Julia Brown Montessori is a great school! Our first child started there thirteen years ago and our youngest children are currently attending. The staff and teachers are excellent. There is such a warm and welcoming environment at the school that makes you feel comfortable sending your children everyday. The Montessori method has been very effective in providing a strong educational foundation, promoting independence and instilling confidence in our older child who is now an honor student at a top high school in the area. Our kids love this school!

I have been apart of the Julia brown family for about 10 years. I sent my first child there around 2011 and he stayed until 1st grade. He did excellent and when he moved to public school he also exceeded there. My daughter is currently a student there in the first grade. She loves the community at Julia brown and doesn’t look forward to having to move to another school in the future. I appreciate that although we have been in a pandemic, Julia brown has worked hard to not have her fall behind.

JBS - Silver Spring was a great (first) educational experience for my son. We were immediately impressed with the calm and welcoming environment and appreciated the kindness and patience of his directress. She communicated regularly and was very nurturing. Ms. Williams also supported my concerns as a mom being away from her baby and always eased my mind with my regular phone calls to check in when he first began the program. We thoroughly believe in building a solid foundation and facilitating a love of learning from an early age and couldn’t be more thankful to JBS for doing just that while also encouraging independence and self-motivation. As we continue to look for the same quality program since moving out of Maryland, we are reminded how truly special JBS is and miss it dearly!

Our daughter has attended JBS for nearly 3 years, and we love the school. The Montessori approach is perfect for encouraging kids to learn at their own pace. She has developed a true love of learning and is writing stories and reading chapter books at age 5. We especially love how calm the classroom environment is, even for the younger ages. The teachers and the director of the school, Ms. Williams, are very knowledgeable about child development, and they make themselves accessible to parents. Highly recommended!

Our family has been a part of the Julia Brown family since 2016. Our first daughter entered into the toddler class in Silver Spring in the Fall of 2016. Now she is a vibrant Kindergartner who has been nurtured, encouraged, and challenged to think independently, inclusively, and with compassion to other humans who walk this earth. Our 2nd daughter has now been at JBS for almost 2 years. Her growth and learning has been so heartwarming, especially because they are two different personalities with two different approaches to learning. The Montessori approach and the caring and long-term lead teachers at the school has been critical to their excelling. They are two compassionate, caring, and curious creatures who get to explore all of those questions and curiosities in school. The school is extremely diverse both in faculty and students and I have build bonds with other JBS parents. Our family has felt supported and now we will be sending our third child there in the Fall of 2021. We are a true JBS family!

Our sons have attended Julia Brown the Silver Spring location since they were 18 months old. They are currently in 1st grade and Pre-Kindergarten and have continued to thrive each year. The staff led by Ms. Williams shows every day that they are truly invested in the education and wellbeing of our sons. Daily our sons come home eager to share the wealth of knowledge that they have learned. Julia Brown Montessori school has set a strong foundation in our sons’ education as well as the life lessons they continue to learn there.Joining the JBMS community was one of the best decisions we have ever made. We truly feel our sons are safe in their hands.

This is my daughters first year in school and the staff at JBS-SS have made it the best experience ever. We absolutely love how respected students are at such a young age and the impact of the pedagogy on the development of our child. This is the best option for our daughter who loves learning about subject matter from any content area and is not afraid of anything placed before her. JBS is not a one size fits all approach and I appreciate that more than words can explain. My daughter loves her school. Not a day goes by that she fails to share with her dad and I. Thank you, JBS for all that you do to facilitate an amazing learning environment and culture for children.

