We moved to Camas because we kept hearing how the schools are top notch. So far this district has been nothing but a huge disappointment. Children and their academic excellence is not what this district focuses on. The board members have no regards for what the parents or students have to say. Some of the staff are incredibly rude, however some other ones are still staying calm and courteous which I appreciate. This needs to change and when it does, my review of this district will change as well.

I went to camas school district for all 13 years (k-12) of my public education and it was largely a positive experience. I always had adequate resources and plenty of opportunities. I am, however, concerned with the direction the district is heading in. In the last 2-3 years I have been met with a sharp increase in unpleasant interactions with staff (not teachers- they have all been wonderful) that have made doing anything on the management side of school a chore. I also am concerned with their budgetary priorities and the things they are emphasizing. They seem to be very focused on their image, which isn’t inherently an issue, but it tends to mean that the average student is no longer their focus, as they focus so heavily on project based learning (PBL) schools, sports, and some programs strongly over others (RIP integrated arts and academics program). Equally, CHS is starting to become crowded and I fear that they have waited way too long begin to either expand CHS or build a new mainstream high school. The issue isn’t too bad now, but I fear in 4-5 years class size and overcrowding will become a huge problem for CHS. I still hold a relatively positive view of the district, but when compared to other districts in the area the price premium that living in camas commands does not seem worth it to me for the school district.

Great schools. I’ve have kids at both Helen Baller and Woodburn Elementary for several years. We have been pleased with the care and attention they have given at both schools. These schools have taken the time to build support systems that help children be successful. Can’t say enough about the Camas teachers and principals (Brian Graham and Aaron Parman) are both amazing!!We also have been really happy with the whole team that is part of Camas Community Ed programs for childcare prior to K.

Horable school district! Not enough child care, and thay expect you to jump though foolish hoops just so your kid can go to school there. Im going to sell my house now just so my kids can be in a sane school district.

The Camas School District is the number one best school district in this area. I went to the evergreen public schools the first twelve years of my life. I went to Shahala middle school when I was in sixth grade. About a third of the students at Shahala were very mean to me. There were a lot of athletic show offs. With the exception of the vice principal that walked really funny no one there took care of the bullying. And the evergreen school district was very un-rigorous. Then our family moved to Camas the summer between sixth grade and seventh grade. My parents did this on purpose because it was ranked the number one best school district in this area. The staff were way nicer. Unlike Shahala I never got picked on. I am someone that loves being challenged academically. When I go to an English class I want to learn things like how to structure an essay and expand vocab. When I go to science class I want to learn something like Ohms law not something everyone should know like hot air is less dense than cold air. I do not want a lot of assignments that you do not have to put any thought in. At Liberty this happened. In addition, Camas high school is a way better high school too. Every year about 40 students get accepted into UW, UCBerkley or an Ivy-league caliber school. Most schools only have this in a blue moon. And the Superintendent office and Steve Marshal really like feedback and really listen to it. I have been a student at CHS for four years and I have only had or seen two teachers that I thought were bad and both of them have gotten fired. If you are someone that lives in Vancouver or Washougal and you have a child that is getting picked on or you want your child to go to a better school I highly recommend moving to Camas.
