Attending the introductory class is not a waste of time. Nick has a natural talent for speaking in front of the classroom. The class was interactive and enhanced with a slide presentation and white board. The presentation is not a heavy sales pitch. At the end of class you may get the opportunity to walk through the classes and lab area. If you dont have a camera, one is provided. Recommendations for camera purchases and where to buy are offered up if needed. CPC will be my base for learning photography and connecting with other enthusiasts and professionals.

I believe the presentation was balanced, brief, enough for a beginner and commercially non-biased in terms of the products that were used.It made the field attractive to me at least. I have no experience with the field with whoever.

This community of photographers offers a supportive network through which one can learn many aspects of photography, from technical to artistic. There are classes for complete beginners wanting to learn the basics in a methodical and organized manner to advanced photographers looking for ongoing critique and creative inspiration. The range of learning opportunities as well as the richness of the community is quite amazing.

With all the extra time I had last summer in quarantine I needed something new. After taking classes with these amazing teachers I have a new love and passion for the art of photography. They dont just teach how to look through the lens, they teach you everything from simple camera setting to complex camera setting to the high concepts. Then they dive into what to look for when framing a shot, how to adjust settings and mainly what data to look for after youve taking the picture so you can improve yourself the next time. They are critical without ever being mean and always (and I mean ALWAYS) available and helpful with any questions you might have. I cant speak more highly of this school and the classes. Thank you for helping me find my photographic artistic eye.

There is nothing like RS Chicago Photography Classes!! I have taken both in-person and online classes, and they are professionally run by knowledgeable instructors. Simultaneously, you are taught...photography skills and techniques, camera settings, composition, photo editing software, printing, photo storage, and best practice workflow. You start by building a strong foundation of photography and then can expound on it with technique classes that fit your interest. The school community is not one that is competitive, but is supportive and inspirational. There is always someone to turn to for help. It is comprised of individuals with their first camera just starting out, to true published artists, and every level in between. There is a welcoming environment for every student to develop their skills. The greatest gift is making friends that support you in doing something that you are passionate about. I highly recommend RS Chicago Photography Classes!!

Before Photo 1 I tried to teach myself photography, but this was so much better! The instructors were supportive and could add a depth of knowledge that is so valuable, and seeing other peoples photos helped me learn different creative ways to take a photograph. I feel more confident with my camera, and know how to create different perspectives and effects that enhance my photos immensely. I have even been inspired to share them much more on social media. I highly recommend taking this course!

Took the Introduction to Photography class. Best ten bucks ever spent.I no longer have to use Auto because my camera dial is the wheel of confusion. I am really excited to take Photo I and beyond. The instructor, Nick was awesome and patient. He made me feel like I could conquer my DSLR and take magical pictures in 90 minutes. A fun, interactive environment and learning experience overall.

In the last six months, Ive taken three classes with the school, all taught by Nick. Each class was informative and thoroughly enjoyable. The courses are well designed with comprehensive lectures and supporting materials; just the right amount of material each week to allow students to absorb and practice the skills taught. An excellent instructor, Nick excels at supporting each of his students in their growth as photographers.

I just wrapped up Photo I and I loved it. The instructors were very patient and informative. I cannot believe how much my photography has already improved. I had to adjust some days and they were able to accommodate my schedule. I took the free photo class first and knew this was the place for me. Ive already signed up for Photo II. Cannot wait to keep learning. :)

I did the intro class with Nick last week and would highly recommend! Easy for a beginner to follow along - and there was plenty of time/ encouragement for questions. He was very good at simplifying everything and gave us a good base of knowledge to grow from. The class was about 90 minutes and well worth it!

I have been a member of the RS Chicago Photo Class community for a couple of years now and have taken just about all the classes. The teaching is top notch (some amazing instructors), the focus is on the student and learning, the school provides multiple ways to get help when needed, whether it is directly related to a class or just a general question. The school has all the facilities, tools, equipment to cover most aspects of photography and as mentioned above some of the best instructors around. Since COVID the school starting delivering many classes online which makes it even easier to attend and learn. Highly recommend the school and best of all there is a free 90 minute introduction that gives you a good sense of what the school is all about.

I attended the Intro to Photography Class and it was really good. Nick, our instructor provided an excellent overview of the basics that we need to know about a DSLR camera and how to take good photos. As the classes are tailored with few people, he ensures that all of us understand the content and also patiently walks us through how to use a DSLR.

If your skills are basic or advanced, the workshop will provide you an opportunity to learn new ways to look at your set-up, composition, color pop, and a myriad of other aspects of images all while leaving you with enough freedom to experiment and try your own things. Group size was great and gave me time to explore the areas we shot on my own while getting great input from expert photographers that took my images from good to great and even to outstanding. Spending the day pushing my limits in a pressure-free environment that reinforces my good habits and gives me a few more things to consider that corrects my bad habits was a day very well spent. I highly recommend these workshops to everyone of all ability levels.

