I came from another dance studio now offering classes here and I’m glad to have this convenient location for in-person classes! I usually find free street parking within a block, which is great. The acoustics inside studios could be better: it’s hard to be on the beat when you can’t hear the music. I’d love a side mirror in studio 3. Also, the cross-talk in the common area gets REALLY loud. Nobody should have to ask for quiet while classes are still going on. Let’s have some courtesy (and Dovetail: let’s cultivate this sense of community).

I stepped into Mollys class having not had any ballet experience, not even classes as a child, only a desire to learn something Id always wanted to learn. Mollys instruction, her patient and encouraging guidance and energy makes me feel like I can actually do it, not like a prima ballerina, but like me. Each class supports the next. I am thrilled with what I am learning and the new feeling in my body.

Ive been member of the flamenco dance community for 40+ years, working with many of our local dance spaces and directors. Our long time flamenco studio closed causing me to search for dance space that accepts flamenco dancers. Ive rented space at Dovetail Studios since 2017 and have enjoyed working with Joanna and Rachel. They believe strongly in the performing arts and do everything possible to promote dance and physical well-being. They engage an excellent teaching staff, offering all levels in various dance forms as well as other classes in keeping fit. They have dutifully kept up with CoVid requirements to ensure a healthy environment for all. No matter your age or level, theres something for everyone here!

Dovetail offers an inclusive, accessible and affordable experience for dancers of all ages and skill levels. Ive loved taking advantage of their work study, dropping into various classes, and renting space for my own rehearsals. Dovetail makes an effort to engage with Chicagos dance scene in a way many studios dont and Ive greatly appreciated the space, shows and support Dovetail has provided for me.

Took a wonderful adult hip hop class here. Its a very nice space and the teacher was great. I was probably the worst dancer in the class, but still had a lot of fun and am glad I went.

IN THIS POST-COVID TIMES, COLLABORATION IS IMPORTANT. DOVETAIL STUDIOS MADE ME AND MY PEOPLE FEEL WELCOMED. THE PLACE IS SPOTLESS AND THE BATHROOMS ARE VERY COMFY.THE FLOOR ITSELF IS A DANCER’S DELIGHT. ITS THE TYPE OF SPACE THAT MAKES YOU WANT TO PROMOTE MORE EVENTS.

My daughter is loving the youth acting class! She looks forward to attending every week, and I love to see her so happy afterward!

Our 4 year-old had a great introduction to dance here. They managed to keep her interest and teach her a thing or two.

Clean studios, incredible instructors. I feel safe taking class as Dovetail adheres appropriately to cleaning and distancing guidelines. Studios are large enough to accommodate plenty of space to move. There are lots classes to choose from (and virtual options too) with so many wonderful teachers for kids up to professionals - dont miss out!

My daughters have been dancing at Dovetail for a few years. The teachers are great and they’ve really enjoyed the ballet and hip hop classes offered. I’m so impressed with the studio’s adaptability during the pandemic. My girls are currently participating in a dance pod. The pod has provided a great opportunity for them to keep dancing with their friends in a safe and fun class.

Im a dancer who was shut out of their studio during the pandemic. I need affordable studio space to complete a project. The staff at Dovetail were amazing. The studios are a great size for varying class sizes. Its equipped with flooring that accommodates percussive dance, I am a Flamenco dancer so this was important. The owner is friendly and easy to work with.

My daughter has been taking classes here for over three years, and she loves it. I love that they offer more than dance, like exercise classes, and that they are expanding their arts programming to include things like acting workshops. The staff is great as well. We recommend Dovetail without hesitation!

My daughter enjoyed taking hip hop with Miss Sasha. In mid session the studio was able to switch to an online forum due to the pandemic which enabled my daughter to keep dancing. They even held a virtual recital.My daughter also attended summer camps here. Given the Covid restrictions the studio and staff handled everything very well. She had a great time especially with theater camp. It was one of her highlights this summer.

Dovetail is such a special place for my daughter to take ballet and tap. The studio management is very professional and communicate often. The teachers are fantastic!! I’m so pleased to have found this place.

This is a beautiful space with 3 studios. There are no poles in the way, and the largest studio can be used as a performance space. The lobby is also spacious and comfortable, and could be used as a reception space pre/post performance. The owner, Joanna, is so nice!

My friend recommended this studio and Im glad I followed her recommendation. I currently take the adult basic ballet class because I have some knowledge of the terminology/proper form from my high school days. If you are a complete beginner, I would suggest taking the beginner ballet class instead. Emily Stein teaches the adult ballet classes and is a fantastic teacher. She is not only extremely knowledgable, but is great at explaining the proper forms for each move. She uses a combination of imagery and mnemonic devices to help you learn. She makes sure to focus on all parts of the body, including arms, head, legs, feet, toes, back, and neck to make sure you are learning the moves properly. I thought I knew a great deal about basic ballet moves, but I was wrong! I currently drive 40 minutes from the suburbs just to take this class because its THAT worth it. Despite being in the city, the studio has plenty of free street parking. As a bonus - the classes are extremely affordable compared to most other dance studios. As a side note - I was told that they have a great work study program, although you will have to call the studio to inquire about this.

Dovetail is a welcoming studio with fantastic teachers who will get you excited about strengthening your technique. The MT dance classes in particular are crazy fun. Or dont miss out on Michels low-fly class!

We love Dovetail studio! There are a lot of options for all ages, and the staff and owner are super accommodating. They respond quickly to emails and are wonderful to work with. Also, the end of the year performance is so well run- and for parents it is much easier than most ballet studios. So happy to have Dovetail in the neighborhood.