My husband and I were not familiar with the Montessori method when we moved to MD, but we knew we wanted our then-preschool-aged son to learn while he was in a caregiving program. We interviewed several chaotic, loud schools until we found the Julia Brown School in Silver Spring, which uses the Montessori method, and we instantly knew it was the right fit for us.The classrooms are quiet and structured and the teachers are warm and attentive. The children are provided the independence to choose their own work and go at their own pace, and younger kids are mentored by older students--which is particularly helpful for the youngest of the kids, who may be anxious about being away from their parents for the first time. Our son started attending the Julia Brown School at the age of 3, enrolling in the pre-kindergarten class, and he is currently in third grade, which is the highest grade before children graduate from the school. Our daughter also started at the school at age 3, and she is loving kindergarten this year via distance learning. During their time at Julia Brown, I have found that not only are my children flourishing academically, but they also have learned practical life skills. My son could read by first grade because students are taught phonics very early, and he also learned how to set the table, fold a napkin, and pour from one cup to another in kindergarten.I’ve been thrilled with my son’s experience and have high expectations for the coming years my daughter will spend at the school. I highly recommend Julia Brown, which has changed all our lives.

Our family has been attending Julia Brown Montessori Silver Spring since 2016.When the school closed due to COVID19 they quickly implemented online learning which was great to give our youngest a sense of normalcy and he loved seeing his teachers again. Since reopening in August with COVID19, there are extra precautions as well as online-only learning options available for classmates who are learning at home.We interviewed other Montessori schools in this area and here are the reasons we choose Julia Brown Silver Spring. Many Montessori schools have limited hours, frequent closures, and are inside other facilities (such as inside churches), so facility-wise I really like that Julia Brown school is a stand-alone building and multiple playgrounds just for them.I appreciate that Julia Brown Montessori has an all-day schedule; other schools I toured seem to only offer a full day as an “à la carte to add morning or afternoon hours, or any activities if you need more than just a short window of morning care. Also, unlike the other Montessori schools we looked at which had many days/weeks they were closed, Julia Brown Montessori is open year-round and only closed a few weeks and major holidays per year.I really like that they have teacher conferences and report cards twice a year. I really like that the school has a long track record, and when Julia Brown herself got training, she was taught by instructors who learned directly from Maria Montessori. I like the monthly Newsletters with a topic written by Julia Brown, staff & curriculum spotlights, and upcoming school events. And I love how the weekly summer newsletter is written by the Primary students.

Julia Brown Montessori has been the best investment for both our childrens’ education! We sent our first born son Carter to Julia Brown at 3 years old in 2015 for 2 years and summer camp. It was truly amazing and life changing at how he was nurtured, well mannered and immersed into the Montessori curriculum. All of his teachers really prepared him for the path of excellence he is exhibiting today in 3rd grade. The school was run by an exceptional Directress Ms. Williams who took care of our child like her own. We were so amazed at how the school composed of a United Nations with a worldly staff and students. We couldn’t wait to send our 2nd son Dylan who is currently in the Primary class 2020-2021. We are thrilled that many of the same staff members are still there. We love this school. Especially during Covid, the school has been over protective and cautious in keeping everyone safe with their protocols. Both children love going to the Julia Brown Silver Spring school. They bring home so many tools from their classroom and even teach us at home about Sign Language, Stem activities and even their love of reading. We are thrilled to be part of this education and to know the kids are truly in great hands. We will be so sad when Dylan has to graduate. He talks about his teachers and friends all the time. It’s a little family.

Moving to this school has been the best decision for our family! I was a little bit worried at first when I read reviews online but Im so glad I didnt let that stop me from making the move! The Montessori way is awesome! Both of my children (2 and 3 years old) have learned how to focus on tasks, be disciplined and work independently. The progress my children have made in just 3 months has been tangible and something that my husband and I both marvel at.The teachers and staff have been warm, caring and very understanding! I feel and see it in the daily interaction but also on an organizational level. When my daughter was in the hospital, Mrs. Julia Brown, along with her other staff called me just to check in!

