My daughter is in her third year at NAM. We are very happy here. Shes in first grade now. Classes are split up by 3-year age groups. 3-6 is for pre-k first year, pre-k second year (or just older kids), and K, 6-9 is first through third graders, 9-12 is for fourth through sixth graders. I really like that the kids get to be around kids of varying ages. Its much less rigid than your typical rows of desks schools. Kids get to move. Sit on the floor. Sit at tables. They just started doing garden classes for the kids.During certain times of day, they can pick their own works, activities to do which practice a particular skill. In the younger class, my daughter was doing things like pouring work, to practice pouring water, sorting works, spoon / coordination works, etc. Super useful stuff for little kids. The kids have to clean up after their works each time. A lot of the 3-6 class is focused on building routines, expectations, a culture of respect (why do we clean up?), and a small measure of independence, which they will expand later during the course of their studies at NAM. In addition, of course, to the more practical stuff, they teach reading, math and counting, science, etc - all of the expected academic subjects. Just FYI, this school teaches cursive.Ive been very happy here. The teachers weve had have been so nice to me and helpful when I ask for advice about my daughter. Its a great school. My daughter loves it.