Edson is a fantastic dance instructor. Ive been learning from him for over a year & I always have a bevy of fun in learning how to dance Salsa, Rumba, Mambo, y Casino De Rueda.

I took Adult Ballet I at Dovetail from Fall 2018-Spring 2019 and had a great experience. The instructors are very knowledgeable and encouraging and my class size was small enough to get a lot of personal instruction. The hour long classes always felt too short. I moved away from Albany Park, otherwise Id still be going!

I have been taking virtual classes during the pandemic and have enjoyed them immensely, plus they are affordable! Pre-pandemic I attended multiple performances and workshops at Dovetail and have always had a good experience.

Every teacher Ive had here as been really knowledgeable and professional and made class fun. This studio offers a wide variety of classes, and I love all their options.

Love having Dovetail in the neighborhood! I hadnt participated in organized fitness classes in years, but quickly became addicted after trying a 10 class pass. Variety of classes is great, instructors are fantastic, and owners are friendly and accommodating. They also have great party space. My daughter had a hip hop birthday party there. It was super easy and kids had a blast. Definitely try this place!

My kids (boy and girl) have both been going here for a while now. They have learned focus, balance, and listening and LOVE the classes. The staff is lovely and works so hard- obviously they truly enjoy their work. I can’t say enough good things about Dovetail.

I love Dovetail! Joannas Modern Intermediate class is excellent, especially for someone like me who loves dance but does not have that much training. She makes me feel welcome, supported and encouraged. My posture is better overall and my dance technique has greatly improved.. Most importantly for me, getting to class at Dovetail is one of the highlights of my week as it is so fun and makes my body feel good. Buti Yoga was a lot of fun as well! It is super easy to walk in and try a class or register for a series.

Dovetail studio has been a gift to the Northwest side of the city. When I moved here 3 years ago I was struggling to try to find a place to dance as most of the dance studios were a 30+ min drive for me. As a seasoned dancer I wanted a studio where I could feel welcome as an older dancer at my own pace but still feel challenged. After many years of not dancing it is such a joy to find a place I can feel cared for, get my strength and stamina back as a dancer and have fun in a non-competitive and nurturing environment.

Took an adult tap class here and loved it! This was my first dance class in 12 yrs. I was an intermediate to advanced tapper back then but after 12 yrs of not dancing at all I started in their Tap 1 class and it was still challenging. Great environment, staff and teacher--would definitely go back for more classes!!

Joanna and Kent are wonderful studio owners. Their instructors are top notch. Kate, Eddie, Edge and Will are fantastic. Weve taken adult and kid classes here. And even hosted a hip hop birthday party. You wont find a more personal, welcoming fitness/dance studio on the Northside. When you come here, you feel like family.

So grateful to have found this studio, and not just because it is close to our home. My 6 year old is in her 2nd full year of ballet here and I love how the classes evolve as they age. And if I may, Rachel (the class teacher) is the best! The other weekend I was in a complete bind and needed a space to finish choreographing a piece. The studio was closing within two hours and when I got there the door was locked. I called the number on the door and a woman named Joanna was unbelievably helpful. She both helped me reserve the space for two hours and get into the building. She went above and beyond to accommodate me. So... recommended!!!

Dovetail is a fantastic studio! My 7 year old gets so excited when its a ballet day! Ms. Rachel is amazing with the young kids; she has so much energy and really puts 100% in to each class. My daughter is learning a lot and having fun! I love the discipline that ballet (and dance classes) teach to young ones.

We began classes for my daughter in early 2020 and obviously it is now on Zoom. The teacher is doing an amazing job engaging the students on Zoom. She is very energetic and funny. My daughter looks forward to her class each week!

I love Dovetail Studios! For almost a year now I have been taking various fitness classes. The instructors are fantastic- always full of energy and some of the top performers in their field. I love how each class is structured the same, but with different content that works to tone and strengthen my body...most of the time without me even knowing it, as Im having a blast. Whats not to love about this place! Dovetail Studios offers a variety of classes, which are all, taught by both dance and fitness professionals. The three studios are huge therefore classes never feel overcrowded. As a retired dancer, I signed up for beginner ballet, after an auto accident. The instructor was extremely patient with me and allowed me to work at my own pace as I gained my strength back. My favorite thing is the community, the other students, the parents and the dance professionals. I always leave inspired.

I attend classes a few times a month and I absolutely love the environment and space. The teachers are great too. I specifically take Clayton and Shannas class on tuesdays and thursdays ! I would definitely recommend this studio.

Birthday PartyWe had a SuperHero/Ballet themed dance party for our 4 year old and a mixed group of boys and girls. The studio was very accomidating!Rachel- the teacher- was AMAZING and kept the kids enthralled. Her classroom managment was unparrelled. The class was smoother than a lot of dance classes where the teacher has been working with the students for multiple weeks!THINGS TO KNOW1. There were a few hiccups with the party offerings. We were supposed to have white plates, napkins, and bottled water for the kids supplied by the studio so we did not bring those things. However, they did not have them on hand and it was a bit of a hiccup to get them (never did get bottled water). If we had known this going in we could have just brought our own. But if that is the only thing that goes wrong on a kids birthday party count yourself lucky.2. Make sure you bring all essentials from the cake cutter to the candles to a lighter as they dont have these supplies on hand.3. Be prepared to manage things yourself -- this isnt a party factory where they pack up your gifts for you etc. They will help setup the space as you want it and clean up after but the vision is yours!Overall- they are eager to please and the class was great. We were very happy and the space is a great size for a party. Additionally, the waiting area for the parents was big and they moved a table so we could have a place for the coffee we brought for the parents.Would do it again in a hearbeat!
