I used to love this place until this year happened a whole bunch of changes are happening , people are starting to not wanna come anymore, they keep moving teachers around and the fact that they don’t care. Things were canceled multiple times and I can’t seem to be happy in this place anymore. It made a lot of sense why a lot of students left the school to go somewhere where they can actually enjoy. Soon enough that might just be me leaving too. 😐

I am two years graduated and never have wrote a review but I would like to say this school helped me grow as a man and a student I would never be where I am without Somerset they have a great staff and great teachers!

My daughter has been in going to Somerset Canyons since 8th grade. This school has gone above and behind for my daughter. The Principal and the assistant Principal are wonderful! They care, all of her teachers and staff that we have had all care so much. I couldn’t be happier.

I hate that my kids are going to this school. If the other option wasnt worst, they wouldnt attend this school. The principal lacks compassion for the students. He is the example of another white man in power. The few times I have spoken with him about my children, he has not shown any sympathy for the situation. All this school cares about is money. They charge money for everything. I wanted my son to play sports, but it was going to cost double the price of a travel league. I still have another child in Elementary and I will do whatever to not send her to this school.

I had the privilege of getting Mr. Zarbalas as a history teacher in the 10th and 12th grade, and I think hes a wonderful and charismatic teacher. He made the class fun and, at the same time, he was able to relate to us students and proved he understood us. He never overwhelmed us with homework or irrelevant assignments that did not pertain to the lecture but provided limited but beneficial material. Overall, he was a joy to have, and Id definitely miss him as a teacher when I eventually go to college.

I can only speak about the facilities. My daughter went for a volleyball tournament but the campus looks great. Two outdoor basketball courts. Two in door courts. Plenty of parking. Clean facilities. A beautiful athletic field.

This school is not a bad school the princebel is very nice and the teacher that I learned most from was from Ms.Telusme there are some bad things like they spend the money we give them on statues except the bathrooms and classrooms.Some of the people there are racist and not kind. But overall it is a decent school with good education. this was not my first choice school but I am glad I came here. kids here do get bullied and the teachers do nothing about. But it is not the best but not the worst if your looking for a good education for you kid this is a school for you.

This school is good I also want to say that the principal did not use the jeans day money for the statue that money was donated from the class of 2019 and they especially said it was for the statue.

This school is horrible. Terrible staff and teachers who are not even certified in teaching. School waist money on useless statues and designs instead of fixing classrooms and bathrooms. Even added cameras so they can spy on us in class. The racist principle kicks us off campus after school when we have siblings in after school clubs that we have to wait for. Do not bring your child to this school. Teachers dump us with work as if we dont have any other classes. My old science teacher never taught us anything and gave us useless studyguides. If we complain about something the staff wont do s*** about it. Some students say whatever they want cause if any student does one thing to them its a suspension or a detention. The school is also so unorganized they even lost my transcript when i was going to 6 grade and also i had teachers lose my final exams. This school just sucks.

The reason for 2 stars is the communication. The front desk person is very hard to understand and she is very short. Also, there is absolutely no communication from the high school teachers.My son went through the whole process to get on the freshman basketball team. His spirits were high and confident, then on the day they posted who made the team he was told they decided not to have a freshman team. This was very disappointing and disheartening.The school itself is a great school and they appear to support the students.

Please fix the school bathrooms, they are absolutely disgusting and are in abominable condition. There is a lack of stall doors, dividers between urinals, poor pumbling, and running water. The school also locks all the other bathrooms but one for males and females in each building, forcing everyone to one bathroom. There is also a security guard who sits in front of only the boys bathroom with a sign-in sheet. After school, all of bathrooms are locked except for a single one for males and females in the middle school building. This is a huge inconvenience because there are clubs, sports, college classes, and other activities done at the high school building.

Poorly run school. Push students to be accountable for their actions, but not the teachers. Do not know how to handle issues. Prefer to intimidate versus seek the truth in a more civilized way. Spend money on the wrong things - a statue for the front of the building instead of putting bathroom doors on stalls where they are missing and making other repairs to the school. Really?

