, the staff immediately assumed she was unable to speak or understand English. Ignorance from the start! She was treated as though they that she was there for free care which it appears, they do much of that there based on what I personally seen. Great that they offer this type of service, but not everyone who goes in there is coming in for free dental work. Multiple staff that my wife encountered asked if she understood English even though half of them themselves could not speak English. Very degrading and obvious sterotyping from staff including shockingly by the actual dentist. My wife witnessed what appeared to be gossip among staff about patients being treated or waiting to be. Unfortunatly we could not understand what they are laughing about amongst one another because again most of them do not speak English but yet ask patients if they can? Unprofessionallism at its best on display at this dump. When finally meeting the dentist who we thought for sure would make our experience so far a little bit more pleasant. No way! Same poor unprofessionalism! From the actual dentist mind you!The funny part..... After this dentist at Tufts finds out who my wife was and that she was there based on a referral from a prior student now with his own successful practice, referring for possible implants and not free care, she attempted to backtrack her initial poor attitude by building rapport as best she could. Again, ignorance and unprofessionalism at its best!It was a little to late by that time. My wife already made her decision that her dental needs were well beyond the scope of this fly by night clinic.Needless to say, we were expecting a professional exam, and professional treatment as well as follow up from a professional staff based on the referral. What an embarrassing and truly shameful set of circumstances from a well known college like Tufts. They should be embarrassed to have unprofessional people like this representing their school.Maybe the school itself should not be a reflection on this dental training area but it is certainly not a good impression at all. We will be sharing our horrendous experience with our personal dentist with the hope he refrains from referring anybody else to go to tufts in order to maintain his own reputation. That would be in his best interest now that he is practicing privately. What a complete waste of time visiting this place. Even if the dental procedure my wife needs would be thousands less here, we would rather pay $40000 more for services from a more reputable specialist who at least can give us some assurance that the work will be done correctly and safe in a clean professional work environment with employees who do not sterotype patients and remember that we are why they are in business. Dental providers are a dime a dozen so professionalism is a must. Not just in this business but every business.

I didnt have to worry about going to another section of the clinic or to adjusting to another doctoral student.I had complete confidence in the dental work at the clinic because the doctors, in the various specialties, were constantly checking the work to insure accuracy.Thank you Tufts for the opportunity to have some badly needed dental work done at a very reasonable price.

Horrible time with dental student who called to cancel the day of the appointment to reschedule several times. I asked to speak with her supervisor but never received a call. Even the person at the appointment desk tried to help but the process dragged on for months and they finally reassigned me another student and had the audacity to send me a letter notifying me of the importance of keeping up with my dental appointments. Not professional.

Well I can say that I had my first visit with this place and it was fast, easy, and the soon to become doctors explained everything to me without attitude or rudness I will be coming again. from the Women at the front desk to the Doctors I had a good experience here the only reason I gave 3 stars its because I havnt got anything pulled out jet so can talk unon a non experience. But everything else was awesome.

Ive been seeing Dr. Lytle at MCA (now BU Affiliated Physicians) for 4 years now. Its always pleasant to go in for a visit (as pleasant as a doctors appointment can be), whether its planned or unplanned. The front desk is constantly busy and it can take a short wait before they get to you, but dont mistake that for rudeness.

I HATE this place.I needed a root canal back in October. Its May now and I just went for my 14th appointment. Keep in mind that to get the root canal you have to suffer through anything else they deem necessary. I had one additional cavity and a small chip on a front tooth both had to be done first.Today I went for another cleaning that had to be done and after all the excessive waiting for instructors to check off procedures we didnt even get to the cleaning. Are you kidding me? 3 hours isnt enough time to get some teeth cleaned??I used to like going to the dentist, now I have nightmares, really bad ones. Thanks Tufts, youre so awesome!I still have two appointments (multiply that by 3) before the end of this hell but at this point Im considering just cutting my losses and getting this fixed by a real dentist. Ive been living with most of my tooth missing for so long now. I feel like crying.Dont go here, just dont. If you dont believe me then read some more reviews. They all sound spot on, I wish I had read here first.

I have been a patient for almost 3 years trying to complete my implant process. I have paid thousands of dollars. I have had to come back several times because i has not been right, The office does not communicate or answer there phone. Each time i go the office manages to find more money I owe. After every visit I always paid what I owed. I have gone through 3 doctors to complete this process. Im at my final stage and have been back and forth several times I need so much work done, but due to the lack of communication I will not return after this!

