This is in response to the review by got Millsie since he asked other parents to comment with their thoughts:Great! Glad they are keeping my kids (and your child) safe! No one should be on the field before school. I’m not sure why you feel you are above the rules that the rest of us follow. There are many public parks in The Meadows that you can take your son to in the morning in order to practice. I have a hunch that your desire to practice at the school while we all sit in carpool and watch you, has more to do with some narcissistic qualities you possess than a desire to be a good dad.

ACS FamilyI am a parent of a 6th grade student who plays soccer for ACS as well as competitive club ball and I am seeking your comments and support and or opinions on an issue here at the school…Last year for the entire school year just about minus snow days my son and I would wake up early just so we could get to ACS early so he could have a little bit of practice time on the soccer field with me before school. It was a great time to spend with my son and everything went perfectly no problems nothing. Now yesterday for the year first day of school my son and I are out on the field practicing soccer drills and apparently Jenny Featherston and Erin McMilon Decided to send me an email I will post it below:“Welcome back Mr. Mills! We are so happy to see you again here at ACS!I wanted to remind you that the ACS Soccer field and playground are closed before school begins. This ensures the safety and protection of our students, faculty, and families. If you have any questions, please let me know.Sincerely,Jenny Featherston”Apparently they feel that Its NOT safe to the faculty students and parents of ACS for my son and I to be outside on the field kicking the soccer ball in the morning and have told me that I am not allowed to be out there with my son moving forward. Please comment below and let me know your thoughts and maybe your support would be helpful in getting this “rule” corrected for the Benefit of our children.Anyone who reads this and agrees with me please post reviews and comments accordinglyTHANK YOU

I was here from kindergarten to 6th grade, In my 6 grade year I have been suspended around 5 times, Now overall I would say this is fine yet I was suspended for dumb reasons such as, Falling out of my chair, Throwing a pencil, etc. This school is horrible do not put your children through this torture.

Very happy with our child’s experience over the past 7 years. He’s well prepared academically for high school and has had many wonderful and caring teachers every year. The small class sizes are perfect for all learning types. Positive environment and great families too!

This is a grate school I have trouble with reading and math. How ever the School instantly helped me with all of this by creating a way I understood the math and reading. All the teachers are amazing and understand what they are doing.I also feel really safe at this school due to how well protected it is.

My two children are part of the homeschool enrichment program that is affiliated with Academy Charter. There is a blatant disregard by administration to support the academic and intellectual development of the child and the families that continue to seek a valuable contribution from the learning community in Douglas County. The search for data is killing the spirit of the advanced learner. Here is a hint: Holistically evaluate a child to identify their strengths and areas for improvement. Stop relying on standardized tests which seek to place children in a percentile and stop looking at data. Notice the child, evaluate their strengths, and offer the child opportunities for growth based on their abilities and willingness to stretch beyond what is “standard”.

Two of our children have gone and graduated through this school. The majority of the staff are amazing educators and truly care about the kids. No school is perfect and all have their challenges but our children are so much more prepared for their higher education than traditional public schools.

I went here for middle school and I honestly have no soul anymore. I hear its called an academically rigorous school, but dont be fooled, it is WAY more than rigorous. Theres a painfully intense amount of schoolwork, the dress code adds to the pain of coming here, the food is terrible, and if you value your health, your sanity, and pretty much anything else about yourself, DO NOT ENROLL HERE. It is, by far, the most terrible school environment. Adding to this, I have ADHD and it took this school almost all of the three years I was here to develop a plan to help me with the overload of homework, and then the plan just made everything worse. There are only a few teachers here who are pretty great. Otherwise, this place is hell and death itself, slowly pulling you into a trap you can never get out of. Your soul will slowly disappear and you will cease to exist. Well, at least thats how I feel about this place.

Because of my 7 years at this school, I have become very self contious about what people think of me. Dont bring your kids to this school for the death of them. I hate this school with a burning desire to set it on fire. The olny thing I have learned from this dumpster of a school is how to rhymeLearning here is more of teachers shoving fake facts down our throats until we choke and have to regergatate it.Dont be fooled when you sign your kid up for kindergarten. Kindergarten is a sweet spot. But when it comes to First grade and up school for your child will become a living hell.

Went here for 6th grade and had by far the worst school experience. My teachers constantly were singling me out and kicking me out of class for the silliest dress code violations/makeup (which ended up being a false alarm most of the time.) I was new to castlerock and was very lonely, lost on the material, and I didnt think it helped that the teachers were constantly picking on me and making me feel like a bad kid. Being attacked like this made me not want to ask my teachers for help and my grades began to drop. My grades improved once I switched to a different school as well as my mental health.

I am in 8th grade and I already feel extremely prepared for High School. I have attended ACS since I was just a youngling in Kindergarten and I have always felt that greater opportunities lie here at ACS instead of other public schools.

Our child was selected through the lottery, but, after visiting the school we learned this school is not the nurturing environment we expect from a school (especially a charter school in Douglas County). First, a tour of the school was set up for us with an office staff person who knew nothing about what the school had to offer. She showed me the classrooms, and could not answer any of my questions. I had to wait for the principal/director to call; however the voicemail I received from the principal was atrocious and her tone disgraceful. Our child is on an IEP in Douglas County, and the message was crude, that they were ill equipped to accept his IEP and that no charter school in Douglas County would accept his IEP. She could have left a general voicemail inviting a return call where she could have provided a nurturing explanation, but her voicemail said all it needed to about how I would expect my child, or anyone elses child, to be treated by their staff.
