Great experience doing an aera intro flight here. The instructors are knowledgeable and easy going and the aircraft are well maintained. This is also one of the only airports you can rent aircraft once signed off by the instructors. Airport is tough to get to if you dont have a POV.

The instructors here are very understanding with students who are hard of learning like me. They do their best to help out, plus, if you learn to land here, you could land basically anywhere. The plane rentals arent too pricey they are just right. This is always a good place if youre a learning pilot like myself, to get your hours up.

I love little Freeway and their instructors. They have a decent fleet of Cessna 152’s, 172’s, and the Arrow. Could they be better equipped? Sure. But you’re using it to train. It doesn’t need all the bells and whistles. The Arrow purrs like a kitten. Also- could it use an interior make-over and an avionics upgrade? Sure. But am I happy with the price and are the planes reliable and well-maintained? Yea.The instructors are passionate and take your training as seriously. I have found each instructor I’ve flown and trained with to be knowledgeable and skilled and will get your through your ratings and certificates at a pace that’s comfortable for you, but I never found them to be a school that will nickel and dime.. or squeeze out additional time on the Hobbs. It’s also been nice seeing the same faces over the past 5 years I’ve flown from there. There isn’t too much turnover in regards to most schools now a days. The airport itself is a fun challenge, given the location right on the edge of the FRZ( restricted flight zone around Washington, DC), and will keep you on your game, given shorter strip will keep. Not to mention that’s its fun to brag about from time to time. It will keep your Pilotage skills strong, as well. All in all, it gets the job done. Check them out if you’re already a pilot and need a plane to rent or if you’re looking to start the journey of flight!

If you learn to land aircraft at Freeway Airport, you can land literally anywhere else. Great instructors, great owners, and a huge family of private aviators and commercial and military pilots that span decades.

Excellent place to learn to fly. Very friendly staff and instructors, fun aviation community, and fun planes to fly or just watch others take off and land. Highly recommended.

Loved my flight there. I was EXTREMELY nervous but the instructor made it seem like it was all good and eventually I relaxed and enjoyed the flight.

We were driving down the highway past this flight school and one of the airplanes went to land and just missed hitting the cars in front of us since the plane was so low. Very scary. I called to let the school know and was told, Well they have to get pretty low to land.Yeah, I get that, but the key is to land in the right place. Worried that this person may one day be flying an aircraft above people.

I fly here frequently, and have lived nearby for over 15years. I really enjoy all of the services Freeway offers and thankful for their training.

I got my husband an intro flight lesson (they have 30 and 60 minute options) for his birthday. Instructor was professional. Staff was friendly. We flew out towards Annapolis and my husband got to experiment with the controls and gain basic understanding of piloting. Very exciting and well worth it!

Fantastic little airport in a perfect place - please keep it open as so many other smaller airports are now closed due to urban sprawl!

If you get one of the bad instructors, dont get discouraged, look for another one. I felt like I was being strung along as time went by. Left and took my business elsewhere.

As a private pilot with instrument rating who has flown in another local airport for several years, I decided to give Freeway a try for my two-year review (private pilots need to go through this review in order to keep currency). I have flown with several instructors before and at different airports across the country. Here is my take:They have very good customer service and are very helpful with scheduling. What I found troubling was the flying part. My CFI (Certified Flight Instructor) - I believe his name or nickname is Marty - instruction was poor at best.He did not have a good teaching methodology. He couldnt explain concepts clearly. He was rude and it seemed that he could not communicate in a good and safe way. He was prepotent and instead of explaining a concept he just replied orders back. I was surprised that he contradicted many of the most basic concepts on the FAR (Federal Aviation Regulations) such as communications and pattern procedures. He didnt have a way of correcting (alas, I dont understand why you. are doing this!) instead of, why dont you try this?.Also, I flew with another CFI before (who already left the school) and I was surprised with their lack of SOPs (standard operating procedures). They didnt have any flows to run checklists. Their checklists were missing pages (oh, yeah, no emergency checklist, tough luck).I was surprised to find out the poor instruction at Freeway. The airport, itself, is known for being one of the most difficult airports to fly at (close to the restricted area and with many obstacles around, plus constant crosswinds). There is no doubt that Marty and the other CFI who flew with me are very skilled and are solid pilots. But if they dont know how to teach and dont have strict procedures (airline pilots are all about procedures and checklists), then safety is at jeopardy. I dont blame the CFI, but their chief instructor and the flight school should have better standards. They should train their CFI better and impose strict SOPs for all instructors. If not the Baltimore FSDO (FAA Flight Standards District Office) should step in.This airport might be ok if you are planning a discovery flight. But if you are serious about flying, I do recommend that you consider other flight schools. Maybe you will find a good instructor in Freeway (CFIs are all very different), but you wont know until you have flown at least with another CFI. Flying is very expensive, and you should give a second thought on how you want to spend your money. A good CFI can make a difference and can save you hundreds of dollars.
