Eric is a fantastic teacher. He has a lot of experience and even for those who have been dancing for a while he introduces new patterns and combinations which keep things challenging. The classes move at a good pace and he helps out those who need it during the lesson. You can either dance with a dedicated partner or rotate.I would recommend these classes for those looking to keep their dance skills sharp and also expand to new patterns.

We have had classes over the past 2 years with Marcela and with Eric. They have both been wonderful. During, and now, as we come out of the pandemic, they were creative about continuing to offer classes (outside and in small groups). The classes are fun, low-key, and inspiring - we look forward to salsa every week!

I used to go for salsa dancing and I really enjoyed it. But when I read about vaccine requirements it makes me wonder. Since I dont have a partner I can not go because Im not vaccinated. People behind vaccine say that vaccine wont prevent from getting Civid-19, but it will help you with the symptoms. So what protection do everyone get from vaccinated people attending salsa dancing?

I just finished taking some private lessons with Eric and they were just great. He is very easy-going and patient. He carefully observes you and makes sure to point out what can be changed or improved, but always in a fun (and never condescending) way. Hes easy to talk to and fun to dance with. Im excited about putting everything into practice now, and becoming a better dancer. I wont hesitate to contact him again for more lessons in the future. Thanks so much, Eric!

I have been taking classes with Eric for about six months, and have also taken private lessons with him. I am learning to follow and to lead, and he is great at teaching both. I didnt realize what I was doing wrong as a follow until I danced with him in class one time and it made a world of difference. He is also really good at breaking down certain moves when you are trying to learn how to lead. All of the teachers provide a really fun learning environment and a great attitude towards dance.

This Dance Studio is wonderful! - head and shoulders above any others weve tried. Ive learned from at least 5 different instructors and have even enjoyed lessons from the owner (Eric). Everyone is super nice, supportive, and effective. I enjoy the lessons and have made it a regular habit - to become a better dancer and to have fun meeting new people. Salsaville goes out of their way to provide a convenient comfortable environment and to ensure a good balance of leaders and followers. I look forward to doing a Cuba trip sometime in the future and I recommend this outfit to everyone I know that might be interested in learning or improving their salsa skills.

Our family has taken several classes at Salsaville Dance Studios and love it. We have learned a lot and appreciate the instructors. They are talented dancers and are great at breaking down the learning process to make it easy and fun. It is nice to know that private lessons are also available, as well as drop ins (if we have a friend who wants to join us for a class). When we email Salsaville with questions, they have replied immediately ~ Thanks for the great communication in and outside of class!

I began Salsa classes a few months ago with Salsaville Dance Studios, Eric Freeman. It is one of the best decisions I’ve made! The instructors are professional and knowledgeable, yet friendly and approachable with their instruction. Not only are there progressing classes from Salsa basics to Cuban Casino and Rueda, there are also options for private instruction (if you really want a challenge and to hone your skills). Did I mention too, the welcoming community and opportunity to practice at many social venues? For anyone who has thought about giving it a go, but hasn’t plucked up the courage... I say ...dive in! You won’t regret it.

I came to Erics Salsa Level 1 beginner class with anxiety and concern regarding my dancing ability. Prior to his class i had no formal dance training, and came in as a neophyte hoping to catch a clue regarding Salsa. I left with confidence, basic competency and most importantly the class was fun! He is a very patient, even-keeled instructor (as well his female instructor), and teaches the fundamentals of hearing the music (tempo) and keeping time with the music with your feet. The class begins with a heavy emphasis on step cadence. In a group setting, his clear instruction is formatted around teaching the steps first without music, calling out the beats or clapping them. Then we practice Salsa steps and basic moves in sync with the measured beat to music first by oneself and then with a partner, mirroring the partners feet. The format really works well by watching his instruction, practicing his instruction w/o music, practicing his instruction with music solo, then with a partner. Constructive feedback happens throughout the process. In the class you learn Mambo basic dance, turns, including the cross body turn. It teaches you the building blocks of Salsa dance, so fundamental and important to progressing to advance beginner Salsa dancing. For the novice who arrived angst-ridden about this fun, athletic, sensual dance style, my experience is you leave with a great foundation and opportunity to build upon and i intend to take his next level class! I noticed there were people of all ages, dancing abilities in the class and observed a lot of smiles and laughter and good times and could see by the last class we were generally moving Salsa style to a syncopated beat. Eric offers instructional video as well to practice what you learn in class!

Ive taken several of the classes at Salsaville with a few of the instructors (Eric, Marcela, and others) and every time not only do I have fun in each and every class, but more importantly I immediately feel my nerves dissipate quickly and Im really at ease during each class. The reason for this is because theyve really nailed the perfect pace to teach even the most slow learning beginners like me! The instructors are really, really good at both dancing salsa and teaching salsa, theyve clearly being teaching for many, many years. Once youre ready for more advanced classes, the pace does pick up so you never feel like youre moving too quickly (for lower levels) nor too slowly (for higher levels). Finally, one last thing, Eric Freeman who heads up the studio is one of the nicest guys and I think one of the most experienced dance instructors on the planet (thats right, not just in Colorado, but the planet). Ive taken many other dance classes like Lindy Hop, West Coast Swing, Bachata, etc. and while my instructors are generally doing a good job, they often seem like they havent been teaching for a while or they do it as a hobby. Thats totally fine, but its such treasure to have someone like Eric available here that is leaps and bounds beyond even those other perfectly fine instructors!

