My daughter went to Aucocisco for 5 weeks this past summer for help in reading. The first amazing thing was how much she loved it! She went for 5 weeks, 20 hours per week, 4 hours per day, one on one intensive tutoring. Not one complaint!! Her self esteem shot up because of the improvements she was making. One full grade level in 5 weeks! Thats a drastic change in a short time period. The key thing was that Aucocisco introduced a different method of teaching that is outside of the standard public school box. The Aucocisco School and Learning Center has been a transformational experience, not just for my son, but for our whole family. My son started going to Aucocisco in the 6th grade. At that time, he was reading at a first grade level, his math skills were stuck in the third grade and he was nearly phobic about school.The first year he was at Aucocisco, our focus was on allowing him to love school again, which much to my surprise happened! That first summer he said, I wish school lasted all year. The second year he was at the Aucocisco School, in the 7th grade, the learning happened so fast, every day he was acquiring new skills. His confidence grew, he made good friends, he started to participate more in every area. Even in classes he had traditionally not enjoyed, he started to thrive. We saw his curiosity, confidence and thirst for knowledge come back, something that had disappeared completely by the end of 5th grade in his old school.Now, in the 11th grade at Aucocisco, my son reads at grade level, his math skills are at grade level, he loves reading and hes completely engaged in all of his classes. When we started, Aucocisco met him where he was and that made all the difference. Instead of pushing against a locked door, they found the key to my son and once the door was open, everything changed.The community at the Aucocisco School is very supportive, from the teachers and Barbara Melnick to the other parents weve met. Its a great group of kids there too. My son has made good friends, who even when they move on from Aucocisco have continued to stay close to our family. Very grateful for everyone at this wonderful school and the amazing work they do.