Great school for good kids. It is obvious if you do not act out and follow the rules accordingly, that you won’t think administrators suck or security is rude for just doing their job. Perhaps you need to learn how to talk to people rather than challenging authority. If you’re being bullied and went to administration, you would find they are very helpful if you are on top of it as well. And no, there are not fights every day. The education is much more rigorous and that is why most people say it sucks because they are not willing to do the work. And do not expect your teacher to take makeup work just because you waited till the last minute of the grading period. YOU EARN YOUR GRADE. I strongly recommend this school if you’re looking for a small community and a good education.

When it comes to somerset, I’m mostly neutral about it. I don’t like it, but I don’t hate it either. It isn’t the best school in the world, and coming from someone who has been to this school from sixth grade to tenth grade, there are some improvement’s that could be made.To start, The school’s current principal Mr.G isn’t bad, I can tell he cares about the students, even if it is a little. Although he has only stayed at somerset for two school years, not much is seen or heard from him. I’m not going to go into full detail, but I mentioned that he cared about the students because he helped me out when I left my lunch box at a middle school teacher’s classroom when I went for a club interest meeting. I know all he did was ask me if everything was okay when I went to the office before he let me look in the back to see if I could find my lunch box. Even if it was a small move, it meant a lot. Even if he is a bit nice, the school rules are strict, but better than they were when I was in 6th grade.Secondly, instead of fixing things like making more space for the middle school cafeteria, or even fixing the middle school bathroom, the only recent thing they have done is buy a statue that is displayed at the front of the school. The school only uses their money to fix the outside of the school, but not the inside. The middle school bathroom has been a problem for a long time, and for the seven years somerset has been running nothing has been done to fix it. The middle school cafeteria is a big issue as well. The middle school building is older than the high school building, but something still needs to be done about it for the incoming middle schoolers.Additionally, the teachers care more about if you are on your phone or if you are wearing a hood than if you are being bullied by someone. To give an example, I was being bullied harshly by these two students in my language arts class last year, and my teacher didn’t do too much about it. I told my teacher about it twice, but he just ignored me and all he did was tell them to stop once. For the bullying to stop, my mom had to email Mr.G and administration about it. That was when my teacher cared enough to change my seat along with giving the two boys that were bullying me detention.To give more insight into the teachers at somerset, there are a few rotten ones (Mr.Milsap, Mrs.Dearman) but the teachers like Ms.Schooley, Ms.Castine, Ms.Cadet, and Mrs.Horsley, were my favorite ones. Ms.Schooley had a good learning environment in her class, she TAUGHT the material along with helping students understand it, she was available every day after school if you needed help, made sure you had an A in her class and was strict but fair. Ms.Cadet was nice, enjoyable, and made sure not to give too much homework, Ms.Castine cared a lot about her students and made classwork amusing, Mrs.Horsley was educated, interesting, and one of the best classes to be put in. When you get into 10th grade you get a lot of homework from the teachers and get projects and tests really early into the school year which sucks, but there isnt much that can be done about it. My math teacher especially gives homework every class, which ends up being a lengthy packet. Im in a regular class too! Also, when you get into 9th grade the science teachers have a thing with giving quizzes every class. My 10th grade science teacher only gives quizzes every class because administration is telling him to. Which isnt fair at all.Most of the students at somerset arent the best either, and its hard to make friends if you are introverted since students mostly already have their groups from day one, and arent really looking to put new people in their group. Luckily though, I have met a few decent people here. If you want to have a good school year at somerset, avoid talking to the rude students, and avoid getting involved in stupid stuff.

This is a very good school. The Track team is great.

