I have been playing guitar since I was 14 (23 years now) and finally got “brave” enough to start trying to sing in my 20’s. Our family always had decent singers and my sis is probably the best example of our family’s singing talent. Listening to great male vocals, both in music and theater, always made me want to try and sing like them. The soaring high ranges of 80’s rock gods and the wonderful emotive tones and vibrato from theater acts have always intrigued me.However, I really had resigned myself to believing that I was a pretty limited baritone at best, with some ability to “fake” high notes while sounding like a breathy little girl. In my first lesson with Ms. Schroeder I found out that much of my problem came from bad technique and that my range could be opened up greatly! At one point during the lesson I was able to full voice a high B flat!! This would never have happened using the singing style I had.I have some knowledge of the mechanics of singing, but never had someone break it down to the “molecular” level like she did and make me understand what I can do to improve. And it wasn’t just words, I actually felt and heard results that were clear indicators of what correct singing can sound like! I still have a good bit of work to do in order to find my “best” voice, but I have been given an excellent foundation with the instruction from Schroeder Studio and will certainly be following up with more lessons.