Three years ago, our daughter was a brand new student at JBS in the toddlers room just beginning to blossom into the full little person that she is today. As we were starting at JBS, I was at my wits end with early childhood education. I was wondering if we would ever find a school that we trusted and felt like the right fit. But as a Montessori kid myself, the unassuming order, brightness, and relaxed quiet felt right.Quickly, our daughter was more relaxed at school, started making friends, and began to surprise us with things we had not taught her. However, it was over time, that we came to really feel the extension of our family through the staff and teachers. We felt loved because we could tell that she was loved during the day. The care that our daughter has experienced these last three years literally changed our family for the better. To all of her teachers: Thank you for loving our daughter, for taking care of her, and for preparing her for her next phase of life and school. Thank you for being our partners in her preschool years.

My family LOVES Julia Bowen School. Our two year old son Lorenzo is so happy there! The teachers are a good balance of loving but still disciplining if needed. Enzo comes home singing various songs everyday that I didnt even know he knew the words too. In addition to singing he will also use sign language for the words. He started singing baa baa black sheep the other day when I was changing him.

My son is wrapping up his third year at the Silver Spring location and absolutely loves this school. It will be very sad to leave in the Fall for Kindergarten. The director Mrs. Williams is absolutely fantastic. She knows every kids name and makes it a point to get to know them and help them. The teachers and staff are great. My son really loves all of the staff there and hasn’t ever said a negative thing. Early on when my son was new to the school and scared he would cry as I left but the teachers and staff were great making sure they helped him feel comfortable and took the time to call me while at work to ensure he was doing fine. My son has learned so much - discipline, folding clothes, Spanish songs / words, putting on his own shoes and coat , sign language and the list of practical life skills goes on and on.

Weve had only positive experiences at the Silver Spring location. Im a parent so I cannot speak for how they treat their own staff, however they do not seem understaffed to me. The administration is wonderful, the facilities are adequate, and our son loves it. In my sons class, whenever I have looked in, there have always been at least two facilitators, if not three, and there are only 15 students in the class.

I just wanted to take the time to say that my 4 year old daughter has been enrolled here for the 2014-2015 school year and we have really enjoyed it. The teachers are all very kind and gentle and Ms. Williams is the sweetest person ever! I can call at any time just to check on my daughters day or with questions about anything-she doesnt make me feel like I am disrupting her, she always takes a second to give you her full attention WITH A SMILE!This is a great school, very clean and organized and I was very happy to have found them. We are moving due to job relocation but I wanted to encourage other families to experience this school, I thought it was pretty great. Mrs. Wakeman is an awesome teacher, very friendly and bubbly and the kids love her. I can tell how my daughter feels about all of the teachers because she considers each of them a best friend :)

This school is very horrible. They didnt update the kid status unless you asked. My kids didnt eat her lunch for the weeks but nobody didnt say anything. I finally find out from friends about their food policy. If you get your kids lunch box empty, dont assume she ate it but they thought out. She always comes hungry and doesnt want to go back to school the next day.If you have the plan to join this school, make sure you have to call them every other day.

I will start out by saying this is continued rating stemming from the Laurel location. And also that Ms. Williams and the daycare lady (from now on referred to as Ms. Su) were great with us and none of this applies to them. We started the enrollment process two weeks ago from today (4/3/17), turned in the application and required paperwork early and we had our daughters uniforms ready. We brought her in today, she was accepted in, and they knew who she was. She was super excited and looked so cute in her school wear. I get a call around 8:40a from Ms. Williams letting me know that there was a mistake, my daughter was denied enrollment for unknown reasons by Mrs. Komesarook (the owner) and that I needed to pick her up as soon as possible. According to what Ms. Williams said, Mra. Komesarook said she mailed us a letter of denial. So, why was my daughter accepted in? Why didnt anyone try contacting us further? Who is going pay for the uniforms we already paid for but can no longer use? How or why did Ms. Su know my daughters name? This was ridiculous and unacceptable. I am thoroughly disappointed and repulsed by how all of this was handled. There was no need to waste my time or to mishandle my daughters emotions about starting school for the first time like that. I am in no way going to recommend this school (my apologies to Ms. Williams and Ms. Su who, again, were great) to anyone. I will continue to share my experience on any platform that allows it. I will make all the reports needed and write any letters necessary. I couldnt be anymore disappointed.
