Just attended a Women’s Self Defense seminar this eventing - seminar was offered free of charge (2 1/2 hours of training).First: incredibly generous of the owner (Sensei) to offer this seminar on an annual basis - FREE of charge!Second: this seminar was incredibly informative/enlightening - I left feeling the time I spent was a very good use of my time (wasn’t sure if that would be the case).Third: Was clear to me that Sensei & the other trainer are very passionate about/dedicated to teaching life-saving techniques (never felt they were just going through the motions/being gimmicky)Fourth: Since this seminar was offered free of charge, I assumed that at the end of the seminar there would be a ‘hard sell’ moment - to sign up for their karate classes. While Sensei did mention the opportunity to register for classes, it was very laid back … didn’t feel pressured at all.All in all, great experience - highly recommend that you check out this place!

This has been a god-send for my daughter & I. We have been coming for a little over a month and I must say I am highly satisfied. The instructors are amazing especially with the children! They not only teach self defense but they teach life lessons as well, discipline being the biggest lesson. I have seen a drastic turn around with my daughter due to her coming here. For myself, I’m learning a great deal and the instructors are extremely patient. I highly recommend Japan Karate Institute for you and your little ones! I promise you won’t be disappointed!

My kids have been doing karate at this dojo for nearly two years, and we have had a great experience. Sensei Mixon is a wonderful instructor, and is especially patient with the littlest ninjas. I would recommend this program to any parents thinking of starting your children in karate.

I, along with six of my siblings ranging in ages 5-14, have been training at JKI for about a year now and I can easily say it has been a fantastic experience for all of us. When I first began my training, I had set a goal to become stronger and more confident in myself, and within a year, that and more has been achieved. Sensei Theraun is incredibly gifted in training all of us, and I am excited to continue learning more and more.

My wife and I and our kids train at JKI James Island. We love the classes and really enjoy the atmosphere. It is fun training but also a very good workout, and our karate skills continue to improve. Sensei Theraun and Senpai Carlin are great teachers and role models for our kids.