When I found out I had to have my wisdom teeth out, I went to a private practice down the road from where I live in Vermont. I heard great things about them and they were true; they were very kind and helpful. The consult showed all four teeth were impacted and only one was slightly erupted. They set the date for January 9th and the price at $3,000(!!!). I have no dental insurance yet this seemed very steep. I looked into the waiver from the state and it would be months before I could even be seen by the only oral surgeon in the area who accepted the waiver.Thats when I decided to look into Tufts. My aunt had work done there and said they were phenomenal. I was a little worried about students working on my teeth, being a student myself, but it would be worth the two hour drive if it was cheaper. They reccommend being there at 7am to sign in for the 9am clinic. I got there at 8:30am and was seen promptly at 9. The student that saw me was great and asked all the preliminary questions before the teacher came in and checked all his work over. After the formalities of the clinic, I was brought up to oral surgery. The student that saw me was just as awesome. We went through much of what I had already been asked and a new teacher came forward. Just by looking around at the teachers, one can tell they are all very experienced and love what they do. This particular one made sure to allow the student to lead while stepping in with things she forgot. I was given way more information about the surgery then I had been told by the private practice doctor. The Tufts teacher also noticed I had a slight infection, which went unnoticed in Vermont! I was there for a total of three hours, with no more than 30 minutes of waiting at a time. My appointment is set for January 8th (even though I went two weeks later than my first consultation!) and the price is $1,300!! I will have the same anesthesia by IV as the private practice.Everything about my trip was completely worth my time and I recommend anybody who is skeptical to trust this hospital! Knowing that you are assisting in the teaching of future dentists and surgeons only sweetens the deal!

Very dissatified with the care recieved at this university...i will say the first student i had was excellent but she graduated and i was assigned a new student who did not care about my dental care as much as he cared about his requirements. he was not educated on how long other processes take in other departments and as a result the game plan on me changed several times resulting in my loss of insurance allowances for that calendar year. as the end of year came and the crowns had to be resent out and did not come back in time for placement. I was also told by the new student following this one (he was graduating now) that the repost i had upstairs did a bad job on my tooth...(this information was given to me without my even asking about tooth). I was always seen by the instructor on staff each visit which all had different opinions on the care to be provided ... so if you are lucky enough to get a good student you will do well, but if you are not, you are taking the chance of damage instead of good dental care.

I have been under care at Tufts Dental School since Feb. I went in for a partial. I have been told numerous times now why I dont yet have my partia,l but none of these senarios make sense, and I still dont have my partial. The young woman who is working with me called yesterday stating that I should not keep todays appointment because she needs to talk to her supervisor about me.My last appointment was May 10th., and they were going to call me when my partial was back from the lab. No call. I called them some time ago for todays appointment which is now cancelled. Now I am teaching a class, and I have gaping holes on either side of my canines.

Ive been a patient at the Periodontics Department, the Department of Oral Medicine, and the TMJ clinic at Tufts School of Dental Medicine starting in 2003. Ive never been a patient of the General Dentistry Department.I have insurance and so I dont go to Tufts to save money. I go to Tufts because I feel I get superior care. I feel that clinicians at Tufts have the time to do a more thorough job. In the past I have had private dentists do unnecessary work on my teeth. At Tufts they seem conservative and cautious about that. In the past some of my private dentists have failed to notice obvious problems with my teeth and have misinformed me. At Tufts they seem very careful to diagnose everything completely. Both students and supervising doctors have always taken all the time necessary to answer my questions to my satisfaction.Ive been a patient at a number of private dental practices, a patient at Tufts, and also at 2 other dental schools. Whenever I have the option, I always choose the dental school over the private practice and Ive always had great results. But dental schools are not for everyone. You will spend a lot more time travelling, waiting, and you will go to more appointments to get the same work done.Compared to other schools, Tufts is a very large operation. It can seem a little impersonal at times. Some of the departments handle large numbers of patients. Learning to navigate the appointment, insurance and billing system can be a challenge for new patients. The billing aspect of the Tufts Dental School has been frustrating for me at times. But Ive learned to keep extensive records of all my interactions and to seek answers whenever I have any doubt. Ive had no problems since I started doing that. Some of the reviewers felt the clerical staff were unpleasant. I have found most of the clerical staff have been very competent . They have demanding jobs and they are often quite busy. So sometimes they might not hold your hand. I try to have a little sympathy for them.I dont think any of the students are there to figure out what they want to do in life. I think they are already very clear on that Compared to other schools, Tufts tuition is very high. Acceptance is very competitive. All students seem serious and committed to making successes of themselves in dental medicine.Students working on me have consulted with their supervising doctors before working on me and their work has been evaluated when done. I dont think anyone there is learning by trial and error.Everyone seems to practice thorough sterile procedure. There seem to be a lot of safety and hygiene policies in place. Clinicians wear lots of gloves and masks. There always seems to be a lot of hand sanitizer available for staff and patients. Sterile procedure is a simple thing to get right and I think many medical providers fail to do so. I think Tufts does a good job with it.The student assigned to care for you will eventually graduate and you will be assigned to a new student provider. Ive had many different instructors supervising my student providers. But Tufts seems to have a good computer record keeping system and procedures and I feel the continuity and consistency of my care has been well coordinated by the different providers.Ive always been able to get a parking spot at the parking deck. I travel from Framingham. I always make my appointments for the middle of the day to avoid rush hour. I always allow at least 75 minutes travel time.Be nicer than you have to be, listen carefully, ask questions of both your student dentist and the instructors until you understand fully. Keep records, arrive early, and bring something to occupy your time. You will find a lot of wonderful clinicians who care deeply, who are excited about what they are doing, who work together as a team, and who want the same thing you do, superior quality dental care.
