I truly enjoy every class. I learn so much that I never thought would be possible. As my whole childhood life I wished to study the martial arts. I feel complete joy after class and would recommend to anyone who is looking for truly authentic teachings of the art to come and try it out. Thanks...

Ive wanted to study Tai chi for a long time but didnt want just the martial arts aspect. I was looking for something more complete: exercise, meditation, health benefits from a total mind-body experience. I found it at the Columbia Tai chi Center in a supportive, caring environment.

This is an authentic martial arts and Tai Chi school led by Sifu Adams who is passionate about the philosophies of these arts and is quality-oriented. Both of my children (11 and 6) who have been taking Kung-Fu classes for two years, are very different from each other yet enjoy their classes in their own ways. This is because instruction is individualized to each child in a supportive, positive environment. The instructors genuinely care about the well-being and growth of the child. My husband and I have been happy to see our children grow in their strength, confidence, and martial arts skills. We are grateful that we found a place where our children can learn not just physical skills but life skills that are centered around values-principles. We hope that they will continue to take classes here for years to come.

This is a great little school. For someone who really wants to thoroughly learn Tai Chi or Kung Fu. (Tai Chi is Old Yang version, NOT Simplified.) Instructor VERY good, curriculum is well thought out, connected to a documented lineage, shares his knowledge and encourages doing your own research - not just take his word for it. Community is warm & welcoming. Handful of special events each year. There are also classes for kids. Check out the website and come join us!

Great Martial Art School. You can learn 4 martial arts here that all integrate together. Sifu Adams is friendly and encouraging, not a drill sergeant like you might find some places. He does not teach BS martial arts. We learn forms and application, do strengthening and conditioning, and spar to put out skills into practice. It’s a happy, friendly supportive place rather than a testosterone fueled hyper competitive vibe.

We love having our daughter train here. She is learning authentic Kung Fu while also gaining skills that will benefit her into adulthood. She is more focused, flexible, and physically stronger since she began attending. All of the staff are wonderful with the kids!

My daughters have been studying Kung Fu with Sifu Adams for 2 years now and it has been an outstanding experience for both of them. My 10 year old bounces out of class with a huge grin on her face. My 13 year old leaves each class with quiet satisfaction. We look forward to many more years of learning here!

I went to this place looking for some self defense skills and a workout. What I found was that...and more. Tradition, fun, solid martial arts lineage, great people, and a focus on self awareness while doing your personal best. I love it here!

Im very glad that I found this place so nearby to me. An opportunity to explore an art form while improving physical and mental health is exactly what I need. Each day I look forward to my next class, and I am excited to learn new material and improve myself. I would for sure recommend for anyone, even if you are just remotely interested to do the free trial to try it out. They truly care about making sure you are comfortable, and that you actually learn and improve.

My time at the Columbia Tai Chi and Kung Fu Center has been great and rewarding. A cyclic and steady teaching structure directed by an honest and knowledgeable teacher allows for a realistic development of skill at martial arts. Plus, its fun as hell.

I have been at Columbia Tai Chi Center for almost two years now and am extremely happy to be here. I was surprised to find it so different from my expectations. I was delighted to find so knowledgeable a teacher as Wesley Adams in Columbia. This is not a quick path to self-defense but a deep understanding of the art that is the foundation for the martial training if you choose to pursue it. The classes integrate meditation, exercise and the Tai Chi form in a pleasant low key environment. Everyone moves at their own pace and adjustments are made for physical problems. An excellent school.

My son has been attending the kids Kung Fu classes for around 6 months and absolutely loves them. He really has become a calmer more confident kid both at home and at school. Within the first month Kung Fu became his favorite activity, and so far has shown no signs of that changing. Instead of me encouraging him to practice, he comes to me insisting that I watch what he learned in his last class. We could not be more pleased.

This is a gwan, not a typical gym-experience; it is a pleasant community in which to gather & practice martial arts. Led by a skilled educator, class sizes are small & the price is worth the payoff: after just 4 months I was Very Impressed w/ my new-found, noticeable muscle strength! I thought I just wanted another aerobics class, but Im glad instead I now I have a new passion.

I always wanted to learn Kungfu and I am so glad to have found the right place. My daughter and I started at the sametime, and the growth we have had in the last 1 year has been truly amazing. One of the best things I have done in my life. The school and Sifu and the instructional structure is impressive and I love every aspect of it.

Since beginning six months ago, Ive been pleased with the style and content of instruction. Thorough, clear explanations and demonstrations of technique. Students are not rushed through preliminaries. Emphasis on developing a sound foundation in the fundamentals. The instructor maintains a comfortable learning environment. Im always eager to attend the next session. Effective learning without pressure. Now that I have been studying here for just over four years, an updated assessment:I began my study of Tai Chi at the Columbia Tai Chi Center as a complete newcomer. With no prior martial arts training or knowledge. Not even Zen meditation. From the very first day I experienced only encouragement and professionalism from the teacher and other members of the school. The teaching has been thorough, but at the same time the school maintains a very friendly and comfortable atmosphere.Im the kind of person whos always asking silly questions. Still the teacher and others have listened carefully and have responded both verbally and with demonstrations until I felt comfortable. Before long, I could hardly wait for my next class.I still feel that way now, having just finished my fourth year at the Columbia Tai Chi Center. I feel honored recently to have been assigned to assist newcomers trying to learn new skills. But I still feel I have much more to learn about Tai Chi. I love the challenge, and hope to go on for another 30 years! Thank You, the Columbia Tai Chi Center!

When looking for a martial arts school, I wanted to find a place that did not simply teach you motions, but gave a deep understanding behind the motions based on overall health, wellness, and philosophy. At the Columbia Tai Chi and Kung Fu Center, a gwan with traditional lineage, I found exactly what I was looking for. Sifu Adams is very knowledgeable in the arts of Tai Chi and Kung Fu and is an incredible inductor for all skill levels. I highly suggest this school for anyone wanting to become a more balanced, healthy, and happy person.

My review from a year ago:Whether or not youre new to these arts, if you show up and try your best then you will be given the chance to grow._______________________________________Update:My initial impression of this school remains the same. It is a truly terrific school for kids and adults made up of some wonderfully kind and hardworking people. This school offers a rare lineage and culture as well as a network of talent and opportunities to always improve. I am now just a couple of years into my training here and I am more excited than ever to continue improving my overall skill in these arts. Our focus on the fundamentals in both the tai chi and kung fu programs has greatly improved my flexibility, mobility, and sensitivity in addition to my strength and stamina. And I am constantly making improvements to my striking and grappling game. But those are just some of the physical benefits of showing up and working hard here -- I have also grown into a much more patient and open-minded student as well as a leader, and I have seen others do the same.Whether youre looking to add to your skills as a martial artist/athlete or youre looking to start something new and improve your overall health, this school is definitely worth a try!

I have studied at the Columbia Tai Chi Center since February 2011. I wasnt sure what I was looking for when I stumbled upon an ad in The Free Times. I have been pleasantly surprised by the positive effect it has had on my life. I have a stressful job/life and a small child at home, and the principles I have learned in Tai Chi have helped me handle my stress in a more positive, effective way. I also have been healthier - with said child at home, ie., germ machine, I have been sick one since February of last year. There is something to be said for the flow of Chi and how your body reflects your outlook, and vice versa! Tai Chi will also help tone your lower body and give you a workout you never knew was possible by doing such slow, structured movements. Even if you dont know what youre looking for, Tai Chi may be for you. There is definitely no pressure at the Gwan - learn at your own pace, within the schedule that suits you. Thanks, Sifu Adams, for bringing such a positive spirit to the study of this ancient Martial Art!
