The idea of scholars rather than kids or students sets a unique tone. It is amazing to hear the scholars talk about school when they think you are not listening. They are nurtured and challenged to grow intellectually, personally, and spiritually every day.

My children come home each day with something new they have learned and are excited about it. They are advanced in multiple educational fields, thanks to SJES. The instruction at the School is personal, one on one often times one-on-one, and of the highest quality. The teachers are the most experienced in the city and flood to the school for the environment and community at St James.

All three of my children (10, 8 and 2) attend SJES...and they love it. The curriculum promotes thinking beyond understanding numbers and words...it pushes them to understand the why behind what they are learning and how it might be applied to improve our world.

St. James is a wonder place for our girls. The entire experience with the school has been positive since we first enrolled our first and sixth grader in the 2 year old class. St. James uses Depth and Complexity as a teaching method, which is a gifted and talented program, for the entire school. This has allowed graduates from St. James to move on to different high schools in the Coastal Bend and rise to the top of their classes. While the education is second to none, it is only one component in what turns out great young adults from St. James. The spiritual formation component of the education at St. James teaches students to do the right thing because it is the right thing to do while fostering critical thinking and the asking and discussion of the hard questions. This gets intertwined in them as the grow from toddlers up to graduation from 8th grade. This is reinforced by a strong, diverse, and inclusive athletic program which fosters the overall ideals of being a great person into each and every child. It is hard for even those who go to St. James to describe the feeling of inclusiveness and family that comes from being part of the St. James community. The small class sizes and top notch teaching and administrative staff always put the child first and allow them to grow and learn to their fullest potential without having to contend with bullying, an overburden of testing, or a curriculum that is designed just to get them by to the next grade. This is a place that is completely designed about the ultimate success of the scholar as a whole. To see online, just search #whysaintjames to see it is such a wonderful place. If you are thinking about what is the best place for your child to be, I encourage you to not only look at St. James but look at all of the other options that are out there. and know that your child will end up like their peers, a product of their school environment and habits that it instills. When you do, I feel the best thing that you can do is to walk down the hall and interact with the 7th and 8th grade class. This is what your child will end up like at the end of their middle school experience. Do they look you in the eye? Are they polite and well spoken? Are they young leaders or young punks in the making? If you dont consider these things, and look at the final product, you are not really evaluating the school. When selecting where to send our first daughter to school, this is what we were advised to take under consideration. When we judged based off of this criteria, there was no comparison, and we knew that the examples of young men and women that we were looking at were exactly what we wanted our daughter to turn out like. When we see our 6th grader and her younger sister both flourishing in this environment and can see what path they are on for the next few years, we could not be happier.St. James is the best educational, spiritual, and character development decision we could have made for our kids.