Classes at the school made me comfortable with my camera and got me to get over my fear of the technical side of photography. I loved that the weekly assignments encouraged creativity, but were also carefully structured to systematically teach key concepts and components from exposure to shutter speed and aperture to composition. I learned a lot, but never felt overwhelmed since the instructors were always so helpful and supportive. I also appreciated the collaborative environment, which helped me connect with my classmates outside of class. I highly recommend RS Chicago Photography Classes to anyone looking to develop or refresh their photography skills!

I just completed the Starve Rock Color Workshop this past weekend. The instructors were well prepared and had some great suggestions on composition and photography technicals. The colors were impressive and the timing of the workshop could not have been better. We had two instructors so there was a great student to teacher ratio. Also appreciated the tips, tricks and suggestions from both instructors.

I was given a gift card for the school by my girlfriend who had seen me struggle many times trying to make sense of all the settings on my DSLR camera and inevitably falling back to the safety of auto mode. I signed up for Photo 1 without much idea of what I would get out of it. I have now done Photo 1 and 2 and will sign up for a third course. I cant speak highly enough about how well structured, informative and enjoyable the classes are. The instructors will patiently guide you through your photography journey and spend a lot of time helping each student in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. I have done both courses online over Zoom due to the pandemic. The technology worked well so I dont think I lost anything doing the course online compared with in-person. I can now use my DSLR camera in the manual modes with confidence!

The free intro to Photography class was so fun! First things first, because the times call for this, it was very COVID safe, seats were spaced out, everyone wore their mask, and attendance was limited. The instructor, Nick, was so friendly and warm, and knew so much about each persons individual camera-- it was very helpful to learn some basics, and feel comfortable leaving the class having a decent understanding of how to turn off auto mode and try actually using your skills to snap a quality photo.I would say this is a great beginner course, but suggest you keep going to get the full value!I also loved how there was a little notepad and pen at every seat so that you can take your own notes, but that the slides from the course were provided afterwards.I cannot wait for the opportunity to take more in-person classes, but in the mean time online courses can help keep this business alive, so register!!!

Not really knowing anything about photography before I started at the school, I have learned so much over the past 6 months. The instructors are very knowledgeable and make learning easy and fun. . Additionally, the 90 minute free class is very informative and there is no attempt to up-sell you into a class if you do not want to continue your education. You do not even need a camera for the free class as the instructors will let you borrow one during class to learn on. Anyone who has had an interest in photography, I would highly recommend checking out the classes

It is a great tase before you decide whether or not to take on a full course. They will let you borrow a camera if you dont have one, and will provide unbiased guidance in how to purchase one. However, I recommend bringing your own camera if you have one--cameras differ a little, so you will learn more applicable skills if you work with your own!

I started with the free introductory class. It was incredibly informative and probably very rewarding class for someone looking for a future in photography. However; the instruction and classroom environment was a bit more harsh and gruff than what I would hope for from a 101 class where I literally need instructions on how to upload some of my photos. Glad that they offered the free class so now I know.

If you want to learn true, hands-on, learning while doing photography, you will find no better venue than Richard Strombergs classes. I started learning about photography and darkroom techniques when I was 12 so I came to Richards classes with a fairly decent knowledge base. What I learned from him took me to new heights not only with respect to technical knowledge, but more importantly how to APPLY that knowledge to creating better images starting in the camera and stepping outside my comfort zone with respect to what and how I shoot. Sure, in this digital age there are all sorts of manipulations you can now do with an image once its taken, but Richard teaches you how to get it right the first time.I have returned to Richard time and time again as my go to person for all things photography. He truly is passionate about what he does and the learning process and his methods and teaching style reflect that. The growth and development of his students is why he does what he does.

If you want to learn about photography, TAKE CLASSES HERE.When I took my first class at Richard Stromberg’s Chicago Photography Classes, I didn’t know the first thing about how to hold a camera, let alone how to use one. I was never once made to feel intimidated. At RSCPC I was given the encouragement and the support that I needed to persevere. It didn’t take too long to realize that I was actually capable of learning and understanding the concepts behind the craft. At the same time I discovered and began to develop my (previously unbeknownst to me) artistic center. The classes at RSCPC are structured by professionals who know what you need to learn to become a real photographer. They know which concepts you need to learn, and the order in which you need to learn them in. The homework was always consistent with the lesson being taught.I have taken Photo 1, 2, 3, Show Class, Detachable Flash and Lighting and Portraiture. Each and every one of my teachers at RSCPC were outstanding in their knowledge, art, and support.I have since participated with numerous other photography groups who routinely go out and shoot together. I have had and continue to have a lot of fun with photography. I continue to learn by watching and participating with others. They have also made me realize how beneficial it was for me to have taken photography classes first. The knowledge that I’ve gained by studying photography at RSCPC has helped me to understand how the camera and the art all come together. I strongly believe that you should TAKE THE CLASSES HERE FIRST. The material that you will learn in the basic photography classes art RSC will become the solid foundation from which you can grow your interest in photography.
