Cliff and Steve are great instructors and taught me things in 3,000 hours as a private pilot I did not know. It takes time and gliding is not like coasting down a hill in a wagon... the days when the weather was a problem I learned valuable things hanging around just talking gliders. Its great fun and Im looking forward to getting advanced training riding thermals, ridges and waves.

Returned for a glider ride after many years. Not sure what has happened to this place, but the planes are in such shoddy condition, that I didnt go for a flight this time. 10 years ago, the planes were sparkling clean, and now it looks like they havent even been washed in several years with dents all over them. If they do not even clean their planes, it made me wonder if they are even maintaining the planes flight controls. Very rude service in the office from some skater punk kid wearing all black with the name Thrasher written across his shirt (claimed he was the airplane tow-pilot), acted as if he was bothered by having us as a customer. Thrasher did not instill any confidence in us, so we cancelled our flights.

To rearrange the words of a well-known cliché, Times having fun when youre flying! This was one of the most exciting adventures Ive had. It was a gift from my wife and kids for my birthday and I had long anticipated taking the flights. Jesse, my flight instructor, took me up in a Grob twin 103, a German-designed glider that is produced in the Czech Republic. It was an older model, but was an excellent aircraft. We were taken aloft by the tow plane up to three thousand feet. We had hoped to get to five thousand, but the thick cloud base was at three so we couldnt get any higher. However, that didnt matter. After release from the tow plane, Jesse showed me various flight maneuvers and the differences between flying a powered aircraft, like a Cessna 172 (which was the last aircraft I had flown) and a glider. Jesses a very knowledgeable pilot and an exceptional instructor. The gliding sensation is one of utter calm, quiet, and gentle motions, with occasional gusts of wind that let you know you were in a very different three dimensional world. Unlike what the pilot wrote in High Flight, I felt no need to reach out and touch the face of anything; it was just a thrill to be up there where birds frolicked around in the currents, and to share the expansive sky with the clouds. The view at all times was magnificent. I have always known that this was my element; I just dont get up into it often enough. Jesse had me fly over a plowed field to see if we could pick up a thermal, but due to the thick clouds; heat from the sun hadnt baked the ground enough to warm it up, so any thermal was negligible. We did a couple of wing stands and swoops, along with a mild stall, and soon we were heading back toward the airport. The landing was very smooth and slow, whereas landing a Cessna requires more speed and is bumpier. Within a few minutes, Jesse had the glider reattached to the tow plane and we went up for the second flight of the morning. It was just as thrilling as the first, and this time, he let me do considerably more of the flying. If you havent tried a glider flight, dont put it off. This is far more exhilarating than a zip line or a Ferris wheel. I hope to do it again soon. I cant thank Jesse enough, as well as the tow plane pilot, for a thoroughly enjoyable morning, dancing under the sun and clouds. The flight put me in a very poetic mood so I hope the reader can draw from my description what a splendid time youll have when you do it too. It was a five star flight!

Great flying destination, if you are a sailplane pilot. Good soaring conditions, friendly, family-run private field. Camping/RV hookups are available on the field. (30-amp electric and water, no cable, no dump site.) The only thing keeping them from a 5-star rating is that their rental gliders look a little rough. They are older sailplanes, used as trainers, and are showing their age. This would be an excellent vacation destination for the sailplane pilot. Not only for flying, but the field is located about a half-hour drive from Disney World, and about 20 minutes from Fantasy of Flight aviation museum.

Caveat emptorDespite a personal visit to this place in January of this year they were unprepared for my scheduled glider add-on when I came back in April.I was in FL this January on business, from NY, so I decided to check them out as a possible site for my glider add-on. I spend a few hours there looking at the training gliders and speaking with the instructors. On the surface they looked competent so I made plans with them to return in April and complete the add-on training; I filled out all the paperwork, reviewed my Private Pilot history with the instructor, bought a glider logbook and in general set thing up for my return in April. When I got back there in April it was as if I didnt exist, my instructor was not there, they had not made any arrangements with the FAA Examiner and were singularly unable to correct the situation. So I had taken vacation from work, flew down from NYC, got a hotel and rental car and there was no add-on to be had!To top it off a friend of mine came with me to get checked out in their Grob and found half the instruments not functioning and the glider in a permanent starboard bank because of an unusually heavy starboard wing.Maybe they should stop running this as a family business and start running it as a business, as far as I was concerned they lost what could have been $2,500 in revenue.Ive managed to accumulate nearly 500 hours of single-engine time by putting safety first in my decision process; Im making plans to work with a school elsewhere for that add-on.

Wow! what a cool place! If you like airplanes, or getting out in the country, this place is located close to Disney (In the shadow of the mouse) and offers sailplane rides, instruction, and rentals.Across the field (grass runway) you can go for a ride in a biplane (PT-17 stearman) or an AT-6 advanced WWII trainer. and they are located outside of Orlando class B airspace. Call ahead though because they are allmost allways booked!!

We were not put off by the devastating 1-star report, and can only report absolutely positive: the flight for our self-sailing daughter has worked out perfectly from the organization, and the implementation. The environment is very attractive, the staff was very, very friendly. The aircraft are in perfect condition, the calculated price for a motor towing over 4,000 feet appropriate. Clear recommendation for a nice trip and an extraordinary holiday experience.
