Absolutely love the school, great communication from teachers, and staff. The program we are using is perfect for our family. They do great interactive activities even with the pandemic, and have helpful materials. Definitely a great alternative school!

They offer no consequences for absences and lack of participation. Even if a kid can’t pass any classes since they started and shows up less then half the time they let them stay enrolled with no consequences. They’re encouraging my step son to purposely fail classes to stay enrolled a year longer to enroll in a college program he doesn’t qualify for now based on GPA and definitely wouldn’t qualify for next year. He has enough credits to graduate in June, but counselor encouraging him to drop classes and graduate next year. How is that helping him?. He doesn’t qualify for the program she’s encouraging!?! This school needs some serious help! I recommend Discovery in Port Orchard! At least they offer kids consequences and encourage them to graduate on time! Barker Creek fails the students and the parents!!

I was a student at this school from 2nd semester of 10th grade to graduation. While I wasnt fleeing public school because I was in serious need of help, the way things are there are much better than most public school set ups. Theres lots of flexibility! The way the building is actually set up is also pretty cool and feels breathable. Almost all the classes are separated by large rollable whiteboards. The small amounts of students makes the environment a lot less chaotic. The majority of the staff actually cares about their students and have time to be more one-on-one. I bonded with a lot of the staff there during my time. I was able to ask questions without being confined to a tiny room, forced to sit at my desk until given permission. I really liked the laid back vibe of the place. Also the bean bags are a huge plus. The school will give you plenty of heads up about your progress and what you need to be working on and give you lots of options on how to reach your goals, but arent too pushy. The little extra things put in by the school to help the less fortunate was also great! This included packing backpacks, setting up a spot for free to take clothes in the building for anyone, free lunches, and you can even ask for a snack at the front desk if you really need it.However, there are some things that give this place 4 stars and not 5. The school being small has pros AND cons. There arent very many choices in classes in contrast with public schools. While the art class was fun, I was hoping for something less craft-based. There was also only one counselor when I attended. Some things were out of the schools control, like what kind of kids attend the school, but these werent too much of a problem in my case.Lots of good memories at this school. I graduated early too! Thanks guys ❤From your weird art kid that changes hair color every 2 weeks,Elliot/Elysse Slaughter