Excellent instruction both in a pedagogic and feel-good sense. Some salsa teachers go very quickly through stuff that students find hard and/or use a lot of time on things that most students find easier. My husband and I were very disappointed with the overall experience. Eric Freeman is all about making a profit and clearly does not enjoy teaching salsa, nor is he a good teacher. We took our first two lessons in June, but we had a planned vacation for the rest of the month. I told Eric ahead of time that we would be out of town and would need to make up the last two lessons in July. He said it wouldnt be a problem and emailed us to confirm that we would be finishing up our lessons in July. We showed up to class in July, but it was a nightmare. He glared at us when we walked in and refused to acknowledge us. When it was time to start practicing the moves, he walked around the room to check on people. We were very clearly struggling with one of the moves, but rather than help us out with our dance steps, Eric demanded to know who we were and look for our names on the list of payed customers. When he couldnt find our names, he freaked out. I told him we were gone on vacation and reminded him that he had emailed us letting us know it was ok. He proceeded to tell me that I needed to show him the email and walked away. He ignored us the rest of the lesson. At the fourth and final lesson, I decided to be prepared because I did not want to feel like that again...like criminals...so I printed the email and took it with me to class. As soon as he arrived, I approached him with the email so we could straighten everything out. As I was trying to initiate a conversation with him, he kept interrupting me, saying, Give me a minute. Give me a minute. It was extremely rude. So I just put the email on the table and said, Heres the email you wanted. Please spend your time talking to us about our dance moves instead of emails today. Do you think he watched us at all or coached us? NOPE! We are not the only ones he did this to. We saw him do the same thing to a few other people that had similar arrangements because they were on a vacation. To top it off, he is a horrible dance teacher. He made us practice the basic 1-2-3 move for the first 30 minutes of every class as a time filler, which is extremely boring and unnecessary after the first lesson. The second half of class would consist of him showing off some fancy moves and telling us to try it. A good dance teacher would teach the new moves, step by step. People got so frustrated and confused that they were making up their own moves! One last thing. The dance studio is about 100 degrees with no air flow and wall-to-wall people, so it feels like you are going to pass out from heat exhaustion at any moment. If all of that sounds like a fun experience to you, sign up with Salsaville for lessons with Eric Freeman!

I’ve avoided taking dance lessons for years because I want to learn the moves quickly and precisely; otherwise, I’ll get frustrated and bored. When I read on the Salsaville website that Eric provides private lessons AND tweaks technique promptly and patiently, I knew his teaching style would appeal to both my intellect and my body. After only five private lessons, I can feel the moves becoming second-nature, and I’m learning to surrender to another’s lead—a critical life lesson, too! Salsa music/dance is a perfect fit for my energy level/pacing, and Eric immediately tuned in to that: I get the sense that he appreciates a learner’s/dancer’s differences in body-and-mind personality and masterfully tailors his instruction. These salsa lessons make me really happy beyond the one-hour lesson, each of which has been perfectly challenging and full.

I recently purchased a set of Salsavilles DVDs - the same I bought almost a decade ago on video and having run out of video players now. Ever since I started dancing salsa in 2000, Erics instructional videos have accompanied me all the way from a beginner who could hardly get his feet on the floor up to the level where I lead ruedas. There are a number of reasons why I love the instructional videos. Firstly, they are easy to use. Each move is first shown the way it is danced, and then slowly with instructions. The latter part allows you to learn a move in detail: steps, movements, hands - everything you need to understand the move. The initial piece of showing the move as it is danced, however, allows you to observe the details that are hard to teach: how exactly do you lead, how are your hands, what is the exact position, the timing, etc. Seeing the way the move is danced is important when you try to learn a move at home, and even more so if you learn it alone. In class, you and your partner learn the move together, try it, repeat it until you master it. In contrast, I used the videos alone, studied and tried to moves, and then went out to try them on the floor with partners who had no clue what was coming. So I had to be sure of how I had to lead my partner. And, to make a long story short: it worked. I was able to learn completely new moves based on the videos. Can you imagine how this feels? Yet, lets be clear here: I never saw the video as a replacement of a salsa class. I still needed them, I couldnt have done without them. But I was able to gradually enhance, improve and deepen the moves with the videos. And buying the same DVDs again after more than 10 years of dancing shows that I still believe that I can learn and improve my dancing.Second, the videos were are great source of inspiration and motivation. Imagine: you just started dancing salsa, arrived at a level 2 or 3 where you start getting comfortable with the music and your feet - and suddenly, when you hang out with your classmates, you take them to the floor and dance moves with them they have never seen before - you are the hero. Well, looking back, I am laughing about it, but honestly, thats the way I felt, thats the way I was motivated to continue. And thats the way I still feel even today sometimes. Again, here, a word of caution. Believing that the number of moves you know is sufficient to be successful on the floor is absolutely wrong. It helps, but never forget that dancing is all about your partner. She is the picture, make her beautiful, respect her. But adding more moves is a nice plus. And here is the third point I like about the videos. I always get a lot of positive feelings from the videos. The way the couples dance together - it is simply beautiful to watch. Especially as a beginner, all you care about are the moves. And, unfortunately, you see a lot of people on the floor who are more move junkies than real dancers. The videos showed me a different world, though: dancing is so much more than moves: it is conversation, it is personality, it is you and me. Now, of course, you may say that you can get this information also from other places. Sure, you can go to Cuba, you can go to shows, you can go to those clubs where the best people dance. But, honestly, especially as a beginner, those are probably not the places everybody goes in the first place. So, the video inspired me, filled me with a vision where I want my dancing to go, and I still feel today that I have a lot to learn. So, to me, Erics videos have been a valuable companion for more than a decade, and I am looking forward to watching my new DVDs for yet another decade. Again: a video is no replacement for a salsa class and it is no replacement for a night out with your friends on the floor. But it helped me to get from simply making steps to dancing with partners.