Hands down the worst school you can ever enroll somebody into. The administration is terrible they don’t care about students well-being they just care about phones and hoodies and discipline nothing else... The teachers are even worse including a teacher named Mrs. Reif who doesn’t teach her classes, walks out at random times, and starts arguments with the students. My son has told me that him and his fellow classmates haven’t learned a single thing in her English class. More importantly the administration lets her get away with anything. Apparently the teachers don’t suffer consequences for poor actions at this school. When teachers perform poorly administration seems to turn their heads the other way and act as if nothing is wrong. Cameras have been installed to every classroom for “safety precautions” which is completely unnecessary due to the fact that my son feels like he’s being watched the entire day at school and feels uncomfortable. Putting my child in this school is the biggest mistake I have ever made. I do not recommend this school for anyone.

Easily one of the worst school experiences ever so let me get started on what happened the p.e coach Coach Firestein called me up and a conversation with me about how I was name calling and verbally abusing these two girls I had never seen or know when I asked who are the girls he said it doesn’t matter and also said “ he knew those girls personally and they wouldn’t make up a lie” the most unprofessional teacher I have ever met. After that he went on to tell me he would get me personally suspend if I ever name called some one again. Some advice if you are going to come up with such accusations at least have evidence to back it up

I personally like the school, its a small school, so its not like you are having to wait on issues when asking or consulting with an administrator. The small atmosphere allows students to feel involved and have a closer relationship with teachers and staff. I gave it four stars because of some of the teachers. Yes, some know less then their students on many occasions, but on the flip side, help is limited for them. Some teachers will refuse to help another. All schools have their problems, but this one, as much as I enjoy going has been slowly going in the wrong direction. I give it four stars because of how I feel like its a second home. They do give a lot of homework, but thats what helps you succeed, practice makes perfect and as much as kids hate homework, it does impact everyones education.

I give this school 1 star because it s terrible. They put a stupid fence arouns the field just so students dont walk on it, that doesnt make sense because all pe students use it so there is no reason to block the field like that. The Indian receptionists is not a good comunicater. It s very hard to understand her, and she gives you sass. Now the principle used all the jeans say money to buy a stupid bronze statue, and put it right in front of the School. They are making it $1 to name the statue, probably because they owe the place they bought the statue from because they have no money. Instead of using the jeans say money to buy a stupid statue they could have used the money to fix the middle school bathrooms, serve better lunches, and clean the classes and lunchroom.

This school is absolutely ridiculous. If you want to enroll your kids at a school that is more so like a prison then go ahead and do so. This school cares more about you being on your phone at lunch then they do your education itself and it’s ridiculous. They have security guards aka a guy named Sam who ejoys getting kids in trouble for it. In fact, I saw him make a girl hysterically cry the other day because he was treating her terribly. Our principal Mr. G, in a senior meeting on Valentine’s Day after talking to us about how we were goning to raise money for Douglas then tried to implement how all of us students should leave a 5 star review on something good about the school on here. When in reality this school is absolutely terrible. No parent is ever contacted about the students behavior or academics just to come pick up their students phone at the end of the day. I haven’t even begun with the Aice Language teacher Mrs. Reif, the most rude despicable human being I may have ever met. She doesn’t care if you miss school for fun or if something terrible happens to your family she shows no remorse. So if you want to go to a school that cares more about your hoodies and cell phones then they do about you learning the curriculum, then please send your kid to Somerset Academy Canyons.

Most teachers teach really well like Mrs.Horsley , the journalism and newspaper teacher also the food is good and we just got a new gym.I love the school.

The students that are considered popular are just really crude to the other students and thinks its finer because they might look cute or have money because of this school I was so close of dropping out of school, but because I have SUCH great friends Im staying for another year of this place called school

Both of my children attend Somerset and im seriously thinking of transferring them to a different school. Horrible customer service. Front Office during the summer break is not returning calls or answering phone. Such a nightmare.

This school discriminates on autistic people, this school only cares about the FSA, and I used to respect this school but my mother and I are following up with the district, and this is coming from a student since 6th grade. And if they were intelligent they would not change anything because I have had many high level Fsa Tests with either high or perfect grades. I have been on the honor roll most quarters and this is the only time I struggled due to some circumstances out of my control yet I still finished the quarter with a lowest grade of C and close to a 3.0 GPA.

Giving this school one star is giving it to much. Certain teachers are so unprofessional and have absolutely no business working there. I have seen this school change principals three times since my child started there in the 7th grade. My child is going to finishing this year. We thought this was an answer and it has turned out to be the worst. I am glad my child will be done with this school. And no one administration or otherwise knows how to follow through with important matters.With these people is all about status and money. Look into other schools for your child where they will actually excel. I know of quite a few kids who left this school and enrolled in a publc school and their GPAs went through the roof.Good luck

A little bit of a hassle when you are switching classes I know of many people that have fallen and gotten injured I hate the fact that they do not have a nurse I’ve broke several items here we’re switching classes is absurd to not have a nurse does locker rooms are too small and I I think something needs to be done when you are leaving the highschoolers and the middle schoolers mix and it is not a good transition I do not agree with the fact that highschoolers are with middle schoolers and you have to pay for a parking spot, pay I tell you!!! They want money from everything! The uniforms to paying for parking spots just supports my idea even more!! There are lab fees, medical fees, some “clubs” even cost money!!! I’m sick of it! There are some horrible teachers teaching at this school who are keeping it from being a good one. From my experience in this school there has been some terrible teachers. Mrs.Dearman and Mrs.Silverstein are some of the many . Mrs Dearman is extremely strict and chooses favoritism for grades rather than teaching. Mrs.silverstein just is sour and only hears herself and is actually BULLYING kids and again is one with favoritism

Everythint they do includes the students having to pay alot money for sport, etc. Not a good school for high schoolers. I went to this school for a number years, here is my comprehensive review:All the reviews for this school are completely outdated so ignore those, but the teachers are fine and of course some are better than others. One thing to note is that there are some teachers detrimental to learning and quite frankly, administration doesn’t care. Heads of staff are often disrespectful and immature. Although it is uncommon to actually need administration, when you do interact with them it is very unpleasant. There are definitely good heads in the school, I personally really like the assistant principal at somerset. Even then, the immature, horrible administration just will ruin your transcript with referrals and Saturday detention that you do not deserve. I am close friends with a large sum of students who have gotten Saturday detentions on their transcripts for doing absolutely nothing wrong. The school is run like a corrupt government. There are definitely phenomenal teachers at the school and they really care about your learning but once again the administration will ruin all of that for you. A big pro for this school is the AICE program, and it is really helpful and straight forward to get your aice diploma which will help you save a lot of money. Overall, don’t go to this school, it isn’t worth the administration screwing you, but if you are smart enough for the aice program and somehow ended up having this school as your final option, go for it. I was in the AICE Program and had a phenomenal learning experience, but I did have awful encounters with the distraughtful and exasperatious administration.Sincerely, A fellow student.

I have been attending this school for 3 years now and I personally feel that even boynton high is better than this school. The teachers are very not helpful and not attentive to youre needs. You would think they would as its a smaller school. I can honestly say I have not learned one things over the course of 3 years being here. The school has failed me as an education but my grades have been fine. For example I have had 3 different geometry teachers this year, 2 chemistry teachers and 2 English teachers. DO NOT SEND YOURE KID TO THIS SCHOOL.

The office staff is very unhappy more concerned about silly rules than what really goes on with the students! Other than that a good school!

Im a student in the school, 2016. And appearently I failed this class. This wasnt my fault because Mr.Hurst changed my grade to a C into a D right when report cards came out in the third quarter. I turned in every paper I could before the 9 weeks but still gave me a D. I wouldve passed his class because in his syllabus said Prepworks were only 5% one the grading material and appearently thats what brought my grade down when I did them, he still gave me a 0 on edline. If you could please not put me in summer school because I actually would have a C if he didnt change my grade, I would be grateful.-Alyssa D.I hope you read this so you know.
